Nice place to hike. Some trails are marked better than others. Stop at the nature center and Julie will recommend a hike for you.

We love Burr Oak State Park and lodge! We schedule an annual visit every December so we can relax, explore, and sit by the fireplace. We enjoy the lodge so much we decided to get married in the lobby. (JULY 2018)
Each visit is very special and unique. They staff is very accommodating and the view of the lake is beautiful and peaceful.
This is a great place to get away and simply relax.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jake W.Marietta, OH076Jun 30, 2019
We have had a skunk problem since night one and the ranger told us that we would be compensated for the skunk constantly being inside our camp site, but the young man at the check in office said there will be no compensation. We paid alot of money to stay in here for almost a whole week and have been harassed by a skunk every evening and night which cuts off our night...we will most likely be going to a different place next trip if this issue is not resolved, we have been coming here for years and this is the first year there has been a problem with skunks.

I don't know about the rest of the park but the beach is awesome. We got lost and wound up at the lodge searching for Beach directions.
When we finally found the beach we were not disappointed! It reminded me a lot of West Branch State Parks beach, but a little smaller. I love that you are surrounded by trees. And I love Appalachian Ohio, so this is the perfect little lake beach for me. If I recall the water was pretty shallow but that helps make it warmer. What better way to spend a 85 degree day in Ohio than this gem.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Suzanne C.Decatur, GA272323199Oct 10, 2012First to Review
So I didn't die in my tent or anything, which is a great way to start a review of a campsite. (In my own defense, the deer were really loud foragers at 3a. I thought it was drunk hunters with chainsaws for hands or something, okay?)
Burr Oak is an awkward little park, clustered around the banks of a man-made lake. It's pretty. And the grounds are spacious, but there is an awkward problem of having everything spread everywhere. Getting to the park office from the campgrounds? Half an hour's drive. But it's okay, because there aren't any zombie deer or reanimated scarecrows on that drive, either.
Burr Oak is one of the few state parks in Ohio to have flush toilets instead of pit latrines. I didn't meet any raccoons in the toilets, nor did I feel the need to get a tetanus shot after my camping experience. The brochure advertises shower houses, but we never found them. Good thing it was cold when we spent a long weekend camping? We were a little concerned about our tent washing down the hill because the non-electric sites from 61 to 80 aren't really terraced. I did not wake up in a tree having been washed down a hill, but there was a distinct possibility. Some major terracing would cut back on the erosion of campsites. On the other hand, Burr Oak has really nice water stations. (The non-campers are rolling their eyes, but you come to appreciate things like ease of washing dishes when you're living in a little nylon hut in 40 degree weather for 4 days.)
If you're like me and didn't feel like paying Hocking Hills prices or dealing with piles of Hocking Hills tourists, Burr Oak is close enough for a day trip to the 'Hills. See the famous stuff and sleep in a nearly abandoned, much more affordable site somewhere else. (Okay, that's not a good pitch.) But we enjoyed the trek without having to "enjoy" the hustle and bustle of Hocking Hills. A quiet camping experience was much more our speed.
Accessibility notes: No braille signage anywhere. Few paths. Electric sites are accessible for mobility devices, but non-electric sites are not. No accessible restrooms on the campground side of the lake. Beach is barely accessible.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Sabrina P.OH, OH220Aug 8, 2021
Love this place but the horse camp grounds needs some work. There's not bathrooms or showers on the campsite nor a place to throw away trash and the water spicket is broken. The map need to be updated and earlier to read Bc it's confusing and you can get lost pretty easily.

We camped at the state park campground and rented a boat on the lake. This lake is so pretty, not busy, boat rates were reasonable and staff were friendly. The campground is less than ideal with most sites on a steep hill and no views of the water. They moved us to a flat site that was closed for future renovations so we ended up enjoying our stay. I would probably camp at the national forest campground down the road next time.

My stay at Burr Oak was a great experience. I booked a cabin for a week during Ohio's archery deer season in early November. Fall colors were awesome and weather was very warm. Cabins had everything necessary for our stay. Even tho our bowhunt harvest was unsuccessful due to the very warm weather, our stay was great. These cabins are very pricey. I would say much too high BUT it was a great place to come to. I will pull my fifth wheel on my next visit and camp in the park.
