Honestly the saddest excuse for a campsite I have ever seen these past few years... Banff is a NATIONAL Park, it should be an example of how people all over Canada and the world get to experience what Canada's nature has to offer. Instead it has turned into a sorry excuse for a money grabbing extravaganza.
The price has absolutely sky rocketed over the years, campsites are never cleaned, and snow removal seems to be non existent except for the main drive. The fire permit fee is mandatory even if you're not having a fire, and the wood is always, wet, rotten, or never properly dried in the first place.
The showers have been under construction for the last two off-seasons, with no sign of anyone even working on them. Instead of a quick fix in the spring or fall, parks decides to capitalize on summer reservations, turn their profit, and not actually put it back into it facilities in a timely manner.
At this point, Parks is pushing tourism to park illegally in Banff, as all they really offer is a washroom and there are several public ones readily available in the town.
Parks Canada should be ashamed. This is a sad, sad excuse for a federally funded government agency. Check yourself.

      I really enjoyed this campground.

The weather was less than ideal, but I was happy for sheltered and warm showers and flush toilets.

      Spectacular views!
The campground is more of a really nice parking lot. You drive up to your spot like you're parking on the curb in front of your house. It's easy. But. If you're big on site privacy there is really not so much here.

      Walking distance to Banff townsite.
Mostly. It depends on what kind of walking or no walking you want to do. It's a good walk through the campsite, down along the road then a set of stairs. And you're there. No worries about parking in the townsite.

Great hike to Banff from campground Tunnel 2 area: downhill to town recommend hiking sticks if you are prone to falling on your butt. Some areas with small round stones that get me all the time without a stick. went up road from tunnel 2 via hoodoo trail and liked the solitude. was over 4.8 km to get to downtown at trails end had to go downhill on path near road to reach pedestrian bridge to downtown which added to hike by about.5 km. but was easy and had great view o f Bow Falls and old hotel. would recommend bus back to campsite. we explored Banff by foot and loved it

Camped at: Tunnel Mountain Village I

      Dates camped: 9/2/17-9/4/17

Price: around $70 US dollars for 2 nights (This included a fire permit to have a campfire, but there was a fire ban when we went, so they refunded me $14, so technically it cost me around $56 for 2 nights camping)

      Dogs allowed!

Alcohol ban in effect the weekend we went as well.

I think our site # was G21. I picked this campground because it had showers. The showers were free and convenient to use, but there's only 2 in each women and men's restrooms. So sometimes there was a line. They were a lil muddy, but clean enough.

We just needed a place to sleep, because besides that we didn't spend too much time at the campgrounds. We were always out exploring the mountains and lakes. It's a regular national park campsite in that each campsite is right next to each other, so you will definitely be close to your neighbors.

There were 2 sinks that ppl used to do dishes and get water. There were also trash cans but they were overly full. Ppl need to learn to throw their trash in the big dumpsters if they have a kitchen trash sized bag! Overall, we had a good experience camping here. No bear run ins.

Review for Tunnel Mountain 1 as there isn't a yelp page for it.

I totally underestimated the size and beauty of this campground. Add in II next door and this area is massive. 600 campsites in the area, lots of natural trees that still draw wildlife in, this is a great choice for a campground. If you want to maximize the "glamping" experience the towns public bus transportation system runs into the middle of the grounds for pickup. It's free down and only a $2 ride back up. The toilets and shower areas are kept fairly clean and quiet even amongst all the people in each section.
Included in the nightly rate is firewood which is piled in one parking lot and is unlimited.
I suggest a spot backed up to the trees for a more private spot otherwise shortcuts to the showers might run next to your pad.

This was a great campsite, very large and plenty of trees. The wildlife is very abundant here as well, more so then what you will see while hiking. The only thing I would change would be to add more then two showers for the amount of people that were staying there.. as well as another sink to do dishes as there was only ONE for the ENTIRE camp ground. But fire wood was free - Bonus!

      First to Review

We stayed here in summer of 2008. I rolled the dice with this one, not knowing where to park the RV in Banff.

      First the plusses:
      *The scenery is awesome.
*There are hiking trails across the road.
*The city bus picks up right in front.

      The minuses:
*It is a little hard to find.
*They could not find our reservation, in spite of calling in advance.
*The campsite is little more than a turnout with a picnic table.
      *Not a lot of privacy.
*This is a huge place, easy to get lost.

In all, it did the trick for a couple nights. I would look elsewhere if returning in the future to try and find a campsite with a bit more privacy.

Stayed for one night at Tunnel Mountain Village I. It's a vast campsite for tent/ car camping only. Firewood, showers, bathrooms, dish sinks available.

Pros: clean facilities. Large sites (if you like that). 10 minutes to downtown.

Cons: you're very close with your neighbors. Privacy is limited. Very little shade in the actual site. Busy & noisey!!

Great campground right in town in Banff. The sites are a little unusual in that you parallel park along the access road, but there was plenty of space for our 43' motor coach. They only offer power, but they do have a very convenient water and dump station near the entrance. The bathrooms and showers were located in many places around the park and clean. We loved our stay at the park and highly recommend it. See our full review and pictures at www.thegilliamsisland.com.

Stayed at TM Village I (AUG 2016) and it was a nice camp location. Shower/washrooms were definitely old and quite dirty but otherwise nice camping facility. Staff were super nice & we'd highly recommend getting the fire permit.

Easy to reach Banff city centre (ideal if the weather is a bit finicky) and backcountry trails. They had activities for kids and a campground theatre.

The staff patrolled heavily as wildlife sometimes visits the campers :)
