"Secret Love Song"
Song

"Secret Love Song" is a song by British girl group Little Mix, featuring American singer, song-writer Jason Derulo. It will be released in the UK and Ireland as the third single from their third studio album Get Weird. It was written by Jez Ashurst, Emma Rohan, Rachel Furner and Jason Derulo.

Background and Release

On the 5 December 2015 the girl group announced via Twitter that "Secret Love Song" would be their third UK and Ireland single, featuring Jason Derulo.[1] The band performed the song together with the American singer on Capital FM's first night of the Jingle Bell Ball 2015.

As Get Weird was released, the song could be found in the iTunes Charts around the world despite not having been announced a single at that point.

The band and Derulo met after Little Mix covered a mashup of his single "Want to Want Me" and Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge as their third Live Lounge cover. The Shazam Top 20 Studios presented Derulo with a small bit of the cover as he visited for a radio interview. He thought it was "awesome" and looked up some more of the band's work before contacting them – they then sent him the song and he "put his own twist to it".[2]

Composition

Secret Love song is a pop song that runs for a total length of four minutes and ten seconds.

Speaking about a different version of "Secret Love Song" without Jason Derulo, band member Jade Thirlwall said on Twitter that she and the other band members pictured the song to be about a LGBT couple, but after Jason heard the song he added his own point of view to the story, explaining that he was seeing a girl in a committed relationship and could therefore not express how he felt about her.[3]

On 9 December 2015 Stomp Models put out a public casting, asking for a gay/lesbian couple as well as a straight and a biracial couple along with a Jason Derulo double for the music video for the single,[4][5] implying that Thirlwall had kept her word about wanting the music video to feature an LGBT couple.

The song is the fourth song on Get Weird and like previous singles "DNA" and "Little Me" an alternative version of the song features on the deluxe edition of the album, but instead of being an unplugged version of the song, "Secret Love Song, Pt. II" has different lyrics and doesn't feature Derulo.

Live performances

There has only been one performance of the song together by Little Mix and Jason Derulo. Both acts were performing at Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball on its first night and as a surprise Little Mix brought Derulo onto the stage.
