Nice, spacious Brazilian bakery! Lots of products to choose from and friendly staff. When we stopped by, they had run out of pão de queijo, so they made a new batch fresh for us.

This is an authentic Brazilian/Portuguese bakery. They have a wide selection. I only go for the pastel de nata. It's our favorite. They are delicious and fresh.
I've ordered a sandwich before which was ok and a chocolate muffin which I did not like.
The employees are friendly enough. There is ample seating. There is no parking lot only street parking which can be challenging depending on the time of day.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jul 24, 2024
Beautiful bakery with incredible selection of breads, rolls, pastries, sandwiches and more.
There are small tables inside to sit and enjoy.
I came away with 8 deliciously fresh Portuguese rolls, croissants, and a yummy ham & cheese sandwich. The service was fast and friendly.
I cannot wait to go back and highly recommend

The best Portuguese rolls in town. The bakery has a deli which provides good cold cuts. Also the baked goods are good as well although the last time I went the options were not as plentiful. Usually they are pretty quick and they do offer breakfast sandwiches and hot or cold sandwich options.

Food is a 3/5, but value and speed is 5/5!
Steak, egg, cheese sandwich for 2.75! It was huge!
Portuguese egg tart for 1.30! My sandwich only took about 5 minutes and they were quite busy.
Now for taste, I am usually accustomed to my egg tarts being served fresh and hot. They leave theirs cold in the fridge. I'm not sure what the norm is, nor do I know if they can heat it up, but I wish they were kept out hot/warm! They do put a lot of sugar in theirs as well too. I still liked it 3/5.
The sandwich was decent, couldn't really complain for the price. It's on the dry side, and could use some sauce. Probably would've been better if I had gotten the Portuguese sausage or breakfast sausage, since more fatty. 3/5.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Karen M.Bridgeport, CT4972113Oct 21, 2017
I went here often when I was younger. After a night out a classic bacon egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll was in order. There was no line (Saturday morning). The staff were super friendly (family owned feeling-I'm not sure if it is actually family owned though). Ordered two sandwiches and got a cheese Danish and a roll for a friend and I. The total was about 8 bucks, with the sandwiches costing about 2.75 or something like that.
Loved the sandwich, enjoyed the atmosphere, loved the speed. --I bit into my Danish about twice before they called us up for the hot sandwiches. An employee also let us have a "napa" I believe. They just came out the oven and he asked us if we'd ever had one, (we hadn't) he gave us one to split, and told us about its origin. It was also Delicious! It's been a long time, but it's nice to see that some things don't change. Love them.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cecilia C.Bridgeport, CT2060Dec 14, 2021
If you like fresh bread, this is the place to go and get it. Their rolls are amazing! Just add some butter and voilà! If you bought too many the following day put them in the over for a few minutes and they bounce back to their delicious crusty/soft goodness. Their cheesecake is also delectable!

Stopped in for a sandwich yesterday. Not many deli options in the area. Obviously their rolls are good but nice turkey and veggie toppings for the sandwich. And you can't beat $4.95 out the door. Basic menu options but still a solid place for a good sandwich.

Love love love their cheesecake. Hasn't been as moist and fresh as it was a month ago, but Chaves still makes the best cheesecakes and has some of the best sweets in Bridgeport Connecticut. Also very clean and always open. I will always support Chaves Bakery and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good bakery!
