Very disorganized at the back end. It looked like a Chinese fire drill. All the customers around me had stink faces and the employees did a lot of wandering and lolly-gagging. My agent, Johnny, did a wonderful job trying to keep us in the loop, but the wait was still miserable. He was the only aspect of carmax that earned points with me. Many thanks to Johnny. We were there for four hours to buy a car we had transferred from Jacksonville, already had our financing in place and after a brief test drive, we decided to purchase. Arrived there at 14:00hrs and after ping-ponging back and forth with my bank, the funding arrived. Then the wait began...
I have to add that at some point I had to use their facilities and here is where they get an F. The bathroom was nasty. It looked like one you would find in a very neglected filling station (gas station for you young 'uns). You'd think that when we are dealing with a horrible pandemic, they would at least be a little cleaner.
The operation could use a major overall. They need to segregate those buying with those selling. ...and if you are going to take over 4 hours to make a sale that was a slam dunk, at least have more to offer the buyer then a measly bottle of water.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Richard A.Naples, FL050Mar 1, 2025
They make me feel dirty by association.
I wanted to sell my Tesla S Plaid to CarMax. I received an estimate on-line for 51,000 to 60,000. I made an appointment for them to look at it and waited. They told me it would be emailed to me that day.
After a couple of hours, I received a price of $46,000. That was at least 5,000 lower than their lowest estimate.
I feel I was scammed! It was a dirty deed and wasted 3-5 hours for nothing.
Stay away.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mileena C.FL, FL32644Jan 6, 2024
Mark helped me and my husband purchase a car here. He was amazing! and very patient. We were looking for a car that was a best fit for our family and we found it with his help. The process as far as paperwork was very seamlessly done. If I needed another car I would definitely come back or recommend anyone else to come here. Thank you Mark!

Decided to stop by this Carmax as we were passing by, I was already pre qualified through capital one and was car shopping around online but I decided to give this location a try! For it being a Saturday we didn't wait to long to speak to a sales rep. Hicham was AMAZING!!!! Omg the best sales rep I've ever encountered. He was professional, attentive and answered all our questions. We feel in love with another color but unfortunately it was on hold for someone else that was interested in. He showed us one that was about same price, little less mileage and in white and automatically we fell in love! We missed it when we were looking around. He made our transaction easy and quick. We have nothing negative to say about the experience we had. We will definitely recommend this location and Hicham.

I have bought 4 cars from them over the years. The one I just did will be the last. They are now just as bad as any used car lot they claim not to be.

When the time came to get a car, picking where to but it was not up for discussion: Carmax! After previous fantastic experiences in the SoFl location, we headed to the Orlando one to test drive a few choices. Scheduling the test drives was easy and fast, and was confirmed via text. We went with an experienced, very nice gentleman (Mark) for the few test drives and after making a final selection, went for it. Having a few options on the APP was a game changer, as we ended up switching choices at the last minute. The "paperwork" was easy and fast, the trade in was seamless and we drove out happy and knowing if anything happens they'll take care of it. I doubt we'll buy our next car, whenever that happens, anywhere but Carmax.

This is the most inefficient business I have ever witnessed. I made appointment with an offer from the internet and the process is over three hours at this point, for the "Express Check-In". When inquiring how much longer after the second "20 minutes" that was in actuality 45, I was dismissed from the desk with a hand wave. Shame on me, for thinking this would be the way to go, but I will never ever set foot in this Carmax again, assuming I ever get to leave. If I could leave negative stars I would.

We were looking to trade in our Kia for my husband. We went in on an early Saturday morning to CarMax. We were helped immediately, salesperson was young but knowledgeable. We knew our price range and the type of car we wanted and looked outside in the lot of what was available. We were looking for a regular sedan but noticed an SUV in the lot that was just bought in. The salesperson said he wasn't sure if it was available yet but will try his best. We were able to get a great trade in for the hatchback that only had 5 months usage and a little over 1000 miles! We were thrilled! Process from cleaning out our car to signing paperwork took about a little more than 2 hours.

There is very little "good" I can say about CarMax. We have purchased 2 cars from them, and both cars had major issues within a month of driving them off the lot. The first one was a 2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible and broke down within a week and had to be towed back to them. They gave us "curtesy service" even though they claimed the problems as not theirs and did fix it upon our insistence. By the end of the first year, we were told by our auto shop that it had "more problems than it was worth to fix", so we traded it in for something newer.
The second car was a 2017 Nissan Versa. Within the first month we had it back to them because of a defect caught by our auto shop. They said if they had done an inspection properly, this would have been caught and fixed. Had to fight to get the parts covered. The final straw was when the car flat out started to quit on us, just this year. Now - we purchased in 2018, it sat for most of 2020, and the same auto shop couldn't believe the issues we were having with it. Once we got it running enough that it would run, we took it back to CarMax and they bought it back.
Moral is, if you are trying to get rid of a bad car, CarMax is great and will give you a decent amount for it. But don't buy from them. You definitely get what you pay for!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Mike M.Pennsville, NJ071Jul 27, 2023
Great and knowledgeable people to work with. Sold my Acura, fair price, and Alex was great!
