How to fix the launch issues. just dont play it
Just play the GoG version, problem solved, lol.
What is the difference between Blizzard and GoG version?
Kinda sucks it took them this long to put out Diablo 1 and then they didn't even make sure it worked properly.
GoG runs fine and has hellfire "expansion"
The Battle.net version is the GOG version. The difference is the GOG version installer runs a command prompt script to set Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. The bnet version lacks this command prompt script and expects you to do it manually. For the Battle.net version, go in the Diablo folder, right click diablo.exe, go to compatibility tab and set Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode to on. Do the same thing for hellfire.exe in the Hellfire folder and then hellfire sub folder. Once you do this, it works fine from the bnet launcher.
I fixed it by playing Last Epoch instead.
Here I thought getting the Bnet version makes it possible to play without doing days of research how to get it to work as it is with my og CD versions and Blizzard still f*ed it up. Its easier to keep an old PC with Win 98 then this whole sh!t show with every old game. Even on Win7 I could play it by just disabling the MS Explorer so it doesn't screw up the colors. But Win10 is a sh!t show by now and I definitely will never get myself Win11 or higher.
Creating a desktop shortcut for Diablo 1 worked fine, but did nothing for Hellfire - and I was excited to try D1 monk. I tried Hellfire in compatability mode with several different options and nothing is working- screen goes black, then back to desktop. What am I doing wrong? Also, I don't care to use the GoG or any 3rd party downloads/versions of the game please.
