Went on a Saturday evening. Interior is more upscale and decor is cute.
We started with the house bread and caesar salad. Would definitely recommend both! The bread came with truffle butter which was delicious and had so much cheese on top. A great start to the meal. This caesar is more unique than we were expecting. It had avocado and egg in it too. It was delicious, we were just momentarily confused as it what we ordered.
For mains, I split the seafood chitarra and the agnolotti di spinaci. I liked the seafood chitarra much more, especially the little scallop pieces in the dish. The shrimp included wasn't my favorite, but all around a solid dish. The agnolotti was too rich for me. I'm glad I split it, because I couldn't have finished it myself. I did really enjoy the shallots included here and would have liked more spinach in the dish.
The star of the show was the espresso martini! It was gorgeous and tasted as good as it looks. The cream on top was sweet, but not overly so. Would return just for this drink!
Once we got our food, we weren't really checked on very frequently so I was unable to try another drink, but there are quite a few cocktails that sound great.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Becky N.Oxnard, CA1573033Mar 4, 2025

Ummo lived up to all of my expectations and more. I was tasked in finding a restaurant to have a birthday dinner with friends. So, after some research and previewing pictures of their appealing dishes and stunning interior, I became excited to bring my friend to this place.
The space was open and beautifully done, and were met with welcoming service. The few drinks we ordered were delicious, and the food did not take long to come out. We shared and were able to try every dish. Each dish was delicious and had its own unique flavor. Afterwards, our server brought out a complimentary birthday cake for our friend, and it was actually very enjoyable way to end our meal.
Once we were done with dinner we were able to explore the upstairs lounge area which had plenty of seating, a bar, a pool table, and lots of photo ops.
We had a great time and highly recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - May 8, 2025
Stopped by Ummo for happy hour on a Wednesday evening and couldn't recommend it enough! It was a little slow, which was nice because I could hear my friend and we had no issue getting a seat at the bar. I would imagine the other days may be a bit more crowded. I ordered an espresso martini and it was out of this world! There was a huge dollop of homemade whipped cream on top which perfectly melted into the drink as i drank it. If you don't like sweet or dairy, I would request no whipped cream.

Really enjoyed eating here. Every dish was really well done and not your typical Italian eatery which was refreshing. We decided to share a bunch of plates between 3 of us and everything we got to try was tasty. The mortadella is really interesting - shaved slices on top of a deep fried gnocchi filled with ricotta cheese with balsamic glaze drizzled. All the flavors and textures worked incredibly well together. The cacio e pepe was also good but I would have preferred more black pepper since it was a bit light on that end. The branzino was the star of the evening as it was perfectly cooked and the sauces and toppings complemented the fish perfectly as there were notes of saltiness from the capers mixed with the creaminess of the sauce along with the tang of picked carrots and onions. Best dish of the night by far. The roasted carrots were also no slouch and highly recommended.
The space is a cross between a jazz lounge and Italian trattoria which sounds weird but kind of works. It's fun and casual which is a plus. Service was also great - quick and friendly. Prices were fair and we had a great time. So far our venture into Chicago food has been really really good.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 26, 2025
I recently tried Ummo with a couple of girlfriends on a Saturday night and the experience was great! We had a reservation made and the checkin process was fairly easy.
Once seated, we ordered espresso martinis and Sole Rosa 22 which was a tequila based drink. The drinks were amazing, I just wasn't a fan of the espresso martinis glasses as it did not look aesthetically that great! We then ordered Arancini, Avocado burrata and Fettuccini to share. The Avocado burrata was definitely my favorite, it was very creamy and tasted good with the sour bread it is served with. Fettuccini was also a good surprise as I was expecting something more creamy, but irrespective it was good!
The food, service and drinks are good at Ummo! It is a tad bit expensive but worth your penny, give this place a try!Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 1 - Mar 16, 20251 check-in
My partner took me to Ummo for a delightful Birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! The food was incredible, service was excellent, and the ambience was lovely. They have a great Mocktail and appetizer selection. The waiter had tons of knowledge about how each dish was prepared, which I appreciated. My favorite part of the meal was the roasted carrots, which was a bit surprising, but they were absolutely delicious. We ordered the Ummo Ferrero for dessert and they also brought out a little cake for my birthday with a candle in it - both were very tasty.

I've been to Ummo twice--once for brunch and once for dinner. The desserts caught my eye online, but note that many aren't available during brunch. The Egg Raviolo Carbonara was the standout--delicious and rich--and I really enjoyed the Carpaccio di Polpo. However, the Cacio e Pepe was overly peppery and under-salted, and the Lobster Pasta was surprisingly bland. Dessert presentation is stunning, but only the Tiramisu really delivered; the Pomodoro e Basilico is definitely for adventurous palates. Beautiful space and great service, but overall, I wasn't blown away.

Stopped by Ummo for drinks and was impressed by the upscale ambiance--perfect for a first date or a classy night out. One downside is not many vegetarian options--there was confusion with the dish we were served and it was delivered with meat, but the manager immediately took it back without charge. My cocktail was on the sweeter side, so ask for recommendations if that's not your preference.
Looking forward to coming back to try their full menu. A stylish addition to River North!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 27, 2024
Service here was correct and dishes came surprisingly fast. Staff was helpful when picking out seasonal items. If you are upstairs in the bar area, it turns into a music lounge in the evening and can be a great way to continue your night without moving around.
Deserts were good and pasta was decently prepared. Would to return to try more!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1
