I have been with Fremont Bank since 1987. I have stayed with them because of the exceptional service I have always received from numerous branches. They always impress with their community involvement and generous charitable contributions. This particular branch is and always has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thank you for all you do in going above and beyond to assist with all banking needs. They set the standards for what a local community bank is all about.

Absolutely terrible experience from the start. Opened a business account. They held a CASHIER'S CHECK for 15 days. After talking to several people thinking they would be reasonable about the excessive hold time on a cashiers check not only did they simply refuse but I was questioned as to what I needed MY MONEY for. Seriously? I have to justify to my bank what I need to spend MY MONEY on?
Wrote my first check from the account, to myself, for over $2000 with plenty of available funds to cover it. Deposited in my personal account at another bank. No issue. Less than two weeks later I do the exact same thing, deposit into the same personal account, for less than half the amount. Again with more than enough available funds in the account and they REJECT the check because I was wasn't available to verify I wrote it when they called that afternoon. Hello!? I didn't get the message until the end of the day.
There appears to be no logical explanation to not honor a check I wrote to MYSELF just like the previous one. Am I supposed to call each time I write a check to give them a heads up first? Should I clear my appointments so I can be on standby in case they call to question a transaction? Who's got time for that?

This bank & this branch specifically is fantastic. I only wish I could give 10 stars instead of only 5. The level of customer service I received from both Gary and Gina at this branch was of a caliber I would only anticipate being able to access with extraordinary dollar volumes. They offered me the kind of personal care, attention and genuine concrete help that even the most prestigious banking client would be happy to pay for.
Both Gary and Gina went above and beyond to make sure I was able to close on an out of state property in a timely fashion. Due to errors on my end, the funds were not scheduled to be available until a week after the scheduled close. But thanks to the pro-active follow-up of both Gary & Gina in manually coordinating efforts with their back office and the institution from where the funds were coming from, the funds were released so that I was able to close timely. We've been working with Susan Munkner (Loan Officer) and Singeuth Thi (Relationship Processor) on a mortgage loan and wanted to share our positive experience throughout the process.
What we really appreciate is them being VERY responsive in email/phone. Whenever we needed something or had a question they made themselves available to address our needs. As with every escrow, the clock was ticking and we were getting what we needed in a timely manner. We can't thank Susan and Singeuth enough. We had so many issues - especially towards the end of the closing process, it was very disappointing. I honestly hope that our experience was a one-off exception and not the norm.
I'll start with, we chose Fremont Bank for the purchase an investment property. We chose Fremont Bank for this purchase as they specialize in investment loans.
The process seemed to start of smooth and initially we were pleased. We started our pre-approval process in mid-June. Marlo, our Loan Agent was pleasant and sent us what we needed to get started. My husband, with us just having gone through this process a year ago, had all the needed documentation ready so he was able to immediately upload it per her instructions.
The issues started once the Loan Processor, Jeanine got involved.
We should have seen this coming as when Jeanine sent her introductory email to us, she asked us to upload all of the various documents that they needed. Had she checked the file before introducing herself, she would have seen that ALL of the required documents had already been uploaded.
- Communication was horrible - reaching Jeanine on the phone was virtually impossible. We would call, leave messages, and send emails asking for calls back and never get a call back. My husband and I had to chase down, follow-up, and request status updates throughout the entire process.
- Our names were spelled wrong more than once (my middle name, then our last name).
- Neither Jeanine nor Marlo ever reached out to advise or discuss us sending out our closing costs. We were scheduled to close on 7/24. On 7/22 we reached out (via phone and email), asking Jeanine to confirm the amount we needed to send. We had received the pre-closing document and wanted to confirm that the amount listed was correct. Jeanine told us (via an email) to ask the Title company. I called the title company who advised us that they hadn't received the loan docs so they couldn't advise on the closing costs. I reached back out to Jeanine on this (in my email specifically asked to her call me TWICE). She never called. She finally sent an email stating, "Yes, confirmed to use that amount. I am on a call until 10:30". She still never called.
- 7/23 at 9:13am I called and sent an email to both Marlo and Jeanine asking for an update as I had called the title company and they advised me that they had not seen the documents. NO ONE CALLED. At 11:10am Jeanine emailed and advised, "The loan is final approved and we will be working on getting the loan documents over to title today". Then at 1:11pm, Jeanine sent an email requesting a form to be signed that they forgot to send over previously. I checked with our title company a little later and they advised that they still had not seen documents. When I inquired on this Jeanine replied in an email: "As I said previously - we are working on getting the loan documents out. When received THEY will reach out to you"
- We were supposed to close on Friday, 7/24 and docs weren't sent to title until late Thursday afternoon. We signed on Saturday and were told that we would close Monday.
- Monday came around and surprise - there was an issue of some missing HOA documents which delayed funding. The title company said they were the responsibility of the Bank and the bank said they were the responsibility of Title. Finally, our Real Estate Agent had to send details over on how to get the documents. (During the escrow process, our Realtor had to send documents or details on how to get documents more than once).
At the end of the day, we did not end up closing until Wednesday afternoon, 7/29. Did I mention that Fremont Bank reached out to our Insurance and activated the policy on the property on Monday, 7/27?
Our biggest issue is the lack of communication. We would call, leave messages and follow up with emails - all specifically asking for a call back, and would NOT get a call back. I do not understand why it was so difficult to reach Jeanine on the phone or actually get a phone call back. I understand she needs to track things in writing with email and that is fine - she could easily call then send a follow up email summarizing the conversation to keep it all in writing. If she would have at least returned phone calls and kept us up to date on what was going on, I think the majority of these issues could have been mitigated.
Not being able to reach her, not getting calls back - especially when we very specifically asked to be called back, and not being kept up-to-date until there was a problem made the issues much worse and more than frustrating.
I would like to give a positive shout out and THANK YOU to Assistant Bank Manager, Elena Silva, who when I was finally at my wits end and called the bank, actually answered the phone, called back AND followed up.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Drew S.Oakland, CA050May 12, 2020
Very strange experience. I dealt with John Mach who was weird and confrontational. So far I have had very pleasant experience with every HELOC broker I have spoken to. Not John. Not sure what the problem is but I would love to be able leave less than one star.
