Great guys and the ONLY remaining radio shack dealer in the country! The owner bought out their display units when they went out of business, and was a great call...for me as a guitar pedal and amp builder...those clean displays for tiny little parts like capacitors and resistors were HUGELY helpful. I hope these guys stick around!

I called ahead and then drove over an hour to see if he could check out an issue I had with at old Marshall head. I no sooner walked in he said "nope, not even going to look at it". Thanks for the memories son. It worked out for the better though because I ended up at British Audio in Nashville and had 5 star service.

OMG! This place is a joke. I don't know who's writing these reviews, but there is NO WAY these clowns should own a business. Their inventory is junk. They are so out of their league that it's almost entertaining. (Almost). As soon as I walked in, I thought I was in some dirty homeless persons hole in the woods. The guitars are better quality at the Goodwill store. Do yourself a favor and keep on driving by this shameless sham of a business. You'll thank me. Good Luck!

hi, we are very sorry to hear about your experience. we would of gave you a free pack of strings if you feel your time was wasted. we Fix and Mod guitar and amps. and also do studio recordings. we are not packed full of inventory at this present time. More of a designated repair center. sorry to let you down. i am writing to make sure this review is in fact for the Old Hickory, TN location. i see your location is CA- and there is also a Superior Music Publishing there. that is not us. and this mistake has been commonly made in the past. kindly, Alex: Superior Music

I took a vintage amp to Superior Music for a tune up and to fix a minor problem with one of the inputs. Terry, the so-called and self-proclaimed "Amp Doctor," could not solve the problem with the faulty input and I had to return the amp a few times. Eventually he modified my vintage amp by adding an additional resistor and told me, "All amps have that resistor and it's missing from the schematic." Huh? Really? WTF? I knew immediately that was nonsense and that Terry is one of those electronics cowboys who knows just enough to be dangerous. A quick Google search turned up no information about a "missing" resistor nor did adding the resistor solve the problem as I knew it wouldn't.
When I questioned his technique of adding additional parts to vintage equipment he immediately became defensive, contentious, hostile and antagonistic. He actually crawled into a fetal position when I attempted to discuss the issue intelligently in the hope that we could work together to solve the problem. He wanted nothing to do with that. Apparently his ego is too fragile to admit that he may not know all of the answers or can't find the correct solution. The owner Chuck, who appears to know even less about electronics, immediately came to Terry's defense and also became difficult and argumentative.
I tried to work with them by showing them the schematic in the hope that we could remedy the problem with the amp. I just wanted the amp to work correctly but without adding parts that the amp didn't come with and that didn't belong. They weren't too keen on someone pointing out that their technique is a band-aid and not a solution nor did their band-aid change the problem in any way, let alone solve it. They did not want to solve the problem and told me that they would no longer work on my equipment. I had brought in another amp and they told me to take my amps and that they would not work on them while indicating that I was no longer welcome at Superior Music. When it became evident that I knew their techniques, abilities and knowledge of amps and electronics was questionable and sketchy at best, they told me to take my toys and get out of their sandbox. That's truly how it felt.
Business must be good when you can afford to turn away customers. It was my intention to bring all of my amps to Superior Music for tuneups but that's not going to happen now. That would have meant several hundred dollars of business. Fortunately this is Nashville and there are several folks that truly know about amplifier repair. Superior Music is not one on them. Do not take your equipment there for repair.
The place isn't all bad. Alex at the counter is cool and they have some Radio Shack parts that are hard to get since Radio Shack is mostly out of business but I highly advise not to take any amplifiers or other electronic equipment to these folks for repair. I'm sure Terry knows how to swap tubes and clean connectors but I would not trust him for any problems that are out of the ordinary and actually require a knowledge of electronics.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi, it's Alex: I'm very sorry Terry let you down on this particular instance.
When we can't guarantee a repair or warranty them we simply turn them back to the customer. that specific amp we gave a few tries on and it just didn't work out. as you know from our talk this is our passion and we never aim to upset or let down a customer. I do hope you come back sometime. I personally feel just as bad about your amp experience as you do.

This is a great little shop with some cool used gear and a fairly regularly rotating stock. I've scored some cool old pieces here. There is also old radio shack style stock here too for all you DIY folks and Hi-Fi needs. Picks, capos, strings, friendly staff. I drop by whenever I have free time and also follow their Reverb store to see whats new.

Bad selection of gear, creepy staff that seemed uninterested in helping. I wanted to buy local so badly but I won't go back.

Hi,
I am very sorry to hear about your past experiences. right before the pandemic the store had a lot of management changes along with different employees that did not live up to our expectation's. Since, we have new friendly ready to help employees on staff.
we have picked up several brands since your stop in to expand gear. however please keep in mind we are a designated repair center with our focus going into amp and guitar repairs / Mods. our gear has expanded but is still not as large as some other select retail stores.
Feel free to stop by anytime for what should be a more pleasant experience for you.
kindly,
Alex : Management. - Jeremy H.TN, TN010Jul 29, 2021
Super helpful for all things guitar! Do not confuse this place with Superior Music PUBLISHING in CA. Their reviews don't apply to this store.

Terrible customer service. No response after days and my order was never received. Writing it off as a loss.

I brought my bass in to have tuning machines replaced and set up. In the process they cracked the headstock most of the way up. But he did not attempt to properly fix it. Instead he just screwed the tuning machines in. On top they didn't even tell me it had happened. I noticed it as soon as I pulled it out of the case and there response was "We didn't think you would care cause it wouldnt affect how it's played." They seemed confused as to why I was upset about my headstock being split almost in half. Than an employee made bizarre threats before storming out while the other guys explained that the screws should hold it together and it's not a big deal...do not go here for any business as all

The old saying is true, The best lesson is a bought lesson. They are way overpriced, bad store hours, and only ok service. save your time and money shop at sam ash or guitar center they have way better prices, hours, and service.
