Source for Class 701

Do we have a better source for the Class being 701? AB Rail seems to be a fan website as far as I can tell. Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 16:26, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the lack of reliable sourcing, I have changed the page to a redirect, the content can be moved to the correct place when we know the actual class. Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 08:35, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This source has now been added by ‎Hammersfan. Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 10:08, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request for temporary page protection

Purely for the information of other editors, I have placed a request for temporary page protection to be applied to combat the persistent IP vandalism which is ongoing. Danners430 (talk) 16:56, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for putting in that request. Maurice Oly (talk) 17:09, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

701 entry into service

It is now 2024, I think we can quite safely say the 701s are not entering service in late 2023 since they have not entered service yet. So maybe a change of the wording from "Late 2023" to something like "To be announced". I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 12:38, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@I Like The british Rail Class 483 There is no harm in waiting for a source for this. One will come along in due course. Wikipedia:RSBREAKING Turini2 (talk) 13:10, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.fromthemurkydepths.co.uk/2024/01/02/south-western-railways-new-arterio-trains-four-years-late-and-fail-to-enter-service-in-2023/ Is this a reliable enough source? I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 00:43, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@I Like The british Rail Class 483 No, that is a self published blog. (WP:BLOGS) An example of a reliable source would be mainstream news (i.e. BBC News or Evening Standard), specialist railway press (i.e. International Railway Gazette or Modern Railways) or (if nothing else available) even SWR themselves. Turini2 (talk) 09:38, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Modern Railways twitter page has said it will be 2024. Today's Railways UK on X: "Happy new year to all our readers! Two @SW_Help 701s photographed on test/training runs at Waterloo this afternoon - 2024 is the year we will finally see these units enter service! https://t.co/FVOdN7SoqU" / X (twitter.com) I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 19:39, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's Today's Railways, not Modern Railways - and as above, we can wait for a concrete source on this. Twitter usually isn't a great source! Turini2 (talk) 20:12, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got the two confused, this is the Rail Magzine article published on the 5th of January 2024. Soft launch planned for delayed Arterios (railmagazine.com) I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 20:19, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That article was published in December - as per the line that says "The launch will be without fanfare, and it is not clear when in December the first train will run." (That reference is actually already in the article!) Turini2 (talk) 20:21, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If was written in December why does it say 05/01/2024 in the Header? I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 20:27, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree here - it’s not already in the page, it appears to be a new article going by the date. However, it doesn’t say anything about when the trains will actually launch - it could mean December 2025! Danners430 (talk) 21:28, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pual Clifton who works of the BBC has posted on there Twitter account with a video of the class 701s entering service today (09/01/2024). https://twitter.com/PaulCliftonBBC/status/1744667376681951478?t=lZUghfapqUNv_K72kMuQ4g&s=19 I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 11:06, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The account isn't verified, so really can't be best used as a reliable source. I'm sure the Rail press will be all over it given a few hours - like has been said, there's no deadline - better to wait for a good source. Danners430 (talk) 11:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any difference between Paul Clifton writing on his twitter account or writing for his job as transport person for the BBC who has written a number of articles. I see your point about the verification on Twitter, this account I think is verified on Twitter. https://twitter.com/SW_Help/status/1744734957564735994?t=LFjo7lUmM14Mnhyqd01eNw&s=19 I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 18:38, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Again, we can wait until we have a published source. There's no deadline. Turini2 (talk) 18:48, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We have a reliable source - the SW Help Twitter account, which is a verified company account. The article has already been updated. Danners430 (talk) 19:05, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danners430 I've restored the above comments that I think you accidentally deleted when moving the interior image thread. :) Turini2 (talk) 19:45, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me while I slap myself on the wrist - oopsie-daisy! Danners430 (talk) 19:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should we add the BBC news article on the 701 introduction which includes more information than the SWR tweet? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-67926688 I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 08:44, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@I Like The british Rail Class 483 It is already in the article. (also personal top tip - look out for and remove the .amp from webpages before you use them - Accelerated Mobile Pages) Turini2 (talk) 14:12, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find the BBC article i linked to into the reference list. I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 15:05, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reference number 9, "First of £1bn Arterio trains completes inaugural journey" - I've just edited it to add the reference date if that helps you find it. Turini2 (talk) 16:01, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I have now seen it. I Like The british Rail Class 483 (talk) 16:05, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary page protection

For info, I've requested (and it has been done) temporary page protection due to the number of unsourced/poorly sourced edits since the units were seen entering service today. Hopefully there's a good source sooner than later! Danners430 (talk) 14:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Interior image

The interior image is really poor, an odd shape and throwing the infobox off balance. Better to wait until an appropriate one is found perhaps? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sootysuerickie (talkcontribs) 16:55, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A better one will be along in due course - but in the interim, I've cropped the existing one to make it a better shape. Turini2 (talk) 19:43, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
