I am 6 months into practicing at Hot House Yoga. Years ago I had tried it and at that time it wasn't for me, but I am so glad I tried it again because I LOVE it now. I appreciate that they offer classes from 6am until the evening as it makes getting there easier with all the options. I also like that they offer a monthly membership rate as well as a variety of class cards with expiration dates far enough out you know you'll be able to use them in time. Between what my body can or cannot do that day and the different personalities of the teachers I find comfort in the fact that each type of class is the same practice sequence every time.

in 2018, I went to my first hot yoga class at the Norfolk studio and I was so impressed with everything about this studio and the practice. Here's the thing - the studio has a very sophisticated HVAC (heating and air flow/filtering system). I don't think I have found another hot yoga studio that provides that level of air quality during practice. Equally important are the people, the staff who check you in and the yoga instructors. Honestly, someone suggested I try hot yoga and I thought there was no way I'd make it through a class. Now, here we are 2023, and I am still practicing at Hot House Yoga. There are many health benefits when you add hot yoga to your practice. Yoga was transforming for me, and I took it up later in life. Then I tried hot yoga and I am very grateful that I found a clean and beautiful place to practice. Thank you Hot House Yoga. Namaste.

I'm doing the 2 week Challenge and waited to at least do my 5th day to really get a feel for hot house.
What I love about Hot house is that they're more structured and have more information before you get into heated yoga practice. Although an added charge, they have a road map of postures online that you'll be going through and give you insight as well as modifications if you're just starting out, it's great for beginners as well as advanced practitioners that might want to go back and review. Knowing this helped me feel less awkward and to just focus on my postures. The classes are consistent when it comes to poses. Hot house yoga room is organized with dots that you align your mat with and what's great is that they play music while you practice the poses.
Beginner = Stability classes
More Experienced = Hot Flow
Hot house yoga, is and can be spiritual (I mean yoga itself is spiritual), I hear people say that it feels good and yes I get a good runners high at the end but I still feel like a loose noodle and not so much a stiff pretzel (which is a good thing).
What I like about doing heated yoga is that it's a life changing (how do they say it...) paradigm shift. The only thing that I can possibly see Hot house improve upon is probably adding a sauna/steam room to quickly acclimate before the class. It's a challenge in the beginning but that's just me because I enjoy winter more.
They have Mat and towel rentals. They offer a good line of yoga products which is with Manduka. I've had a Manduka mat and towel for years and they last a long time. The classes are flexible and affordable which is great.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Monica Q.Charleston, SC111612Dec 6, 2022
I went here the other day and had an amazing experience from start to finish. I was scrolling through the different yoga studios around town, and found hot house yoga at a time that the heated flow was the perfect solution to the changing temperature and shifting seasons affecting my body and mood. They regulate the temperature well, and the music was upbeat and lively. Shavasana was wonderful especially with a damp towel with lavender oil made the escape from such a warm place a little bit smoother. I wish I had more money, so that I could enroll in some of their classes, but until then, I thought it was great that they offered free mat, blocks, and towel rental for those of us that don't have or didn't bring our own props. I believe their a family owned business and the studio definitely emulates that. Very good experience overall!

So I waited until I took about 6 classes to write a review on this place...I absolutely love it. Their current special is okay. $49 for two weeks unlimited and then half off the first month of whichever plan you decide to choose. So essentially I paid $100 for a month and a half of unlimited yoga, which is pretty good...especially for it being unlimited.
The place itself is so clean and has every amenity one could need. You forgot your mat, yoga towel, shower towel, hair tie, or to brush your teeth?? You're covered! Lol. They have everything you could dream of. On top of that the place is gorgeous and everyone is so friendly...I always worry about people being uptight at yoga studios (sounds odd, but I've experienced it)
Thus far I have taken all Stability classes with Meg, Deborah, and Jennifer O and all the classes were enjoyable. They really give you personal attention to make sure you're giving it your all for your poses and are properly aligned. The girls at the front desk are so professional and courteous.
Trying the VB location tonight for the Flow class! I'll write another review there!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Carlon B.Tempe, AZ1113529Apr 24, 2019
I was in town for only 3 days but didn't want to mess up my flow, so I purchased the "out of towner" pass for $50. Which, was actually a fair deal since the drop in price was $20/class. The pass also included Matt and towel rental/usage, a very good bargain.
The studio set up was simple: small lobby with seating, small area where they sold apparel/mats/accessories, locker rooms and the main studio.
The locker room was really nice, with ample space and cubbies for personal storage. The showers were huge and had shampoo and conditioner.
The actual room where the class takes place was solid. A nice size, four rows for plenty of yogi's to practice. I liked the fact they had markers on the floor for you to place your mat and see the distance between you and the next person.
The heat was at a nice temperature, and the instructors were good. The only thing I will say, don't do any headstands, they don't allow it lol. Other than that, if you're in town, and need a studio, this is the place to go.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gouthum K.Naples, FL1243Nov 13, 2017
Teresa lead an incredible Hot Flow Candlelight 75 session Sunday evening November 2017. What made it great were the union of people all working together to practice Yoga. Normally I do not really feel the flow as a famous rapper one said, but this class surpassed my usual reticence. Although no one can ever really know how much of the world is our own emotional perception, when an instructor can subordinate herself enough to encourage unification you have potential.
God Bless her and this practice.
Om-
PS-It is not five stars because I have not take enough classes to make an educated opinion about her or the studio. However I am at 2/3 classes being 5 stars right now.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Khalessi R.Norfolk, VA0110Oct 8, 2017Updated review
Updating my review. Since I last checked in some pretty wack things have happened.
1. I WOULD LOVE A RESPONSE. Studio is doing a charity challenge. The charity, Hot house donates 1 (yes 1! ) oyster for every class you attend and they double it if you do all 21 days.
Ok so I am an unlimited member, sign me up. Oh wait we charge you 10$ to participate!? WTF WTF WTF. JUST FYI hot house 10$ buys you 1000$ baby oysters, even if they are full grown they cost around 50 cents a a bar to buy and eat. So I give you ten bucks which then you give some of it to charity.
CHARGING PEOPLE FOR YOUR CHARITY IS WACK AS EFF!!!!! Hot house I DEMAND a response to this post as to why you are being too wack with the charity.
2. They go rid of level 2 and 90 minute flows in Norfolk. Why would you get rid of level 2 Yax? Besides the crappy time that only allowed stay at home moms to attend. level 2 should of stayed.
3.. Got rid of the second practice room at Virginia Beach to make an office to count their money.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 22, 2016Previous reviewVery big fan. But since my fans hang on my every word... I will be as honest as I can be. I have been practicing here for a long time. And here are the pros and cons
Con: Only one level 2 class at 930 on Friday. Only accessible to yoga mom, the unemployed, and people with unconventional working hours. (PLEASE I BEG YOU PUT A LVL 2 AT A TIME ALL CLIENTS CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OFF)
Pro: If you get a chance to go to a John or Chris class GO! They are terrific, have a great cadence for instructors and are extremely knowledgeable. Also they are extremely generous with their time.
Con: Not so generous with their towels. Starting August slip mats are gonna be 1$ and 1$ for the towels. So not the biggest deal, but bring your own starting august.
Pro: Other instructors are awesome too! But besides Zoe they don't stay! Zoe is great, voice is audible chocolate. haha probably not, but she is terrific and has a great cadence. Leigh Anne was great too, WTF happened to her! Sam was awesome also gone. Kasia, if you can take her, she also has bomb class; and Deborah is really good.
Con: Besides the level two flows, Kasia's class, and candlelights there is not a whole lot of variety. The same basic flow and stability class.
Pro: The same classes adds to consistency and reliability between instructors. I found myself actually enjoying the predictability as I am able to keep growing in my practice through repetition. So take that as you will.
Con: Some instructors don't have the best cadence and are robotic sounding. Additionally, modification doesn't feel welcomed. Some instructors seem, at times, a little hostile to you breaking the flow or modifying the routine, in anyway. But, no biggie do it anyway its your flow and no one is gonna call you out by name... only subliminally.
Pro: Facilities are friggin' excellent. BEST FACILITIES I've seen in a yoga studio. Clean and upscale. 4 thumbs up there.
Con: Mirror Nazi's. I am kinda guilty here too. But some of the best practitioners who don't need the mirrored wall for their inversions still take it anyway. I do it too, sorry everyone.
ALL IN ALL GREAT STUDIO GO CHECK IT OUT! llama stay! - Alex K.North Andover, MA0120Aug 8, 2016
Hot house is the best !

I've been practicing at Hot House Yoga for over 9 years. I first tried it on the recommendation of my chiropractor in 2008. I practice there nearly every day and I can honestly say that my practice has been truly life changing in so many ways. I am 1" taller (no kidding - spinal decompression) and my resting pulse is 8 beats/minute lower. Under the supervision of my physician, I have been able to reduce or eliminate several prescription medications (for depression, hypertension, and high cholesterol). At 55 years old, my physical and mental health have never been better. I am a happier, healthier, more balanced, and more compassionate person. My friends, family, and coworkers see the difference and I feel it every day.
Yoga at Hot House is accessible to all people and the diversity of student/clients is one of the coolest things about practicing there. The classes are ingeniously designed so that it can be as gentle and restorative or as challenging and invigorating as you choose - you are in the driver's seat with expert guidance provided by the very best teachers.
The Yax family are the amazing people behind Hot House Yoga and Yax Yoga Concepts. They radiate authenticity and integrity - what you see is what you get, always - so refreshing. They are clearly genuinely concerned with the well being of others. This is so evident in how they teach yoga, how they structure the sequence of postures for the classes, develop their teachers and staff, conduct the business as a calling to serve the community, but most importantly, the way they treat other people - with respect and kind attention, always.
Practicing at Hot House has taught me that yoga is not about flexible, athletic, thin, beautiful people twisting their bodies into impossible poses. Yoga is real people with real bodies that come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and levels of ability, coming together as a community to do the real work of improving mind, body, and spiritual health through conscious movement and breathing. Undertaking a consistent practice of yoga has given me a better life. Doing it at Hot House has given me the added benefit of a mature, caring community of mindful, loving souls to join me and support me on my journey.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
