Solid (1)Michael’s 3-star review: Food, Service, and Ambiance are what make a restaurant, in that order. Unfortunately, this new restaurant fell short. I'm a big foodie and spend a lot dining at top restaurant in the city regularly so I was excited to try this new black-owned, upscale, southern restaurant in old city. I love to support my people, but Amina has some kinks to work out. The Good: The 3 dishes we did try were enjoyable; Catfish hush puppies, Caesar Salad, Cheesesteak Beignets, but they ran out of dinner items so we cut our night short The OK: The waitstaff needs a bit more training, everyone was generally pleasant, but it's the little things that matter (e.g., introduce yourself before you ask for my order) The Bad: Sadly, we didn't get to fully enjoy dinner because they ran out of Gumbo at 5:45 pm, for a restaurant open from 4-11 that's unacceptable. I came in part for that particular dish, so we decided to leave only eating appetizers. They easily lost over $100 because we cancelled both entrees, and subsequently decided against sides and desserts They served stale dinner rolls with butter packets instead of the cornbread they have been serving for weeks. Not only was I appalled at the quality of the bread, but I haven't seen wrapped butter served at a restaurant since my high schools days eating at Olive Garden & Chili's. This is a no-no at even a mid-tier restaurant The entrance is crowded and there is no where for parties to stand while waiting for a table, I was practically in someone's lap, but was seated promptly Overall, I'm rooting for them and will give it another try sometime in the future (something I normally wouldn't do)

Amazing (1)Michael’s 5-star review: Flavorful and filling plate of food, what else do I need. Pleasant workers and great music in this no frills establishment. Steak Suya Bowl, jollof rice, cabbage, white sauce, cornbread, and plantains is the way to go -

Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: Vibe is exceptional, speakeasy door, dimly lit cherry wood interiors, and knowledgeable staff. Overall the meal was top notch, but some dishes were better than others. Primarily the mains, sides, and desserts Drinks - No. 112, No. 21, Tawny Port. No. 112 is a great drink, just get it Appetizers - Caesar Salad & Gulf Prawn. Both I would skip, the salad dressing was not good, too tart and not well balanced. Gulf Prawn we're suggested by the waiter, but needed an extra pinch of salt and we're slightly over cooked. No complimentary bread, but I guess that's better for my waistline. Entrees - Beef Wellington & King Salmon. I came for the Wellington and it was exceptional!!! I would return just for this dish. Soft filet cooked perfectly, crepe was crispy, buttery, and rich, and the mushrooms and bordelaise rounded out the dish. King Salmon was executed beautifully Sides - Onion Rings & Pomme Puree. Onion rings also needed a bit more salt, but the crispy exterior and sweet interior paired with the aioli made me keep going for more. Pomme Purée was smooth and delicious Dessert - We were stuffed but got the Baked Alaska & Chocolate Cake. Alaska was made with a lemon sorbet which was refreshing and the cake was decadent and rich. A great way to end the evening Overall: Drinks - 5/5 Caesar Salad - 2/5 Gulf Prawn - 2/5 Beef Wellington - 5/5 King Salmon - 5/5 Onion Rings - 4/5 Pomme Purée - 5/5 Baked Alaska - 5/5 Chocolate Cake - 5/5 -

The cheese and sauce were both on the bland side, just seemed like something was missing. The dough/crust was fresh, but given the strong competition in the city I won't be back. -

Amazing (1)Michael’s 5-star review: Homey neighborhood BYOB with great service. Our waiter was super cool and personable! You can tell the owners care about ensuring the diners have an enjoyable meal. The taste of Kanella is a great deal! Meze - Lentil Kofte, Hummus, Seared Halloumi, Cyprus Potatoes, and a Tzatziki (on the house which was much appreciated), and Pita. All were delicious, but the Halloumi and Cyprus Potatoes were a particular favorite. At this point we were starting to get stuffed which was scary because we were just getting started. Main- Adana Kebab (Ground lamb) and Chicken Shish were both wonderful plates, but the lamb is a must get! Desserts - Kunefe & Baklava, the Kunefe was hard to release from the pan, and the baklava was tasty -
Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: Standard Cannoli was over the top good! I should've ordered a few more. The vanilla and chocolate cream tart was pretty good, but wouldn't get it again. Can't wait to check out some of the other pastries from this long-standing bakery -
Amazing (1)Michael’s 5-star review: Small BYOB providing a unique experience you can only find in PA. Dutch PA cuisine takes you on a trip to the past. The service was top notch and the food was outstanding. Amuse Bouche- Venison scrapple, tasty with a cool presentation Appetizers - Potato Rolls, Pierogi, and Catfish and waffles. The Pierogi and Catfish and waffles are a must get. The pierogis might have been the best I've ever had and the catfish and waffles was an experience, once the server explained the thoughtfulness in the preparation I understood why it was so good Entree - Whole Striped Bass with accompaniments, was cooked perfectly and those mashed potatoes were addictive. The multiple sauces and pickled vegetables rounded out the dish Dessert- Cheesecake Tart & Funnel Cake, the berry cheesecake tart was so good and if I wasn't so full I wanted to devour it on the spot. The funnel cake was your standard fare, coming with a side of jams and sugar Overall Venison Scrapple 4/5 Pierogi - 5/5 Catfish and waffles 5/5 Potato Roll 4/5 Striped Bass and sides 5/5 Cheesecake Tart 5/5 Funnel cake 3/5 -

Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: Great to have a new donut shop in town. Quick service, not much in the way of explanation or excitement that I would expect from a new shop trying to create repeat customers, but I tried the Nutella, Taro, Oreo, and Brown Sugar Milk donuts. Favorites were the Brown Sugar & Oreo. The Nutella just tasted like regular chocolate glaze and the Taro was pretty artificial tasting. I did enjoy the lightness and muted sweetness of this style of donut. I'm interested in trying some of the other flavors -
Amazing (1)Michael’s 5-star review: The kitchen is serving up really great seafood at this Philly mainstay. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the meal. Although the food is great, it's a really loud and open restaurant, so be prepared to yell at each other and don't come here for a private ambiance. Service was fairly attentive, but the servers are visibly busy, so flagging them down might be difficult Appetizers/Small Plates: Fried Calamari, Oysters, & Grilled Broccoli Caesar. Each dish was off the charts! The calamari was perfectly crispy, well seasoned, and the spicy aioli was the perfect dip. The Oysters were plump, fresh, and I would expect nothing less from the namesake. The Grilled Broccoli was next level, perfect char and the dressing and cheese made it sing Entrees: Black Garlic Glazed Halibut & Maryland Crabcake. The Halibut was cooked perfectly, and was on a bed of forbidden rice and bok choy and mushrooms surrounded by the kombu dashi. I could drink that broth all day, and all the textures and flavors worked well without overpowering the halibut. The Crabcake was also really good, a much simpler dish without many bells and whistles but it hit the mark Sides: Can't go wrong with their hand cut fries Dessert: Carrot cake & Lemon meringue tart. They were out of the Apple galette, which was a bummer so early in the day, but the Special dessert of the evening was the carrot cake and it was lick the plate good! The lemon tart, was a little difficult to eat but the curd and meringue were delicious. Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: Located on the second level in the Comcast center, this place is serving up delicious pastries and light fare, just as good as I would expect for a restaurant carrying the Vernick name There is an area where you can purchase coffee and pastries and either stand or sit at the coffee bar like a traditional coffee shop, or a small well decorated restaurant style section to be served by waitstaff. I stopped by for a light lunch and opted to be served. Waitstaff was pleasant, attentive and quick. I had a mocha latte and traditional latte, which come in nifty double walled glass cups. We were also served complimentary Parmesan crisps. I had the Carrot Cake Pie slice and Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake, both were delicious!! I would go back just for those. Finally the butternut squash soup and roasted tomato and pesto focaccia were nothing to sneeze at! -
Solid (1)Michael’s 3-star review: Between the slow service and mediocre food, I would not return. The decor is classic upscale Italian, but they really pack people in there, no where to stand by the bar, no where to wait to be seated. Seats are extremely close and even pre-Covid, I never was a fan of being able to listen in on my neighbors conversation. Unfortunately the food and service was mostly a miss. Appetizers- Complimentary bread is plentiful and delicious, 3 different types (tomato, focaccia, artisan). Calamari is not well seasoned, too chewy, and very lightly fried. Shrimp scampi was tasty, and I could have licked the garlic sauce up Pastas- Rigatoni alla vodka, and Ricotta Tortelloni we're both just ok, the vodka sauce was not exciting, and the small drizzle of balsamic and olive oil on the tortelloni didn't counteract the dryness from the dish Entrees- This is where things fell apart, there was a 40 MINUTE wait between pasta and entree, and had I not flagged down the waiter after 30 min I wouldn't have had any updates. That is completely unacceptable, and when the Chicken Parm arrived, it was under seasoned, and the tomato sauce was bland, what a waste. The side of broccoli rabe was just ok. Dessert- No time for dessert nor did the options look interesting (other than the traditional tiramisu) Overall experience was poor and there was no attempt to make things right Overall 3/5 Complimentary Bread - 5/5 Shrimp Scampi - 4/5 Calamari - 2/5 Rigatoni alla vodka - 3/5 Ricotta Tortelllni - 3/5 Chicken Parm - 2/5 -
Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: I came just for the food and had an overall good experience. Relaxed vibe, and if I had more time, the mini golf and games seems like a fun way to kill some time. Appetizers: Gyoza & Mac & Cheese Bites. The Gyoza was standard, nothing too flashy, but the two dipping sauces were nice. I really enjoyed the Kimchi Mac and Cheese bites with the kimchi marinara Sandwiches: Lamb Kheema Cheesesteak & Apicy Chicken Sando . The cheesesteak was delicious! Everything just worked well together with its Indian influences and the fries were crispy and tasty, it was filling as well. The chicken was sandwich was not as good as the cheesesteak, but we'll executed and juicy. Dessert- Yuzu Cheesecake brownie had great flavors, but the consistency of the brownie was really gooey and underdone Overall: Kimchi Mac & Cheese Bites 5/5 Pan Seared Gyoza 3/5 Lamb Kheema Cheesesteak 5/5 Spicy Chicken Sando 4/5 Yuzu Cheesecake Brownie 3/5 -
Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: Great Italian food and awesome pastries. I arrived on a cold Saturday night ready for something to warm my belly. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive and all of my interactions with the staff during and before dinner was outstanding. They lean more upscale on flavors and ingredients, but it's not a buttoned up atmosphere which is refreshing. On to the food. Note, if you are planning on eating what's on the online menu, you might be surprised because things were quite different in the restaurant, so I had to adjust. Starters - Potato Zeppole and Broccoli Rabe. Both were delicious, zeppole was pillowy soft with a balance of sweetness, spice, and cream from the topping. The rabe was lightly fried making the leaves crispy with cured egg yolk and lentils to balance out the texture. Don't forget the complimentary bread which was served without oil or butter and that type of confidence was spot on, I had to ask for more for the pasta course Pasta- Truffle and Ricotta ravioli was dynamite!, I could eat it all day, I did not think the truffle added much to the dish, it was fine without and cooked to perfection Entrees - Pork Ribs and Hamachi Collar. The ribs were on the sweet side and had a bit more bite than I would prefer, unfortunately this wasn't my first choice main and I wouldn't get it again. However, that Hamachi collar was moist, charred in the right places, and the citrus accompaniment added nice brightness Desserts: Migliaccio and Date chocolate cake. This was my first time trying migliaccio and I'm always excited for that experience, and it was pretty good, albeit a bit grainy for my liking. The Date cake was not enjoyable however, it was apparently soaked in rum to make it moist, but I think it was just over baked and dry. I also tried their morning bun, cookies, donut, and bread pudding which I reserved that morning. Ok (1)Michael’s 3-star review: Maybe I came on an off day, but I have been wanting to try this bakery for some time now after seeing some great photos and was excited that I had some time to stop by. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. I tried both the chocolate crunch croissant and a blueberry scone. The croissant was not flakey and had more of a burger bun consistency, similar to packaged croissants you get from a grocery store. The scone suffered a similar fate, it was most definitely the consistency of a biscuit, it was missing the slight crumble and sweetness of a scone and the blueberries did little to elevate it. I think I'll stick with the other 3-lettered bakery in Old City -

Amazing (1)Michael’s 5-star review: If you love breakfast sandwiches then look no further. This gem in reading terminal is creating a delicious one. Buttery and rich biscuit, fluffy eggs, flavorful sausage and the scallion aioli is awesome. The sandwich is HUGE! The rotating pop tarts are also worth a try, the sugar cookie poptart was tasty, but I was hoping to try one of the fruit filled renditions, but it was good (albeit sweet). If your new year's resolution is to shed some pounds, then skip this place, but if it's to live a happier life, then head on over. -
Great (1)Michael’s 4-star review: 4 stars for the food, but the experience needs some revamping. The good: Hotpot with high-end meats is a major win. There are multiple bases to choose from, but they should offer better vegetarian options, they were pretty basic Wagyu Combo is the way to go, comes with Short-rib, Brisket, and Beef, all are bursting with flavor and I could eat it all day, paired with the oxtail tomato base was top notch. Veggies, noodles, seafood, and rice of your choosing. Definitely grab some of the appetizers and specialty sides like the dumplings, potstickers, wagyu uni nigiri, they round out the meal well The bad: Waitlist: The waitlist/check-in process is bad. There are 2 hour+ wait quotes, but the Yelp App:l/Restaurant does not have great estimating ability, so when your table is ready 1 hour early you get dozens of calls to show up. Well, if I am quoted 2 hours, I'm not just waiting outside of the restaurant, I go enjoy my evening in the meantime. Get a normal reservation system please Seating: The seating is too cramped, there is no way 4 people could comfortable sit at the table, there is no where to stretch your feet and the chair back and pot are too far apart making the entire eating experience uncomfortable Menu: It is all digital, but it's difficult to scroll and see all of the options, and try to understand how much to order Music: EDM was loud Overall, the meat is fantastic, but they need some updates to the overall experience -

Solid (1)Michael’s 3-star review: I used to love Fogo de Chao years ago, but things have clearly changed. I vowed never to return after my last experience at a different location, but found myself here with some colleagues and I'm not saying no to a free meal. Service was just entirely too slow for my liking. They bill themselves as a true steakhouse, but the attention to detail is lacking. In short, the salad bar left much to be desired, the salads were pretty bland and unappetizing. The best meats rarely came around, yet they kept bringing chicken. The meat was pretty good though which is a win. Additionally, it took over an hour to get cheese bread, that's unacceptable. Drinks were good and so was dessert, but the dinner left a lot to be desired
