I hadn't been here in years. I bought the almond croissant which was loaded with almonds and the filling was just okay. I also bought the coconut bun for a family member. She didn't like the filling at all.
They a good selection of cakes you can order for special occasions and a decent selection of pastries, breads and sliced cakes.
A busy place. You have to get a ticket if you want something behind the glass case. Otherwise you take a tray along with tongs to grab the popular items.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 6, 2019
I discovered my favorite item at this bakery now. The butter sweet potato was just so delicious. I think this will be my to buy item in future.
I usually drop in when I crave for the old wife's biscuit pastry (known as marriage pie in this shop). I like the sweet and sticky gooey filling in a flaky pastry crust.
The rolls are nice too.
The place is small and can be confusing when many people are mulling around. Just get the ticket number and wait for your number to be served.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Issabelle F.Chicago, United States39569225116Jul 5, 2020
I love me some Saint Germain's.
I usually pop into the one in Richmond, but I was in the area so I stopped by. They carry the same selection of Chinese baked goods and pastries as they do in their Richmond location. As always, the staff were enthusiastic and helpful.
It was my mom's birthday and since she's a big fan of their mango cakes, I came in specifically to pick one up. However, as I was perusing the bakery, I ended up picking up a few more goodies: Portuguese egg tarts, lemon blueberry pound cake, banana walnut bread, and tuna buns. I luckily grabbed the last mango cake that they had in stock and was able to get a custom message written at no cost.
It was my first time having the lemon blueberry pound cake and banana walnut bread, and I much preferred the pound cake. The banana bread was a bit dry and I wasn't able to finish it. The mango cake was a clear winner in my house and no part of the cake was left behind.
As far as Chinese bakeries go, Saint Germain's is one of my favourites. It is a bit pricier, but I find the quality of all the treats are better.
I'll continue coming back here for all the mango cake and lemon blueberry pound cake. Yum!Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - Rich V.Fairview, Vancouver, BC010Jul 1, 2023
The Kerrisdale location are major PRICE GOUGING. Today when I stopped in to pick up the usual Carrot Cake the price increased $2.50 per unit. When I brought the sudden price increases to the attention of a staff member she said "it's cheaper than carrot cake at Starbucks and if I didn't like it I could shop elsewhere".
I made it very clear that I would take my business elsewhere.
PRICE GOUGING AND VERY IGNORANT STAFF!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 21, 2018
St Germain Bakery is located in Oakridge Centre. I rarely buy Chinese buns or pastry at Chinese Bakery.
I would not expect much service or quality of buns. I passed by the store and saw the staff loading up the bakeries... I thought it should freshly made from the oven. However, it's quite disappointed the BBQ pork buns not fluffy and pretty sweet.
Even though I got discount card, I don't think I would return for buns againHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 30, 2017
Tried the Triple Cheese Toast which I got swayed into after seeing a lady purchased 3 and a savory Wiener Green Onion Bun with Mayo
Triple Cheese Toast 2/5 It looked like toast with a different Melon topping. It is a confusing savoury and sweet ratio... interesting triple layer texture without the separation layer of cheese /fat/curds...not my thing, will not repurchase.
Wiener Green Onion Bun 2/5 This looked delicious, lacks flavour.
Overall, I know most Asian bakery lean to the "little salt, little oil, little sugar" philosophy... It is just little mild for my liking.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 9, 2019Updated review
Always the worst service at this location it was not busy and i had my number called i held it up and asked over and over again to multiple people 'who do i talk to' they all ignored me rude
one lady saw me but felt it was more important to wipe trays then sell cakes finally after waiting for her to finish them all she took my order and of course they are always too lazy to say thank you at this location their buns and cakes are not even that great they are only busy because they are in the mall
their rose cake tastes like a candle or drinking artificial essential oil so unbearably strong its scary inedible
their mocha cake tastes so strong its more like espresso cakeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 16, 2015Previous reviewTheir chicken pies lack the buttery flavor I prefer. Always too busy, crowded and very rushed when ordering. Their tuna bun really smelled and tasted bad so I threw it out, their bbq pork buns are tasty though. Their fruit cake was beautiful and readily available in the back for a last minute birthday which was nice but I prefer a bit more frosting and a fluffier sponge cake like Annas. If it's not busy they will ignore you until you ask for help.

I don't think their pastry are good. They are ok. Edible sense. So I bought a chestnut cake one time and I can say they are very generous on the chestnut unlike their competitor. I liked it.
Their pastry are charged a premium compared to the other Asian Pastry places. But most of the things they sell are things you can also get from their competitors. Nothing special
Just had their moon cake for mid autumn festival and I have to say its not that great compare to their other competitors. Kind of bland. It was oilyHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 27, 2019
Love their egg tarts here with flaky pastry crust. The custard part is so eggy and moist. Not overly sweet. I can easily have 2 in one seating.
I am also really in love with their mung beans pastry though they call it 'green bean pie'. It is in a flaky pastry shell and the filling is just perfect to me. Whenever I am here, this is my must have.
My other go-to includes their Tuna Buns and sometimes their BBQ Pork Buns. The quality here is alway superb and fresh.
Be sure to grab a number before you plan your order as without this little ticket, you won't be served. Line-ups can be long depending on what time of the day it is.
Their cakes are lovely too. My personal favourite is their chestnut cake. It is in fact the family's favourite. Moist, in a mousse-like consistency filling and again not overly sweet. The cake is spongey and addictive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 11, 2018
The egg tarts here are to die for!!
Went to the Oakridge mall during my trip to Vancouver, BC and finally made my way to Saint Germain bakery. I've seen a few during my stay and I noticed you can pick and choose your pastries at this location.
This review is for the egg tarts. Just plain. Not Portuguese egg tarts.
Let's start off, I'm a fan of egg tarts. I'm from San Francisco and there's plenty here but Saint Germain egg tarts are WARM when you get them. They're very fresh being that it's placed out for people to grab them. Not too sweet and the crust was pretty darn good. Oh, they were not expensive.. unlike the ones back home.
So glad I tried this bakery! I wished I didn't try this on the last day of my stay.. I will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
