Okay, it's Safeway. Long lines, staff hates their jobs complaining it's their break in front of customers and the deli ignores you. However, it's always stocked and not while you are shopping, which is a constant annoyance at Harris Teeter.

The pluses: best floral and gifts, local and fresh produce, always a manager around, one floor shopping.

Staff is very racist. Seems, even at various times, the same white older woman is always behind me on line to pay for items. Thinking she may be a loss prevention employee of Safeway, it is ridiculous because I always pay for items and never cause a problem. Also had to show identification for using my debit card, when I showed my drivers license, they insisted on holding it. Good grief. Showed the manager my identification and then told them to keep their items and walked out. Really tired of such terrible treatment, DO BETTER! If it happens again then I will call that white older woman out for following me and post on the internet!

I prefer the Dangerousway. Wait, is that the backdoor way? Hmm OK I like both. Or is that sans rubber? I like that too. OK I'll take all of it.

      That's what she said.

I've never been a big fan of Safeway and this one in particular is problematic because it is limited in terms of space, and the traffic in this area is absolutely nightmarish. They really need to do something about it - like build some underground roads or something because things cannot go on this way. Absolute gridlock. The store itself is expensive and is often sold out of the things that I come here looking for. Same goes for my uncle.

I've lived in the area and shopped in this Safeway for over 30 years. It is sad how badly the staff have deteriorated. Today I was actually refused service by an employee. I waiting in the checkout line behind a sizeable order when another clerk approached the woman in front of me and flagged her to another cash register she was opening. I allowed the woman In front of me to go first but when I followed her to go to the quicker line the cashier told me no, she wasn't calling me and waved people who had just come to the checkout to cut in line ahead of me. I only had nine items in my basket. The employee saw me standing there before the other people who rushed up but essentially told me she wasn't going to wait on me. If this store is going to pick and choose who to serve they aren't going to be in business much longer. That employee certainly made it clear that other customers are valued more than I am.

I love safeway but not this one. They should teach their staff how to be more friendly rather than being racist. I guess when you're asian they won't even accommodate you if you need help. Because that's what happened to me. Also, their staff at the self checkout (9:10pm who ever he is) rather than telling me where the line starts he literally just look at me and let the other person behind me go first!! I would never ever come back at this location ever. Also, most of their items are expired that's why I'm always hesitant going at this grocery store. Friendly advice to everyone who's planning to do grocery shopping here always check the expiration date and be ready to be ignored by their staffs if you need help!

This is a decent safeway, only because its close to my place. I've been to larger and grander ones, but this one seems pretty old and outdated in comparison to the newer ones.

The store is more compact that the newer stores, and compared to the Harris Teeter across the street, it really sucks.

On the plus side, their meat deals seem to be cheaper and fresh compared to Shoppers Food Warehouse. And Safeways are located everywhere in this area, so if this one sucks, I can always go to another one!

I have been coming here since forever. Has gotten so bad. Rude employees, no cashiers, etc.

Tonight the manager just strolls by and there where at least 10 customers in line. Did absolutely nothing. I don't think he even noticed much less cared.

      Bye safeway

I very rarely have trouble getting what I need from this location. There is a good selection of everything. I was, however, disappointed that they stopped carrying my favorite Brie because I had been so impressed when I found it there. Normally, you can only find it at Harris Teeter. And that's unfortunately still the case since this Safeway stopped carrying it. But I will still shop here. The location is convenient, and you get gas points at Sunoco when you shop.

Been here twice. Food selection is decent. We found everything we needed. Points off for poor check out line service. The cashiers didn't know how to do certain things when the credit card reader wasn't working and they didn't help each other. Our cashier also was very rough with the food, seeming to slam it down on the conveyor belt. Even the eggs! Makes the Nutley st store seem like 4 stars. This is not our usual store and hopefully it is not like this all the time.

I know safeways are no Wegmens, WFs, or even Teeters but this one sets an all new low for all safeways... even worse than the one in Old Town Alexandria.
      1. They never have more than 1-2 registers open even when the lines go to the back of the store.
      2. They keep promoting the Safeway 4U rewards but they never properly link to your account and no employees there can help.
      3. Many items are damaged or out of stock and there are rarely employees around who can help you.

      Will avoid at all costs.
