Yeshiva World News also known by its acronym YWN is an Orthodox Jewish online news publication.[1][2] It also has multiple services catering to Jews all over the world. That includes: Community Calendar - a detailed calendar of events in Jewish communities. Phone Numbers - emergency and non-emergency service phone numbers in all areas. Simcha Listing - a listing of happy occasions. Nichum Availem - a list of the bereaved supplied by Misaskim.
They also have a full gamut of Photo Albums with the latest pictures of current events and Jewish news highlights. Also features a forum tread where current events are discussed called The Coffee Room.
An added option is the YWNRadio where you can get live Jewish music streaming 24 hours a day. Another recent addition is an option of receiving breaking news via email or SMS using services such as Twitter and Upoc.
Yeshiva World News was originally just a simple news blog that has grown into a news source with multiple reporters and photographers around the world. It soon became famous for its accuracy and detailed news info especially regarding ultra-orthodox incidents and Israeli news stories and is often quoted in the mainstream media and prestigious newspapers such as the New York Times, Google also frequently lists them in their news search. Many important and influential organizations such as Agudath Israel, elected officials and Police Departments use YWN to get vital information and warnings out to the orthodox-jewish community who generally discourage the use of secular media.
There has been some controversy regarding the fact that YWN will not post any stories which portray Orthodox Judaism in a bad light. For example, they omitted most reports on the child abuse scandals in Orthodox Yeshivos, as well as the scandal with Leib Tropper and EJF in 2009.
