OMG! This is my very favorite mexican restaurant. Wish we lived closer so we could go more often. We've been to both locations. Highly recommend both. Drinks are yummy, specifically love their flautas..yes, flautas!! Get on over there!

Disappointed by Portion Size for Takeout

We ordered the Kalaka Molcajete to go, expecting it to be enough for two people, as suggested by the price ($32) and the in-house presentation. While we were aware that it wouldn't come in the traditional bowl, we assumed the portion size would still be comparable. Unfortunately, it was not--the serving was absolutely pathetic, especially the sides.

The taste of the food was great, but for the price, we expected a much more substantial meal. Instead, we each finished our portions within minutes and were left feeling unsatisfied. If you're dining in, this might be worth it, but for takeout, we wouldn't order it again.

I rushed and didn't take a great photo, but the rice was in the same size container as the beans...

This place caught my eye, after reading Matt's review. I went there because of Al Pastor wings, but decided to get their big ass breakfast burrito instead, and it was delicious! My wife had the breakfast tacos and our friend chose the Huevos Rancheros. All of the food was great (especially the guacamole), and so was the service. I also had a NA drink which was great! This location is adjacent to Call to Arms brewery and it has a nice, cozy ambiance.
I plan to return and order the Al Pastor wings and to try their dinner menu. Great addition to the Tennyson area!!

we stopped by on our holiday for some happy hour drinks. The margaritas were on the sour side and my personal fave. The chips and salsa were delicious if a little planned. Salsa weren't super spicy. The service was super friendly.

Have seen Kalaka before in Berkeley but haven't been able to try it out until now. Kalaka shares the same building with Call to Arms Brewing. As a result, you can order from Kalaka's and eat it at Call to Arms. They have a QR menu at the tables in Call to Arms to advertise this. The menu is expansive ranging from shareable apps of wings, nachos, fries to family meals, to single street tacos. I ordered the Asada and Chicken Tacos. They were good - I've had worse and I've had better street tacos. The order was ready pretty quickly and was fun to eat Kalaka while sipping on beer from Call to Arms. Would go again.

Ordered from Kalaka while visiting the neighboring brewery. Used the online menu to place a quick order for some tacos to go. Food was ready quickly but did not come packaged with utensils and napkins so my friend had to go back for those items since the tacos were filled with ingredients and a little messy. Our tacos did have nice spice and flavor. My fish taco had a good size piece of fish with a sweet jalapeño glaze and chipotle sauce. The Al Pastor taco was good, just way too many onions and there was no grilled pineapple as described on the menu. Overall, ok for street tacos.

This place is so cute! They have an indoor and outdoor patio that you can sit at. We were sat right by the large openings to the patio, which allowed us to get some natural light and fresh air. We ordered drinks and food from our server, who was welcoming and happy to make recommendations. The drinks were great! We also did a margarita flight, which was delightful and very aesthetic. The food was also great! The salsa sampler was spicy and kept us reaching for more. Definitely plan to return!

So good! When we sat down at Call to Arms we were stoked for Mexican next door. We ordered right from our table and got a variety of street tacos. The nachos and the guac...out of this world.

An astounding Mexican food place. The maiz was a wonderful appetizer and the tacos would bring me back again and again. Unfortunately their Mexican salad could have used a bit more ingredientes for the price, a bummer but when adding the beef, everything aligned. Our waited was quick and educated and all of their seating looked perfect.
