Amazing homemade quality Mexican food!
El Rancho, definitely not to be confused with the mediocre chain El Rodeo, is serving up delicious Mexican fair with more of a family twist on the dishes. The restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but inside it is spotlessly clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated. Even though this was our first visit we were warmly welcomed by multiple staff members. Service throughout our visit was friendly and attentive. We had to laugh because they had a red or green tamale that night as an appetizer and my wife (who loves tamales) and I were trying to decide if we wanted to try the red or the green. Our server made the decision for us stating, in a parent/mother voice, "I'll just bring you one of each."...Loved this!
The menu covers many of the traditional Mexican dishes, but adjusted to meet the family's recipes. In addition to the tamales, we ordered the chips and pico de gallo. This was different than the usual "salsa". It was chopped/chunked and served on a plate with chips. We loved it this way because you could tell it was freshly made by hand, with great flavor. The meals we tried on the visit were the Al Pastor tacos and the carnitas platter. The tacos, 4 per order on corn tortillas, which did not fall apart, were very flavorful and had a very good portion of meat. The carnitas platter contained a very large portion of perfectly cooked and seasoned pork, with rice and beans. The beans were made from a white bean and were a nice change to the traditional black/refried beans. Both meals were incredible!
We both stated that this is better than any Mexican we've had in the HBG area!! El Rancho is a BYOB restaurant and I had originally planned on taking away one star for that since it was National Margarita Day and we couldn't order a margarita, but the food and service far made up for being BYOB! This is a great stop if you are in the Hanover area!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Scott S.Edgewood, MD7163Oct 25, 2022
Fantastic food! Was a little reluctant at first because the parking lot was empty in the middle of the lunch hour. Glad we decided to go inside.

I ordered two dinners of tacos Al pastor and they were the driest tacos I have ever eaten.

Hidden gem. Was in town on business. Found this restaurant on Yelp and it had good reviews. Colleague and I decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff extremely friendly. Will certainly return next time I'm in town.

This place is excellent. Our go-to place in the area for authentic Mexican food. The best carnitas I have had I use to work in a Mexican Restaurant in California. The service is fantastic. Start off with their Guac and Pico app and explore the menu. All plates are large so the portions will fill you up. If you are in the mood, inquire about the tamales, not on the menu but for those in the know. Don't forget to finish off with some fresh flan.

An authentic Mexican place, it's my favorite Mexican place in this area. Not the best I ever had but better than most places in the neighborhood. My favorite thing here is the Taco Supreme. Little bits of hot meat, melted cheese, guacamole, fresh tomatoes, and crunchy chips; it's addictive. Use the spicy sauces on top for an extra bite!
The tacos are delicious. Chorizo with fresh cilantro and are my favorite. I only wish I could order them a la carte, so that I could enjoy more variety per order.
Sopes were crunchy and very much enjoyed as well.
Fajitas - my husband seemed to enjoy it. It comes to you sizzling on a hot plate.
Enchiladas Verde (green) filled with chicken - are usually my favorite Mexican dish but I found them to be dry at this restaurant and was disappointed.
The tres leches is the best you'll get around here. I've had it a couple times. Homemade, sweet, milky, the only thing I don't like is the whipped cream squirts and the bright red maraschino cherry on top.
I would stay away from the sodas and juices. It's just so crammed with sugar. But that's typical of Mexican drinks so if that's your thing, go for it. I would suggest horchata if you've never had it, it's a rice drink and this place is authentic.
Seating is casual and the wait staff is nice enough.
I will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heather P.College Station, TX33816Aug 26, 2019
I saw the reviews for this place. We've been craving tex mex for awhile. We've missed it since we've moved from Houston. And there's not a lot that gets close in the area. This place does. It's a small family restaurant, clean, friendly and the price was right. I was not expecting the meal to compete with actual tex mex, but it does. It was so delicious, fresh...it was koala-tea. Honestly I have no problem saying it's our favorite restaurant in the area and we're choosy. The service was outstanding from start to finish. I waited to post this, because I didn't want to blow our new spot up, but honestly I'm gonna go as long as they're open.
