Adminscore

I mentioned this a while ago to Scottywong, but since you took over his tool: [1]. Basically, for CSD, you should exclude DB-moves from the score, since those are expected to be bluelinked. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 04:46, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Enterprisey. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

A&M redirects

Hello, Enterprisey. I'm writing to you because your bot is removing "redirect" assessement from WikiProject Anime and Manga articles (ex. 1, 2, 3). I'm not sure why it does this task, neither do I know how this is useful (it's really a doubt, not a critic). However, it's causing a problem: it's overpopulating the category Unassessed anime and manga articles, in which should be included only the new articles that were not assessed yet. How could we solve this problem? Sincerely, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 16:50, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Oops, sorry about that! When this bot task was going through the approval process, nobody really considered wikiprojects that weren't using the WPBannerMeta template. Looking at your project's talk page, it looks like the WP:A&M banner isn't going to be converted anytime soon. I think preventing the bot from removing the assessment when it notices that the banner is that of your project would work, so I'm going to make that change to the bot's code now. I'll also prepare a list of pages that were already affected in this way to see if we need a bot task to undo the edits. Enterprisey (talk!) 05:14, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
No problems. It seems A&M is a singular case. Thanks for your comprehension. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 20:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Microsoft Office XP

Thank you for evaluating the Microsoft Office XP article for Good Article status. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to improve the article before or after your evaluation is complete. I would prefer to address any shortcomings before that time. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 01:50, 27 December 2017 (UTC))

Sure! I've already started making notes on the review page about passages in the article that might need to be fixed, so feel free to respond to each note. (I'm using this review as a model for the review.) Enterprisey (talk!) 19:40, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I am sorry that I did not read this before or the notes; I wish that it would have notified me that you responded. I intend to address the comments in your notes tonight. Thank you for your time. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 21:03, 28 December 2017 (UTC))
Oh, no problem! I should've left a note that I actually did start the review on your talk page. Looking forward to a good review. Enterprisey (talk!) 22:26, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I replied to some of your comments. I hope that this leads to productive improvement and that you inform me of any other issues with the article. Thank you! (IanWilliam20 (talk) 02:32, 29 December 2017 (UTC))
I just wanted to mention that I have made more edits since I responded to your comments, including edits in regards to naming consistency, prose (more than one), and client vs. full file and service pack information. I even updated the caption for the introductory image. I hope that you find these changes to be satisfactory. Thank you for your time. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 17:58, 1 January 2018 (UTC))
The changes look good! Sorry I haven't been editing the review much lately, the tail end of the holiday season was a bit busy. But I should be back to reviewing it this week, probably tomorrow. Thanks! Enterprisey (talk!) 04:47, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! You are fine, of course. I hope that it has been well for you. I will enjoy more of your thoughts because I want it to be beautiful. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 18:51, 2 January 2018 (UTC))
I am sorry to bother you again, but there is something I wanted to ask you, as you are the article's reviewer. I should be bold, but how would you feel about a section dedicated to new features in the individual Office XP applications (e.g., Outlook 2002) (similar to this)? I do not intend to list every feature, of course, but I feel that such information would be immensely valuable. Naturally I will not work with this if you feel that it would detract from—or negatively affect—its potential as a Good Article, or its review process. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 20:59, 3 January 2018 (UTC))
Sure, that sounds like a great idea that would contribute to the article's coverage! It would definitely improve the article. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:18, 3 January 2018 (UTC
I have run into a bit of an issue, but I should be done with that section by January 8. I hope to address your other feedback (e.g., the .NET strategy) and make the appropriate edits at that time, as I have found the appropriate sources. Thank you for your feedback and for your patience. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 00:28, 5 January 2018 (UTC))
Enterprisey, I have added that section and have made changes based on your previous suggestions. When you are available please let me know what you think. Thank you for your assistance. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 04:15, 7 January 2018 (UTC))
Enterprisey, I truly do apologize for writing to you about this again—it is clear that you are busy—but it has been almost a month since you were last contacted. Are you still interested in assessing Microsoft Office XP? If you are no longer able or interested please let me know. I do not mean to sound like a broken record, as they say. Thank you. (IanWilliam20 (talk) 23:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC))
IanWilliam20, I apologize for the lengthy delay; I had a lot of IRL work to do and I kept thinking I would be able to come back to the review. Apparently this wasn't the case at all. As I said below, I think it would be better for another reviewer to finish the review. I appreciate all the work you put into the article, though! Enterprisey (talk!) 09:32, 26 February 2018 (UTC); (re-ping due to username change: Ian Wolfman Enterprisey (talk!) 09:33, 26 February 2018 (UTC))

draft-sorter.js and grade parameter

I've noticed that your draft-sorter.js script adds a 'grade' parameter whenever it adds any WikiProject banner. As far as I'm aware, 'grade' isn't a supported parameter for most WikiProject templates, and so it results in pages being added to cleanup categories (e.g. Category:Africa articles with invalid parameters). If there isn't another purpose, could you remove this from the script? Thanks. Harryboyles 00:47, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Enterprisey, could you please make your bot check whether a user exists before making a talk page for them? Based on Template:Did you know nominations/2018 Gulf of Alaska Earthquake (check the history), it created User talk:Multiple, no one editor seems primarily responsible for the article as it now exist (now deleted). Enterprisey, you have not returned to this review in nearly two months, and you have not been responsive to recent requests from the nominator to say when (or whether) you planned to return.

It was good of you to give GA reviewing a try, but that comes with a responsibility to communicate, especially when written directly. If you do not return to this review in some way by the end of February, I'm sure you will understand that I will go looking for another reviewer to take over where you left off. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:18, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

I don't think I'll be able to get back to it that soon, so I think it would be better for another reviewer to take over. I'm responding above too. Enterprisey (talk!) 09:30, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Admin recall
(Umm, actually making you recall that you need to run again for the RfA now)

Well, I got bombed in my first RfA, and I too had an alternative account that I did not connect to my main account, till just before my second RfA. So at least we both have got that in common :D

Since your first RfA, the feedback I have from the community is that you've contributed to build Wikipedia in unique ways, which editors really appreciate. If there's someone who has already passed Kudpung's criteria, I would really want to know why aren't you considering running again, now that much time has passed since the earlier RfA. If you're looking for a few supports before you decide, you have mine:

  • Lourdes 03:38, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your support! I would normally be interested in running again, but my current RL workload is incredibly high to the point where I can't do much else at the moment. If I had a week to spare, I absolutely would give it another try (after consulting a bunch of people, of course!) since it has been nearly two and a half years. If all goes well, I should be putting in a ton of time to the project over the summer, so I think that would be a good time to run again. Again, thanks! Enterprisey (talk!) 05:00, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

ACTRIAL - next steps for the Future of AfC & NPP

Hello Enterprisey, thank you for your efforts reviewing New Page and AfC submissions and your support for the ACTRIAL initiative.

The conclusion to the ACTRIAL report commissioned by the Wikimedia Foundation strongly reiterates our long-time on going requirements for the NPP and AfC processes to be improved. Within minutes of the trial being switched off, the feed was swamped with inappropriate creations and users are being blocked already.
This is now the moment to continue to collaborate with the WMF and their developers to bring the entire Curation system up to date by making a firm commitment to addressing the list of requirements to the excellent suite of tools the WMF developed for Curation. Some of these are already listed at Phabricator but may need a boost.
The conclusions also make some recommendations for AfC.
A place to discuss these issues initially is here where you are already a task force member.

Bot Error

I've just noticed that your bot seems to be making an error when notifying users of articles at DYK. If the nomination template's parameter (Template:Did you know nominations/[article title here]) is not an actual article title (e.g., Template:Did you know nominations/Marlon Bundo books), the bot sends a link to an invalid article title (e.g., Marlon Bundo books). IronGargoyle (talk) 17:54, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

sql as a programming language

if sql in general is a programming language (and I agree that it is) then it should be given the treatment all the others are. You have c, c++ etc all listed separately. SQLite, MSSQL and SQL are all similar but have different syntax to the point that they don't run each other's code. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thoughtpolice26 (talkcontribs) 04:50, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

I agree with you; I have previously stated on that article's talk page that I believe SQL should be listed. I have added it again. Enterprisey (talk!) 19:12, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Conversation on improvements to AfC process

Hi Enterprisey -- I'm Marshall Miller; I'm a new product manager at WMF with the Community Tech team. I'm currently working on a potential improvement to the Articles for Creation (AfC) process that I posted about here, and that's being discussed on the talk page.

I don't know if you've had a chance to check out that conversation, but I wanted to get in touch since a lot of the conversation has been around the tools that you've worked on for AfC. The discussion so far has narrowed down to a few leading improvements, and the work that the Community Tech team at WMF would do to pursue those improvements could likely involve enhancements to the AFCH script, or work that builds on things like the Pending AfC Submissions tool.

If you have time to weigh in on the conversation, or for us at the Community Tech team here to ask you questions about your work -- or if you want to collaborate on some of these improvements, please let me know! We would appreciate any bandwidth you can spare.

-- MMiller (WMF) (talk) 21:15, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Looks great! Thanks for working on this. I've responded a bit over there, and will post a bit more once I finish an alternative first couple of steps for the article wizard. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:55, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how infobox ship is parsed).

If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.

Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

G'day, recently added p template in for partially accepted AFC/R requests. Is it possible to add in code to place this over requests that have some redirects accepted and rejected?

Hello there! I have been using the delsort script but have been noticing whenever I choose "Cricket", the AfDs aren't actually going to the collection page. – TheGridExe (talk) 18:34, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

I see the issue. There's supposed to be a comment that reads
<!-- New AFD's should be placed on top of the list, directly below this line -->
at the top of the section where AfDs are supposed to go, but that seems to have been removed; I put it back. Probably I should fix the script so that it doesn't depend on the existence of the comment. Thanks for pointing this out! Enterprisey (talk!) 05:59, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Gadget-afchelper.js loading user JS

Hi there! I noticed MediaWiki:Gadget-afchelper.js sources User:Enterprisey/afch-master.js. This poses a security risk, since (while probably unlikely) your account could be compromised and someone could insert malicious code in your user script which affects everyone who uses Wikipedia. I noticed you're a sysop on testwiki, do you have two-factor authentication turned on? Doing so there will also mean you have 2FA here. Even if you do have it turned on, under principle it would be good to move the AFCH script to the MediaWiki namespace. You could make protected edit requests as needed, linking to the source on GitHub. What are your thoughts? Kind regards MusikAnimal talk 18:44, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I do have 2FA on. I'm less active in AFCH development than I was previously, so I'd be fine with this change. Enterprisey (talk!) 15:11, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Is it possible for you to implement a feature that checks the category first to prevent double listing? --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 07:45, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

That's a pretty good idea. Working on it now. Enterprisey (talk!) 03:00, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
And done. Let me know what you think (@Tyw7:). Enterprisey (talk!) 04:04, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Looks great. Thanks. --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 09:19, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Edit: Looks like you removed the box where you can try searching for categories. It seems that the box only appears after you've sorted it into the category. Is there a way to enable the search box without having to previously sort the request into a category? Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 10:31, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure which box was removed. Are you talking about the first search box on the right side? Can you paste (in a collapse box) any errors you're getting in the browser console? Enterprisey (talk!) 15:24, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
This is what I see. https://prnt.sc/k74rpr Instead of a search box, I see a select menu --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 16:23, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Alright, try it again? Should be fixed. Enterprisey (talk!) 00:04, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
I will have to wait until somebody nominates something. Will let you know after the test. Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 00:06, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Just tested. It works as before. Thanks. --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 09:37, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

List vs article

As it is in the notability guideline, although technically a list is a type of article, probably "list" is "differentiated" from "article", otherwise, why mention "list" and "article"? I guess you take it as a tautology but I take it as talking about two different things. So the removal of "lists" require discussion in the talk page. Thinker78 (talk) 21:03, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the explanation. I understand why the edit could be viewed as substantive, and I've started a discussion on WT:N about it. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:37, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Remove deletion from catagories

I don't suppose you could implement a way to easily remove the deletion from the category through your widget? Like clicking the "x" next to the category removes it from the said catagory. --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk to me • ✍️ Contributions) 11:58, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't think this use case occurs often enough to add a feature for it, and it's not complicated to do manually. (If someone wanted to write a patch for it, I'd definitely apply the patch though.) --Enterprisey (talk!) 17:30, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Fashion is listed twice in Delsort

As subject --Tyw7  (🗣️ Talk • ✍️ Contributions) Please ping me if you had replied 20:48, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

I looked into this and Fashion is also listed twice in the main list of delsort pages by topic (WP:DST). The list in the script should probably be kept the same way. However, I did add code to handle the case where both occurrences of the item were selected by silently just adding one. --Enterprisey (talk!) 00:37, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

AFCH issue

Hi Enterprisey. Have a look at Special:Diff/828608530/828608703 and it happened again, had to manually fix it in Special:Diff/828609568/next. Thanks again for the many hours you put into your fine scripts. Best, Sam Sailor 17:21, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

AFC/R

Hi Enterprisey. Would it make sense to disable the AFCH portletlink on WP:AFC/R? It doesn't do anything there AFAICT, and we have AFCRHS. Thanks, Sam Sailor 00:00, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Silly question, but do you mean the Review (AFCH) link in the "More" menu? Enterprisey (talk!) 00:48, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Yes, "Review (AFCH)" in the More menu is what I'm talking about. I always confuse it with "Review AFC/R" that User:EnterpriseyBot/AFCRHS.js puts in there. Thanks, Sam Sailor 10:50, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

AfD Stats

Hi Enterprisey. I hope you have a fine summer. Did you change the way AfD Stats handles right and wrong? I looked at mine, and I notice that my "keep" !vote in this discussion closed as "merge" counts as "didn't match". Sam Sailor 16:18, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, and I don't see any recent changes. I believe the reasoning of the original tool authors was that a merge is an indication that the content is unsuitable as a standalone article, but a keep is an indication that the content should largely remain at its current location. XTools edit counter

Hey there, I saw your comments about XTools on IRC. So you know, you can get just the namespace totals with XTools (example). This is still imposed by 350,000 edit count limitation, though. The issue obviously is users with a really high edit count can slow down the tool tremendously, for everyone else who uses it -- if not fail completely. The same is true for any tool with long-running queries. We have a few tasks to mitigate this, namely phab:T188677 and phab:T182182. I hope to get to them soon. I do have an older tool that just does the namespace counts, with no edit count limitation: toolforge:musikanimal/namespace_counter. It will run on Oshwah [2], but be prepared to wait ;)

Finally, I wanted to remind you XTools is open source. If you are interested, we'd absolutely love to have more contributors, even if it's just technical suggestions for improvements. Docs on how to contribute are at xtools.readthedocs.io. Cheers MusikAnimal talk 13:57, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

magnustools/quick_counter is another tool to get the namespace breakdown of edits by a user MusikAnimal talk 14:49, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the links! I had no idea you could click on the section name in the edit counter to get just that section; that's a great feature. I'll add all of the tools to the WP:WK list, since I hadn't heard about those too.
I sadly don't know any PHP, but I will definitely send over any ideas for improvements if I happen to have any. Enterprisey (talk!) 18:23, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
You should learn PHP! Not just so you can work on XTools, but because you are a talented developer and Wikimedia projects are predominantly PHP-based. I didn't know one lick of PHP two years ago, and somehow I've grown to love it. Learning it opened up the door to work on MediaWiki itself.

Back to the edit counter -- if you do decide to build your own, you will run into the same issues all the other tools have. Perhaps you're already aware of this, but namely, you have a hard limit of five database connections. So if five people are running the edit counter at the same time, the sixth person will be greeted with a "exceeded max connection limit" error. For this reason it's important to set some sane limits. You can do away with an edit count limit (a bad solution, admittedly), and instead set a max statement time so that queries gone wild are automatically killed. Failure to do this is why the old XTools and Supercount suffered from so much downtime. If you need more help in this area, feel free to ask. I'm mostly interested in how you plan to tackle this issue, as perhaps you have a better solution. MusikAnimal talk 16:56, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

How do I make your AFCRHS.js script work?

Block afch on WP:AFC/R via gadget instead?

Is there a good reason for this instead of editing the gadget itself to include:

(/^(?:User:|Draft:|Wikipedia(?:_talk)?:Articles_for_creation)/.test(mw.config.get('wgPageName')) && mw.config.get('wgPageName') !== 'Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Redirects')

Seems like the latter would be more efficient, but didn't know if you'd prefer it this way for testing or some other good reason. ~ Amory (utc) 12:03, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, it would be more efficient. I've gotten used to fixing bugs in AFCH by pushing them to my userspace, so that solution didn't occur to me. Edit request filed. Enterprisey (talk!) 19:44, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Okay, to comment on each source in order:
  1. cnbc.com: isn't primarily about Pointy, doesn't contribute to significant coverage
  2. forbes.com: quite good actually, I don't know how I missed it during the search; if we had another source of this quality I'd probably keep the article, to be honest.
  3. sfgate.com: doesn't seem to mention Pointy that much, unless I missed something
  4. youtube.com: YouTube cannot be used as a reliable source
  5. irishtimes.com: also quite good, bit of a PR piece though (IS concerns)
  6. businesspost.ie: paywalled, can't comment on how good it is, although I suspect I would have the same notes as for the irishtimes.com article
Summary: I'd probably have voted "keep" if I had done a better job searching & found these. (I can't get the Forbes article to show up on a news search for me, though.) I was obviously too quick to vote "delete" on this one. I'm considering a DRV; pinging Atsme and Tyw7 for thoughts before I do that. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:01, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi! Concerning the rollback you applied on my modifications[1], the summary function doesn't seem to leave much space for detailed explanations, which is why I put them in the talk page of the article[2]. But I'm beginning here, I'd appreciate if you could tell me how I did wrong. Thanks. -- Nuotzi (talk) 06:06, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the followup message. I did not see the talk page message you left, and will respond there. I've left your version up pending the outcome of any discussion on the talk page. Enterprisey (talk!) 23:47, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Also, Nuotzi, it's almost always a good idea to write an edit summary, even if you have to severely summarize your explanation (and post a longer one on the talk page). Enterprisey (talk!) 23:49, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Delsort no longer visible on AfD pages

Hello Enterprisey, I use the delsort tool for occasional AfD discussions (in User:GermanJoe/vector.js). Usually the tool is shown in the "More" tab on top together with other installed tools such as rater, redirect highlighting and dash fixing. But now it's no longer showing (all other tools are still visible, I use Firefox 52.9.0). Maybe it's just some kind of loader issue or my clumsy call definition (I am not really experienced with more complex details of Wiki-functionality, and am just copypasting the installation instructions usually). I have other tools also installed at User:GermanJoe/common.js (just fyi). If you got some time, would you mind taking a quick look at the function call and possible issues please? I'd greatly appreciate any help. GermanJoe (talk) 19:54, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

PS: Maybe it helps as background info: the tool was still visible on 18 August, when I started an AfD nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elixir Technologies Corporation (2nd nomination). GermanJoe (talk) 20:08, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

GermanJoe, I located the problem. Your vector.js contains a call to mw.util.addPortletLink that isn't wrapped in the proper call, which means that all of the lines below it (including the line that imports the delsort script) won't run. You should copy the code at User:Enterprisey/vector.js (which is just the code at your vector.js with one modification - i.e. wrapping the addPortletLink call) to your vector.js, which should fix the issue. Enterprisey (talk!) 20:39, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
That worked, thank you for your help. I knew, it had something to do with my less-than-optimal coding ;). GermanJoe (talk) 20:53, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

User/user in sigs and afdstats.py

Hi Enterprisey. A comment in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of double albums made me curious, but [3] returns no results. The only reason I can think of is Andrew using Andrew D. in his signature. Would something like ([Uu])ser in afdstats.py solve that? Sam Sailor 08:42, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Yup, I have way too many regular expressions floating around my various scripts & tools - mostly because I hit different edge cases in different tools. I should get around to unifying all of them. In this particular case, absolutely - and I should just make the entire namespace case-insensitive, since during reply-link testing I encountered a user who would sign USER:X (talk)! Enterprisey (talk!) 07:41, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Sam Sailor, should be fixed now. Enterprisey (talk!) 04:58, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

I'm looking through the submissions for the Columbus meeting. I'm working on a boring task and I get the impression your script might be relevant to my task. However, when I look at User:Enterprisey/reply-link, I see how to install it and I see how to use it but I don't quite get what it does. Could you include, or point to an example of its use?--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:18, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Sphilbrick, sure - once you install the script, navigate to any talk page or Wikipedia-space page with discussions, and after each signature you should see a new (reply) link. Clicking a link will open a form allowing you to reply to that comment, and once you click "Reply" your reply will be saved. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. While it doesn't help me with the task that I'm working on, I wonder if it has the potential of addressing a feature I think is missing and have asked for but haven't seen it built yet.
When I respond to someone, I'd like to include a ping if I'm not on that person's talk page as you just did. The problem is, I have to manually add a template, then go up to the previous reply and look carefully to make sure I get the username. In some cases this is straightforward but some people's username is not exactly the same as the text and the signature. I copy and paste that into the template and sometimes mess up. Once I hit publish I may realize I messed up because it's red but then it's too late. Even if I fix it, the ping feature doesn't work unless I add the template and sign in the same step.
My assumption is that your script must be able to detect that there is a signature and presumably could access the username. From that, it ought to be straightforward to have an option in the reply form to start the reply with username. I wouldn't have to search to make sure I get the username exactly correct, it would pick up the username of the message I'm replying to. Is my assumption correct?--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:47, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
You can now ping people from edit summary too; the name of the user is already inserted there, so it might be interesting to add a link. --Izno (talk) 21:54, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Sphilbrick, yeah, I was actually thinking about adding this feature or a variant of it. Either we could have a ping template already in the text field, or we could ping the user in the edit summary. I was going to add an option, but wasn't sure if people would find it useful. It would be pretty easy to do it, though. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:56, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
I would find it very useful.--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:35, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

raw wgPageNames on AFCRHS

Just FYI there are two raw wgPageName's in User:EnterpriseyBot/AFCRHS.js. I didn't find the source for it on your github, so I didn't fix 'em since I figured they'd get overwritten on the next bot update, but wanted to let you know! ~ Amory (utc) 15:43, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Amorymeltzer, yeah, for my scripts in the bot's userspace, edits are just me at my computer triggering updates, so feel free to edit them and they won't be overwritten. If I don't get to it soonish (reasonably ahead of the upcoming update), feel free to do any fixes you like. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:38, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

AFD Stats not counting votes

I had voted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of men killed by women but AFD stats doesn't seem to include that. cc Σ since he's involved in the maintaince of the tool. --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 14:26, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

@Tyw7: It is because your talk page link in your sig is a link to User:Tyw7/t (a redirect to your talk page), rather than a link to User talk:Tyw7. The AfD stat tool looks for the talk page link for !votes (presumably because a lot of people have no user page link in their sig); because of this odd linking, it only seems to count your AfD !votes if you are the nominator. I changed the link in your sig at that AfD and now it shows up in the stat tool. I'd suggest fixing your sig? — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 02:02, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Insertcleverphrasehere, done. Is there a way to mass change my signature to link to User talk:Tyw7 on AFDs? --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 02:17, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Insertcleverphrasehere, it doesn't seem to want to count the vote for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Araya point battle and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Frat shag. Also maybe Enterprisey or Sigma could tweak the tool to count users linking to redirects for their talk page? --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 02:39, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
@Tyw7: Someone with Autowikibrowser could probably do it easily, but I'm not certain why it won't work on those particular AfDs. I tried a number of things but nothing worked. It seems that the tool is confused by something about the page. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 05:01, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Insertcleverphrasehere, how can I know who has AutoWikiBrowser? Edit: I posted at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks#Change_signature_on_AFD_templates --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 16:06, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Really what should happen is that the tool works even if you have a subpage of your user page in wikitext. I'll get on that, but what I suspect happens is that the tool requires a user talk page to be linked, not just a user page. Enterprisey (talk!) 02:52, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Enterprisey, so I guess the tool is broken if the user does not link to the talk page or use some sub page to redirect users like I have done.
Do you think if I do User talk:Tyw7/t to skip the headers, will it work? --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 02:54, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Try it? It should, although I don't know if we detect subpages in the regular expression. Enterprisey (talk!) 02:55, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Enterprisey, nope it didn't. I tried it with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IKASI and if I add the "t" the page disappears from the stat. Removing the t makes stats count that page again. --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 02:56, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Talk page messages

Hi, I noticed you left messages on a few users' talk pages regarding the INTADMIN debate. I'm sure this was in good faith, but if you're going to notify some users then you need to notify everyone who was involved with the discussion, otherwise if could be seen as WP:CANVASsing. Please could you go back and notify all participants. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amakuru (talkcontribs) 09:37, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I was trying not to indiscriminately spam all participants, and I'm only picking users who've made proposals on that page so far (to get constructive feedback on the proposal). I'll add a note to the discussion, though, as I forgot to do that. Enterprisey (talk!) 17:12, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I've only had a quick tinker with this script this morning, but it seems to solve a really obvious requirement. I don't know if you remember the debacle with Liquid Threads and Flow, but I remember reading that and thinking "what we need is to keep it simple, have a nicer user interface but keep the back end exactly the same so there's a backwards compatibility route". I've been around the block with software development enough now to know that if you try to solve a problem by throwing out the old system and replacing it with a new one, you are screwed. If the WMF had developed this instead, they would have got the problem solved without all that excessive faffing about. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:07, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, I definitely remember the LiquidThreads stuff - total lack of compatibility with existing processes. I tried taking design cues from Flow for this, especially the "waiting" animation and the overall shape of the design, so that turned out pretty well. Enterprisey (talk!) 05:20, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

TenPoundHammer, that was because of this. reftoolbar is a default enabled gadget, you don't need to manually load it, and the version you loaded was also no longer working. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 10:34, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Bug in afch-dev.js: Decline reason is posted when rejecting draft

Hi Enterprisey, thanks for maintaining the AFCH script. Currently, there is a minor bug in User:Enterprisey/afch-dev.js that causes the decline reason to be posted when I'm rejecting a draft. Here is a summary of what happens:

  1. The user clicks the "Decline/Reject" button.
  2. The user types in a decline reason.
  3. The user decides to reject the draft, and chooses the "Reject" radio button.
  4. Since the reject reason field is empty, the user types in a reject reason.
  5. The user clicks on the "Decline submission" button.
  6. Both the decline and reject reasons are posted on the draft page.

A couple of changes would improve the user experience:

  1. The decline and reject reason fields should be in sync when the user switches between the "Decline" and "Reject" radio buttons.
  2. When rejecting or declining, only one comment should be posted on the draft page.
  3. The "Decline submission" button should be renamed to "Reject submission" when the "Reject" radio button is selected.

Thanks for all of your work on this script. I really appreciate it! — Newslinger talk 02:41, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Definitely good ideas! Will get around to them when I have time. For now, tracked on GitHub. Enterprisey (talk!) 23:12, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Question

Hello! I was wondering if you had any advice for someone looking to get into user scripting. I have a handful of ideas I want to build + some older unmaintained scripts I would like to try keeping up to date. I have experience in JavaScript and a few other languages. Mostly wondering if you had any tips or good resources to look at. Thanks! zchrykng {T|C} 21:43, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Zchrykng, it's great that you want to get into script writing! I find it to be a really great and rewarding way to contribute. Feel free to ask me any specific questions that come up, but for starters I'd say the pages listed in the "Script writing" row in Wikipedia:User_scripts/Navbox are pretty helpful. Thanks! I will take a look later. zchrykng (talk) 02:05, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Text to image

Hello, Ent. I made a toolbar script yesterday that links to Special:RandomInCategory/Category:Pending AfC submissions but I can't seem to change the displayed text. Is there a way to change the text "RSu" to an image, for example - File:Book with Lens Flat Icon Vector.svg? This is the code:

$.when( mw.loader.using('mediawiki.util'), $.ready ).then( function() {mw.util.addPortletLink( 'p-views', '/wiki/Special:RandomInCategory/Pending_AfC_submissions', 'RSu', , 'Go to random draft submission', 'l');})

Your help is appreciated. Flooded with them hundreds 10:04, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

You could probably write a CSS rule to set the background-image to that image, and then set the font-size of the link to zero to hide it. Something like mw.util.addCSS( "#p-views { font-size: 0; background-image: url(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5f/Book_with_Lens_Flat_Icon_Vector.svg); }" ); (warning: not tested at all)? Wishlist item to globally implement something similar to your 'reply link' script

User:Enterprisey/reply-link is SUCH a good idea, the only problem is that the people most in need of it won't have it and will have to learn to reply the hard way (new users and logged out users). I logged a wishlist item at meta:Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Editing/Reply link for talk pages to make something similar as a default-on gadget. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:58, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Not sure where to put this, so I might as well mention it here: the same idea behind reply-link was apparently implemented on ru.wp back in February of this year: ru:Участник:Jack_who_built_the_house/convenientDiscussions.js. Maybe we should merge the two? I don't speak Russian and thus don't understand the interface, but it looks pretty cool. Enterprisey (talk!) 05:06, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

That script seems uncannily similar. Has a nice drop down with more options and change to edit summary. Mhakes things look a bit like flow which is ehhh. Galobtter (pingó mió) 06:03, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Galobtter, regarding the comment you deleted about my sleep schedule... I was waiting for someone to comment on that, lol. I would put my average bedtime anywhere from 2 to 4 AM, so I'm a bit of a night owl - made WikiConference quite a shock! I have an ongoing project of making my bedtime earlier, but it may take a while. Thanks for the advice, though!
Also, yeah, if the options available there look interesting (after I get them translated), I'll totally add them. There already seems to be some sort of button that lets you reply at the end of a section, without having to hunt for the final signature, which I'll add. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:37, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Few comments. 1) having a button to comment at the bottom of a section would be great for RfD, RfA, etc for adding a !vote at the bottom. 2) having a button to wrap a section in atop/abot, or hat/bat, would be handy in a lot of the same places as reply-link is, though I understand if it is out of scope for this. 3) reply-to is apparently broken on this page at the moment. ;P zchrykng (talk) 06:46, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Great suggestions! Regarding your third point, it seems fine on my end. What browser, and if you're getting errors in the browser console, can you paste them here? Enterprisey (talk!) 07:35, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Don't think it applies, but this is the only error I was getting.

Recently Active Users

Hello Enterprisey. I was recently observing the recently active users log and noticed that the link for myself leads to a blocked sock impersonating me (User:HickoryOughtShirt). This seems to be a similar problem for "Cote d'Azur" (turns to User:Cote d). On the help desk, it was pointed out the tool may have problems with percent-encoding of special characters and links. I am not very familiar in this area and of course this is not an urgent issue, it was just a problem you may want to address. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:11, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello Enterprisey, thank you for creating yet another very useful tool (manually extracting and double-checking the diffs was always a pain). Would you mind if I added this tool to WP:COPYVIO in "Other ressources", or is it too early for general usage? An issue with your unblock-review.js script

Hi Enterprisey! I gotta start off by saying: I definitely love your unblock-review.js script a lot! It definitely saves a good few minutes of time messing with the template and it's (mostly) been working just fine. I ran into an issue with it, however, when attempting to respond to an unblock request where the user used unblock-un to add a username change request alongside their request. If you look at the diff here where I used your script to respond to the request, it overwrote the template with unblock, which will obviously cause issues there ;-). But I also noticed that your script adds the "decline=" to the first default argument instead of the last one at the end of the template as well. When users copy the instructions to request an unblock and with a username change request, they're told the exact location to put each argument (1=, 2=, etc). I think that this will also add issues and in this exact situation... but now that I think about it while I type this out... that also doesn't make sense... but it does... I'll need to test it. Anyways, thought I'd let you know about this. Thanks again for writing this script! I hope you plan on implementing a fix in this situation so that I can use it with these unblock requests as well :-D. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:59, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

TL;DR: It'll be fixed soon.
As you can see, I've been editing a lot less recently, partially due to IRL stuff and partially due to this new thing I'm coding; it should make every script that works by inserting new things into wikitext a TON more accurate, and should resolve this particular issue entirely. It's pretty hard, though, so it may take a while. Enterprisey (talk!) 02:13, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
No worries! And thanks again for the script! Keep healthy and be well; real life obligations should always come first. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:28, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Script/tool request

Hi Enterprisey

I have used several of your tools and know you have technical wizardry. I have a relatively simply request for a script or wmflabs tool which counts "bad" AfC acceptances. The basic operation is as follows:

  1. Scan the history of Wikipedia:Articles for creation/recent for articles accepted by a user.
  2. Check to see if the articles exist.
  3. Return a percentage of exist/doesn't exist and a list of articles which no longer exist.

If possible:

  • Also check the articles to see if they are redirects.
  • Check the move log for the titles to detect if they were moved in to a new title.
  • Check the move log for articles moved to the draftspace.
  • Parse the deletion rationales to return the deletion reason and list it with the articles.

It may be possible to use timestamps of acceptance/move/deletion to reduce false positives with old move log entries that are not relevant. And perhaps check the deletion log to detect recreated articles even if there is an article at the title.

Thanks. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 22:05, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

This is a fantastic idea for the tool, and I will implement this when I have free time. Enterprisey (talk!) 02:15, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Bug in AFCH beta script

Hi! Recently, I declined Draft:Lalon Geeti, according to the edit history, the script should be notifying Neverdie1672018. However, it notified Enamur Syed instead (diff). The user has been renamed on 12 Nov, but the draft was submitted on 5 Nov. Maybe the script notifies the user who submitted the draft without checking if the user has been renamed or not. Can you fix this "bug" (or maybe I'm wrong)? Thanks. Abelmoschus Esculentus 02:16, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Seems like a bit of an edge case, so I'd assume we don't check for user renames. I'm tracking this on GitHub and will get to it eventually. Enterprisey (talk!) 03:58, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Del sorting script: tab complete

It sure would be great for deletion sorting if I could tab complete the selection of topic areas. Is that possible with OOUI? --Izno (talk) 18:44, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Izno, that's a great idea! Which text field are you talking about: the normal, upper field, or the "custom lists" fields? For the second one, I could enable the same sort of autocomplete that already runs on the upper list without too much trouble. Enterprisey (talk!) 09:01, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Hmm, not sure I communicated exactly what I wanted. :) Right now, there is already autocomplete in the field I care about (which is the DELSORT field)--what I'm looking for is that once the item has been selected by the autocompletion, I want to be able to hit tab to select it. --Izno (talk) 13:38, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Revision Deletion script

Have you ever thought of expanding your CopyVio RevDel request script to include all Revision Delete criteria? After all, someone made the template Revdel-rd3. I think it would be nice if we could have that, as well as RD2, RD5, and RD6 added to the script. funplussmart (talk) 01:36, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

That would be a pretty good suggestion, but per WP:REVDELREQUEST there should be no on-wiki way to request these. I've gone ahead and TfD'd it. Should there be a way to get some revision ranges output as wikitext or plain links? Probably, and I've made a note to myself to add that to the script. Automated cleanup tagging

Newbie-nursing award
Thank you very much for your excellent Wishlist proposal on adding inline cleanup template buttons to automated editing tools such as Twinkle and Huggle. It seems like it could substantially increase newbie retention[4] and save the wikis from slow death by ever-declining editor numbers. Best wishes for your newborn idea! Thank you! I hope it does does well too. Enterprisey (talk!) 09:28, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
You're welcome, do let me know how it goes. I've just posted about it here, here, and here. Amazingly, someone has already fixed and error in one of my posts, then gone and voted for the proposal, which is very encouraging! HLHJ (talk) 19:51, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Wishlist support counting

I saw your message on IRC. I wanted to let you know that we do have a bot that creates a voting report, we just haven't turned it on yet. From previous surveys it seems this report sort of gamifies the process, where people might focus on the popular proposals and not the others. So I think the plan is to wait another day or so to give everyone time to browse through all the proposals, then we'll turn on the automated report for the remainder of the voting phase. Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

Kevin submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

Depending on how you approach the Wikipedia editing experience, you might know Enterprisey's name well – or you might not know it at all. Even if you don't, you've probably benefited from his work. Enterprisey is one of our most valuable technical editors. His user scripts are immensely useful and powerful and include such pillars of the project as the AfC helper script (used by all Articles for Creation reviewers – its current version alone has been used over 41,000 times), the delsort script (which makes sorting AfDs easier, used over 14,000 times, reply-link (a script to make replying to talk page comments easier, used over 1,000 times), and countless more. His labs tools are part of many workflows and include such things as xfd-stats (used to generate statistics about editors' XfD votes) and vote-history (which shows the progression of votes in discussions over time). Unlike many technical editors, though, he's also diligently at work writing articles – among his 14 article creations and 4 DYKs is everything from Convolutional neural network to Gallimathias musicum. He doesn't seem fame or recognition, and has stayed unfailingly polite and superhumanly patient every time I have interacted with him. For all these reasons and more, it is my great honor to nominate Enterprisey to be Editor of the Week.

AFCH cleanup and CSD tags

I've spent the last day or so going through drafts tagged as G11 without being declined out of the AfC queue and noticed an odd behavior with AFCH's cleanup routine: it forces all of the AfC templates to the top and moves the CSD tag down below into the draft itself. This makes sense for other templates like maintenance tags, but for CSD tags wouldn't it make more sense to move them to the very top above the AfC templates so patrolling admins and reviewers can immediately see what criteria it's been flagged under? Articles for creation/Helper script

Quick question is there anywhere to suggest features for the helper script? Whispering(t) 14:06, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Whispering, right here's as good a place as any, although for features that wouldn't be unanimously supported I'd recommend WT:WPAFC first. Enterprisey (talk!) 21:53, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
Well I was wondering if we could get a option to add a CSD to the vandalism decline reason. However I was looking at it this morning and thought it would be a bit complex as you have vandalism, negative BLP, and attack pages all rolled into one in that decline reason. Anyway that's my idea not to sure how easy it would be to implement though. Whispering(t) 14:42, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Glenn Mena AFC you created has been deleted

Hi, the AFC for singer “Glenn Mena” which was created a month ago by me and accepted by you after much delibration at the Kiwi chat and one of the query you specifically stated was the article looks similar to the one previously created and I clarified my position on that, you also gave me guide on how to improve mine with the new sources, I woke up this morning and saw that another editor nominated it for speedy deletion per WP:G4 I thought I should notify you on this. You are the creating admin and I don’t understand anymore. Kareemarh (talk) 06:20, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

...Guess that was a judgment error on my part, although I still think a fair case could've been made for notability under the "major radio station" clause. Anyway, it's moot now. Enterprisey (talk!) 08:53, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Script request

Since section links were apparently implemented globally, they are now completely blue instead of gray. I don't like that; do you mind creating a script doing the opposite of User:Enterprisey/link-section-edits.js? Thanks in advance. wumbolo ^^^ 13:21, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I was actually already working on something like that, which should restore the status quo: User:Writ_Keeper/Scripts/sectionLinkShortener.js. Writ Keeper  14:49, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

Lantern Entertainment is different from The Weinstein Company

Hi - I posted this on the Lantern Entertainment Talk page and saw you had undid some of the corrections, based on the below conversation was hoping you could assist in making the necessary corrections to the page/create a new Lantern Entertainment page. I haven't heard from user DGG since he agreed to make the split and as you are able to make edits and are a neutral party was hoping you could help.

Disclosing that I am an employee of the company Lantern Entertainment, I am noting that this article is incorrect in saying Lantern Entertainment is the new name for The Weinstein Company. The correct information is that The Weinstein Company has effectively dissolved and sold its assets in a bankruptcy court to Lantern Capital for $289 million. Lantern Entertainment owns those assets, but is an entirely separate company. How can this page be edited to reflect the accurate information?

references: https://deadline.com/2018/07/weinstein-company-sale-approved-judge-lantern-capital-1202424618/

https://www.thewrap.com/weinstein-co-lantern-entertainment/

  • I think we do need two articles. The Weinstein Company is by far the better known at present, and the principal article should be at that name, and will give the information about the sale of the assets. Latern is notable enough by itself for a separate page, where the link can be briefly stated. I'm prepared to do the split. Using Navpops to fix linked misspellings

Hi, nice meeting you. Here's the link to the archive where I made my request online. I'd really appreciate it if you could add the option to pipe or not pipe... oh, I see, you responded to me back then! Thanks, wbm1058 (talk) 02:06, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I haven't forgotten about this. I'm just getting back into heavy script dev on here after some IRL stuff, so I'll probably be able to work on this (and everything else!) soonish. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:28, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Suggestions to quick-before

Hi, Enterprisey, and thanks for quick-before. Could you use something like encodeURIComponent(pageName.replace(/_/g, " ")) (or whatever the correct code is) so that a space substitues an underscores in the search string? The search result for e.g. "Lemon_plum" is quite different from "Lemon plum". Could the search result open in a new tab, please? Thanks, Sam Sailor 08:51, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks for reporting this! Enterprisey (talk!) 22:50, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing! Sam Sailor 10:12, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
In a few cases, such as unsubmitted drafts lacking a AFC submission template, quick-before is useful. Could you strip off the namespace prefix in namespaces other than ns:0? Thanks again, and happy holidays to you and your family. Sam Sailor 10:05, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

difff-permalink.js on Special:ComparePages

Hey there, a fan of your great scripts here.

Could you prevent diff-permalink.js from working on special:ComparePages? There the link shown is wrong.

Plus, you seem to be unaware of mw.util.getParamValue() which would have simplified most of the logic you've used.

SD0001 (talk) 15:40, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Should work now. Thanks! Enterprisey (talk!) 09:24, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Cv-revdel idea

responsiveHistoryCompare in action on a history page

Many thanks for cv-revdel! If one has Preferences → Recent changes → Number of edits to show in recent changes, page histories, and in logs set to a high number, Fred Gandt's responsiveHistoryCompare that dynamically moves the Compare selected revisions buttons next to the selected revisions on action=history pages eliminates scrolling up or down to find the button again. A really neat function. Unfortunately, responsiveHistoryCompare and cv-revdel conflict; cv-revdel still works fine, but both its Add range to revdel template buttons are displayed at the end of a history page when responsiveHistoryCompare is loaded. Would it be possible to add the functionality of responsiveHistoryCompare to cv-revdel? Sam Sailor 10:12, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi Sam Sailor and Enterprisey. I have added code to my script to move the Add range to revdel template buttons along with the Compare selected revisions. It works after making selections i.e. causes them to follow along, but doesn't affect the erroneous (when conflicted) initial positioning. That can be solved by editing:
var rangeBtn = document.createElement( "button" ),
    cmpSelRevsBtn = cmpSelRevsBtns[i]; // this var added
    rangeBtn.textContent = "Add range to revdel template";
    rangeBtn.className = "cv-rd-add-range";
cmpSelRevsBtn.parentNode.insertBefore( rangeBtn, cmpSelRevsBtn ); // and used here like this
in the load() function (I think ... I did something like that just now and it worked fine but it's really cold here, I desperately need a pee and my concentration capacity is practically zero). I'm watching :) Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 14:15, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Fred Gandt, works nicely! Sam Sailor 17:18, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

CAT:GFOO listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect CAT:GFOO. Since you had some involvement with the CAT:GFOO redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. --BDD (talk) 20:13, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Just wanted to put out feelers

for a script for ? The current process is that we expect users to follow all the steps listed in that template on their own, which is... not exactly practical for almost all new blockees, to put it charitably. How practical do you think it would be to write a script that handles the technical aspects of that template, added to the common.js of users who have their unblock requests tagged with , triggered by a user typing a pagename into a box on their user talk page? Thanks, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 20:58, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me. We may also want to package it as a gadget, so that we wouldn't need an interface administrator to cover these. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:46, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
Perfect – do you know how I could get the ball rolling in the user script community? Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 23:16, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
L235, one way would be WP:SCRIPTREQ. I could also just write this myself, but putting it there means someone'll get to it eventually if I can't. Enterprisey (talk!) 07:49, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Additions to the Football League season template

Hello! Enterprisey. Can you add these following fields to the football league season template. The nation the league exists in and a field for new teams for that season. Teams can't be promoted from the top division to the top division only from lower leagues. --80.212.169.229 (talk) 14:23, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Script tip

Hey. Just wanted to show you something amazing (IMO). It took me like 5 weeks, and a lot of restarts, but take a look at User:DannyS712 test/menu2.js. --DannyS712 (talk) 22:12, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

DannyS712, looks awesome! This sort of menu definitely has a lot of potential uses. Enterprisey (talk!) 22:30, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
@Enterprisey: Yeah! I want to send a message to everyone who has a user script that adds their tools to "p-cactions", asking that they allow people to customize where the tool goes. I'll draft a message, and then can you look it over? --DannyS712 (talk) 22:37, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Not everyone uses Vector. ;) --Izno (talk) 22:43, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
@Izno: Well I might try to port this for other skins, but I made it because I use vector... and because vector is better :) --DannyS712 (talk) 22:47, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Regarding that point, I think we may want to investigate how Twinkle makes its menu, since it's likely that they do it in a way that's compatible with the different skins. Enterprisey (talk!) 22:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
@Enterprisey: That's where I got the idea from, but it was really hard to find where twinkle codes that and how to replicate it --DannyS712 (talk) 22:57, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I figured. Maybe more of a down-the-road sort of project. Enterprisey (talk!) 23:03, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: See MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js, the function Twinkle.addPortlet. Twinkle creates a dropdown menu only on Vector. On other skins, it merely lists its options at the top or in sidebar. SD0001 (talk) 20:31, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

script-installer

Hey Enterprisey,

Is there a way to add / modify scripts from global.js from Meta? -- 1989 (talk) 20:12, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

1989, you mean editing meta:Special:MyPage/global.js, right? If so, that sounds like a pretty good idea. I can list installed scripts over there pretty easily, as well as provide the ability to move scripts to your global.js page. I haven't come up with a good user interface for installing a script directly to a specific target (i.e. something besides your common.js), but when I do, it'll support global.js pages from the beginning. Enterprisey (talk!) 18:42, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Enterprisey. In this edit, EnterpriseyBot seems to have misidentified my new section at Wikipedia:Bot requests as a reply to the previous section. I created the new section using the "Make a new request" button. If by some chance it's due to some characteristic of the section heading (maybe the "=" sign?), feel free to tweak the section heading to make EnterpriseyBot happy. Regards. Reply script not working

Every time I try to reply using the inline reply script of yours, I get an error. It looks updated, so I guess there might be a bug in a recent version.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 23:35, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

I'll put some extra logging in there when I have free time, so that should improve debugging. For now, Cyberpower678, which browser and OS are you using? And have you noticed any gadgets that seem to be interfering with it in particular? (You don't have to investigate that yourself, but just in case you've already noticed something in particular.) Enterprisey, all of my gadgets appear to be in working order except for this one. I was my iPhone and Mac so it would be Safari for iOS and macOS. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:02, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

CV-revdel

Hi. I was wondering if you would be able to turn off the portlet when looking at pages in the "Special" namespace, given that it doesn't do anything if you click the link. I'm pretty sure that if you change line 182 of the source code to include the check:

} else if (mw.config.get('wgCanonicalNamespace') !== 'Special') {

it should be enough... Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 04:33, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

New script suggestion

I saw your RfA. A few years ago, I mooted the possibility of generating something to flag-up non-active users (perhaps over one year); added to that could be an optional last-edit date. The first programmer suggested to me turned out to be blocked, and the second I approached directly I don't think was capable (stated to be an IT worker but may not have been a programmer), but suggested it could be achieved via a Javascript. Is this general suggestion viable? My primary reason was prompted by the Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling, where there are (now) 161 members (I am not a member, and do not intend to be) the majority of whom are inactive, some are blocked, some have never contributed; notionally, at the time, around 20 or so were active at any one time (with the majority never directly interacting), but the member list needs to be examined one entry at a time to ascertain activity. The original suggestion that I picked up on was the large amount of MediaWiki messages being delivered to dormant, un-accessed Talk pages, occupying server space (although the latter seems limit-less). A few years have elapsed, so I am unsure if this has been addressed. No urgency, but thought I'd run it past you for consideration. rgds,--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 02:55, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
