HD 79498 is a star located approximately 160 light years away in the constellation Cancer. It has a right ascension of 09h 15m 09s and a declination of 23°22'32".[1] This G5 spectral class star has an apparent magnitude of 8.03 and an absolute magnitude that has not yet been measured. The McDonald Observatory planet search program has detected an extrasolar planet around HD 79498 using small changes in the star's motion. The team named the planet HD 79498b after its parent star.[2]
