Peeling open container after container of Greek yogurt isn't the only way to get your probiotic fix. The latest and greatest way to load up on the good stuff: probiotic drinks.

Quick refresher: The probiotics found in these drinks (and other probiotic-containing foods) are live microorganisms that are supposed to be good for your body. “These bacteria are similar to some of the strains of bacteria that live in your GI tract,” explains dietitian Scott Keatley, RD, owner of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy.

Probiotics can help with your body ward off a slew of different issues, like diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, eczema, yeast infections, and UTIs, says dietitian Katherine Brooking, RD, of AppforHealth.

You already know about kombucha (basically the O.G. of probiotic beverages) but these days the probiotic drink scene has expanded to include kefirs that resemble easy-to-drink yogurt smoothies and sparkling bacteria-packed waters.

“The probiotics in beverages can come from fermented dairy, such as yogurt or kefir, or fermented vegetables," says Amy Gorin, RDN, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition. "Or, they can be added to a beverage during manufacturing.”

Though different probiotic strains can offer different potential benefits, you can pretty much guarantee you're doing your body some sort of good when you sip on a quality probiotic bevvy, says Brooking.

While the research isn’t cut-and-dry just yet, these liquid probiotic products may indeed help support digestion and metabolic health, in particular, she adds.

Gorin recommends Wallaby's kefirs because they have a slightly less-sour taste that may make them more palatable than other brands.
