The T-Mobile Pulse (Huawei U8220) is an Android-powered phone manufactured by Huawei[4] and rebranded by T-Mobile. It is available in many markets including the UK, The Netherlands [Insert more]. Compared to many Android phones released at the time it was relatively low cost - originally selling for £185 in the UK; at times dropping to £91 according to various offers.

Software

The Pulse was released with Android 1.5 with some customisations to the user interface. It comes with its own Home screen, as well as verious applications including Documents To Go and RoadSync from DataViz[5]

Software updates

As of January 2010, T-Mobile has provided some firmware releases for the Pulse [6]:

  • November 2009 Open Source Code released
  • November 2009 Pulse firmware download
  • December 2009 Increased stability; Improved audio

Android Updates

An update to Android has not been announced, however, a Dutch forum has announced that T-Mobile intend to instead focus on Android 2.0 [7]

Unofficial software and ROMs

It is possible to root the Pulse using software developed by the Android community[8] and a recovery image is also installable[9]
