Joshua Christian Nanai[4] (born 17 July 2003),[5] better known as Jawsh 685, is a New Zealand music producer.[6] While a student at Manurewa High School,[7] he made his breakthrough with the 2020 single "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" in collaboration with American R&B singer Jason Derulo, which reached number 1 in over 15 countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Early life and career
Nanai was born and raised in South Auckland,[8] and currently lives in Manurewa.[9] He is mixed half Samoan and half Cook Island descent.[8][10][11] The "685" in his stagename references the calling code for Samoa.[12] He became the first Pasifika person and the third New Zealand person to ever top the UK Singles Chart.[11]
