AT A BETTER TIME. REPORTER: NURSES PLAY SUCH A VITAL ROLES IN OUR LIFE, ESPECIALLY NOW DURING THE PANDEMIC. GALEN COLLEGE IS SEEING MORE INTEREST IN THE FIELD AND THEY HAVE A BIG FACILITY TO MEET THE KNEE. >> WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE THE EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY AND THE SPACE TO BE ABLE TO ADEQUATELY EDUCATE THEM, AND THIS BUILDING GIVES US THAT OPPORTUNITY. REPORTER: GALEN COLLEGE OF NURSING’S NEW 130,000 SQUARE FOOT CAMPUS QUALIFIES AS THE AREA’S LARGEST AND MOST ADVANCED NURSING EDUCATION FACILITY. >> WE ARE THE LARGEST EDUCATOR OF PRE-LICENSED NURSES IN KENTUCKY WITH SOME OF THE BEST OUTCOMES AS WELL. REPORTER: THE STATE OF THE-ART FACILITY INCLUDES A LARGE SIMULATION HOSPITAL, LABS, AND A STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER. DR. AUDRIA DENKER SAYS IT WAS DESIGNED WITH STUDENTS IN MIND >> WE EXPANDED THE AREAS IN WHICH STUDENTS CAN HANG OUT AND STUDY. REPORTER: MANEQUINS ARE AVAILBLE FOR STUDENTS TO PRACTICE ON, WIFI HOOKUPS AND OUTLETS ARE READILY AVAILABLE. >> THEY DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE. THEY CAN STAY HERE AND STUDY, WALK OVER AND GET A COKE IN THE CAFE. THEY CAN GO TO THE LIBRARY IF THEY NEED QUIET TIME OR NEED HELP FROM MY LIBRARIANS. REPORTER: THE CAMPUS SERVES AROUND 1500 STUDENTS. WITH SPECIAL AIR CLEANING SYSTEMS AND DOUBLE THE SPACE, DENKER BELIEVES IT CREATES OPPORTUNITY FOR A SAFER ENVIRONMENT DURING THE PANDEMIC. >> WE HAVE SCREENING TECHNOLOGY AT THE FRONT DOOR THAT SCANS EVERYBODY’S TEMPERATURE AS THEY COME THROUGH. Galen College of Nursing has built the area's largest, most advanced facility dedicated solely to nursing education.The new campus is 130,000 square feet and is located on Terra Crossing Boulevard, off the Old Henry exit of the Gene Snyder Freeway.The facility features high-level clinical-learning labs, active-learning classrooms, an advanced simulation hospital, a café and more to offer students the best nursing education possible.Galen leaders said the facility was created with students in mind.“We now have the area’s most advanced and unique educational facility dedicated solely to nursing,” said Mark Vogt, Galen’s Chief Executive Officer. “As the largest educator of nurses in the South and the largest educator of nurses in Kentucky for the past nine years, it is incumbent on us to consistently exceed expectations in the delivery of the best nursing education possible for our students, for the health care systems where they’ll practice, and the patients for whom they will care. Our potential for impact in our communities is limitless as the need for nurses has never been greater. We couldn’t be more honored and excited to continue in this journey of growth and evolution as nurse educators.”The facility is also equipped with an air cleaning system and screening technology at the front door that scans people's body temperature when they enter.More than 700 nursing students graduate from Galen's Louisville campus each year, with excellence in licensure pass rates.The campus will serve about 1,500 students.For more information, click here.
