Lazy parents block the roads in the morning to let their kids out in the morning. Really try and stay patient but one day dun dunk.

Irvine seems to make headlines regularly as being one of the safest cities in America. This is in part due to its affluent population, but it can also be attributed as well to it being a planned city. As such, many of the communities in Irvine are gated residential areas which provide even more security. One of these communities is Northpark. I stayed with some family who live here on my recent visit to SoCal.

Northpark is located very close to the Irvine-Tustin border. It is in short driving distance to The Market Place and I-5. And is situated close to major city streets including Culver Drive and Irvine Boulevard. There are a couple neighborhood shopping centers in walking distance including Northpark Plaza and Orchard Hills.

To enter Northpark by car, you need to pass through one of the community gates. There is one entrance for residents and one for visitors. If you are visiting, you have to provide information on who you are visiting. Security then contacts the resident before letting you in. If entering by foot, there are a couple doors by the gate to enter. But a key isn't necessary.

The architecture of this community is a mix of styles (French Country, Formal French, Italian Country, Formal Italian, Monterey and Spanish Colonial), so all of the homes don't all look the same. Though neighboring homes do look somewhat similar. Inside Northpark, there is also numerous recreation centers which includes BBQ areas and pools. So while Irvine is full of parks, you don't need to leave Northpark if you don't want to.

I really was impressed with how pleasant Northpark was to live in my short stay there. It is conveniently located, so long as you have a car. The public transportation system is not good in this area and the OC in general. Though if you can afford to live here, it would be presumed that you can afford a car as well. Northpark is a great place to live, particularly for families with kids given its location, many amenities and security.

I've lived in this gated community for the last 5 years.

It's a very safe, nice, quaint gated community. The utilities here involve over 3 large pools with fully functional Gas BBQ grills - which have been a life saver to me since I love to cook and grill meats and don't have a grill at home. Other utilities involve a club-house - which you can book for birthday parties - and numerous basketball courts.

I love some of my neighbors. Others are just eery and don't talk to anyone. It's a hit or miss. Meh, it's ok. One thing that is slightly annoying is how uptight and strict the community is. One time I parked my car in front of my garage just so I can grab my shoes and one of the neighbors complained which led to us receiving a phone call from the community asking us to move it. This is extremely annoying and unacceptable. I should be able to park my car in front of my house for a few
minutes without having a rude, up tight neighbor complain. Incidents like this annoy me. Other than that I have no complaints. Some of my neighbors are fantastic!

Although I'm not a resident here, I attended meetings in their clubhouse room several times and always found the facilities to be nice and very well maintained.

I was also a guest once in one of the pool areas, and again it was apparent that the association did an excellent job in maintaining the pool area.

The security people were always polite when coming to visit and did make sure that the resident gave permission for the guests.

My only complaint is that nearly all the residents treat the roads leading into the entrance gates as their own personal drag strips, as if the delay in clicking through the resident lane of the entrance were delaying a fire truck on the way to a flaming inferno. Slow down people. Driving 40 in 15 zone isn't just discourteous, it's dangerous...

I lived here for 9months, and found the neighbors to be secretive and surly. Many looked exceptionally shady, and probably used the gated community to hide from enemies they had wronged. I am not such a person, and so moved out to protect my reputation. Plus I felt like a prize sucker paying a recurring $100 fee to park in front of my own home.

I was born and raised here and this is a very honest review from the perspective of a child and adult. This is a very family friendly neighborhood and growing up, I had many opportunities to play with other kids. The pools and parks are fun and everything seemed very safe and normal. As I grew up, I noticed how pretentious neighbors can be. Living in a nice and pricy area like this, a lot of parents can be annoying and super strict whether its parking or noise complaints that weren't caused by anything major. Security cars drive around the neighborhood nearly everyday so everything is pretty safe, and police cars will drive around the area once in awhile. Ive accidentally left my front door unlocked and opened slightly multiple times and absolutely nothing has happened. There are like four parks around the neighborhood so you will always be in a close distance from one. The guards at the gates are always friendly whenever a friend dropped me off and I had to go through the visitors side. Also, driving in an area like this, you have to be very careful as there are children EVERYWHERE. Most cross the street normally whether they're walking or riding something like a bike, but once in awhile some kids would start running into the street. The community is actually connected to Hicks Canyon Elementary School's backgate meaning parents don't have to go through the gates just to drop of their child at the front, they can simply take them to the backgate which is located right next to the main entrance of the community. This is a normal public school so five out of seven days a week, there will be parents and little kids everywhere. There are many other factors but overall, its a nice neighborhood and Ive always felt safe and there are MANY stores near buy to buy food or simply hang out with friends.

I have lived here for 13 years -- my first home. My last HOA and 1600+ residents whom mostly subscribe to the idea that their needs to double park, add a school entrance to increase our morning traffic, jack up fees so we can have a dedicated onsite recreation lady, and their kids trespass to the other associations to jump the walls, grind on subassociation curbs, and be a general nuisance is quite rampant. Add to this the horrendous association and subassociation fees and I oftentimes wonder what the allure is...oh yes. You feel safe behind the gates that break down often. It's an okay place to live but it's nothing stellar. My next home will be used but have a yard and NO MELLO ROOS.

Great place to live in irvine. We've met a lot of friends at the jacuzzi and it's a great place for kids. Excellent family atmosphere and great location to shopping and school.

      Update.
Now they don't care what time it is. Even at 6 -7 pm they don't stop their obsession towards grass cutting. Plus these birds dont know how to stop chirping. (Literally 24 hours non stop even after 1 am.
