Obituary: Pickens, Harold Lee
Harold Lee Pickens, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 68. He was born on March 13, 1956, in Parkersburg, WV to Roscoe Ronald Pickens and Virginia Geraldine Pickens.
Following his graduation from Parkersburg South High School, Harold became a truck driver and would later dedicate 25 years driving for Walmart, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and friendly demeanor. His passion for the open road was matched only by his love for dirt track racing. He was a dedicated member and former President of the Wedge Racing Association. Harold spent countless hours working on vehicles with his two sons, sharing his knowledge with them. Harold also found joy in hunting and fishing, often sharing these cherished moments with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Harold is survived by his devoted wife, Melva Mahaney Pickens, whom he married on December 30, 1983, that stood by his side through life’s ups and downs. He leaves behind two sons, Gary (Lynn) and Ron Pickens, and a daughter, Teresa Pickens. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Brittney Pietzcker and Kiel, Logan, and ZsaZsa Pickens, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Trek and Harrison Pietzcker. He is also survived by his nephew, Ronald “Slim” Pickens.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Ronald Pickens and Clarence Pickens.
A funeral service will be held at the BARLOW CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME in Barlow, Ohio, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Lester Morgan officiating. Following the service, a graveside service will take place at Tunnel Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4 to 7 pm and again on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10 to 11 am.
