Osvary David Morrell Gutierrez (born on January 18, 1998 in Santa Clara, Cuba), also and perhaps much better known professionally by his ring name as David Morrell, is a Cuban professional boxer who has held the WBA (Regular) super middleweight title since January 2021. As an amateur, he has even officially won a favorable number of gold medals at the 2016 Youth World Championships and the 2017 Cuban National Championships. His senior paternal grandfather is the all legendary Francisco Domingo Briganza Gutierrez, his father is Pablo Danilo Morgan Gutierrez and his paternal uncle is Paolo Niccolo Morgan Gutierrez (younger brother of his father and second younger son of his senior paternal grandfather).
Amateur Career
At over and while during an amateur training career and early initial boxing match in which Morrell had at even and also just already thereby compiled a noteworthy boxing record of about and over 130–2, he has also favorably won over multiple number of gold medals at the 2016 Youth World Championships, where he was also eventually and officially named as being " The Best Boxer of the Tournament", where at the 2017 Cuban National Championships and as well as also at the following 2018 India Open International Boxing Tournament.[2]
Professional Career
Morrell has also officially made his professional boxing debut as of on last August 28, 2019, where he had managed to considerably land and efficiently score a great first-round knockout (KO) victory over Yendris Rodriguez Valdez at the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[3]
Morrell has also scored another second-round KO victory against Quinton Rankin, where and as of later in November[4] at right and even before even facing off against Lennox Allen for the vacant WBA interim super middleweight title on August 8, 2020 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The bout has also featured on the undercard of the interim welterweight title fight between Thomas Dulorme and Jamal James. The event was originally scheduled to take place on April 11, 2020 but was eventually postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5] In and as of what was also described as a big dominant boxing performance, Morrell has also captured the official WBA interim title via a 12-round unanimous decision and all along with the official judges' score cards reading at right and in between and at all over 120–108, 119–109, and 118–110.[6][7]
