Our honeymoon was the best. Great views, great food and great fun. Moab is mega awesome!

Alicia’s 5-star review: The Bar M Chuckwagon was amazing! It is so amazingly cheesy that I challenge you not to crack a smile. The people that run it are so friendly and seem genuinely happy, which is contagious. The Bar M is about 15 minutes outside of Moab and is open during the tourist season (May to October, I think). You get there at 6:30 and walk around, looking at the mock old west town. They have a saloon where you can buy a beer or soda, horseshoes to play, Boot Hill cemetery. At 7:00 the shootout begins. My goodness, I could not stop laughing. Then you head inside for dinner. You get a tin plate and a choice of chicken or roast beef, baked potato, biscuit, cinnamon apple sauce, baked beans and sweet bread. You also get your choice of lemonade or iced tea out of a tin cup. The performers walk around and refill your cups continuously. You can even go up for seconds. If I wasn't so full, I would have gone back up because the food was great. Then the show started. The Bar M Wranglers were all very talented musicians and you could tell that they enjoy what they do. Definitely a family friendly show. Overall, it was a great bargain. Great food, entertaining and close to town. I would recommend it to anyone heading to Moab with a sense of humor and fun. -
Alicia’s 5-star review: I seriously could not have nicer things to say about this place. My favorite meal on our trip to Moab! They totally cater to my love of cheese! We got here a bit early for dinner because we were still on Boston time. We were both pretty much starving so we ordered some cheesey garlic bread to start. I think the cheese may have been a half inch thick. It was awesome! I had a really hard time deciding on an entree because there was so much that looked good. I explained my predicament to the waitress and she suggested that I let the chef create something that is a combination of the things I was debating. I trusted her judgement and, boy am I glad. I ended up with homemade pasta pillows, an amazing creamy meat sauce, all covered with cheese and baked. It was SOOOO good! My husband got the Baked Lorenzo, which he enjoyed. I would have tried it, but mine was so good that I didn't want to waste any prime real estate in my tummy on his dinner. They also bring over a big basket of garlic bread with dinner. We ate outside so we were able to people watch while we ate. The waitstaff was outstanding. The price was very reasonable. All in all, a great meal! -
Alicia’s 5-star review: Wow, this place was great. It's off the beaten track, but well worth the small side trip. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. I got a bacon cheeseburger with cheese tots. I thought I would go into a cheese coma! It was awesome! The fries and tots are more like platters instead of sides so if we were to go back, the husband and I would have split them instead of each ordering a side. The bacon cheeseburger was loaded with bacon, so much so, that I had to take some out and eat it seperately. This is a really great burger joint. It made me very happy in the greasy food center of my brain. -
Alicia’s 5-star review: For our first breakfast in Moab, we decided to go to the Jailhouse Cafe, mostly because I LOVE eggs benedict and the Yelp reviews convinced me that this was the place to go for them. I was not disappointed. The eggs were fluffy and perfectly poached, the sauce was delicious and the spice added a lot. The home fries were also slightly spicy, which was nice. The soul food bacon was like eating super-concentrated bacon. My husband got the ginger pancakes with the apple butter sauce. WOW! They were amazing! Very fluffy and huge! The ambiance of the place was perfect for a laid back breakfast. The waitress was really lovely. Very, very friendly staff. It was a little pricey for breakfast, but well worth it. -
Alicia’s 5-star review: This Deli was a little ways down a side street. My husband found it on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. I am really glad we did. The sandwiches we got were great! I got an Italian and I have never had a sandwich like it. The meat was cut so thick and all the flavors were perfectly balanced. It was a perfect lunch before our trek to Canyonlands! -
Alicia’s 4-star review: We just spent our honeymoon in Moab and stayed at the Red Cliffs Lodge for our entire stay. The property is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in a standard River King Mini Suite, which has a king size bed, flat screen tv, small fridge, microwave, kitchen sink, and a beautiful patio overlooking the Colorado River. When we originally booked, the hotel was booked so we would have had to switch rooms halfway through the trip into a more expensive King Cabin. The day before we were supposed to switch, I called the front desk and the woman who answered was amazingly helpful and moved some reservations around so we could stay in our room. The movie museum on the property is pretty corny, but worth checking out if you're driving by or staying at the hotel. Probably not worth a seperate trip from town, though. The hotel is about 15 minutes from town down a windy, beautiful road following the Colorado River. It's a tough drive when you're tired and if you drive it at night, the lights from the Canyonlands By Night truck is absolutely blinding. Based on the reviews, we did not try the restaurant at the hotel. The pool was amazing. We swam here every night when we got home and some mornings before we left for the day. At night, the bats swoop overhead, skimming the water for dinner. It was a little startling at first, but you get used to it. There is also a hot tub, which is small, but nice. With the exception of the woman who helped us with the room switch, the staff was pretty underwhelming. Not one was especially polite or seemed very happy. They weren't rude, just kind of indifferent. I would say that was the only black mark on an otherwise wonderful stay. -
Alicia’s 4-star review: The husband and I booked the half day morning tour through the Moab Adventure Center. Our guide, Andrew, was awesome. He was funny, nice and really knowledgable (or great at pretending he knew what he was talking about). The first part of the trip into Canyonlands was lovely with some nice stops along the way to see arches, an area with a ton of petrified wood and some of the more terrifying places people climb or jeep. On the way back, though, something went wrong with the boat and it lost steering. Luckily Andrew was able to get us back to the boat ramp, though it was pretty slow going. They had a bus pick us up and drive us back to town, though we didn't get back until almost 2:00, which was 2 hours later than the originally scheduled return time. It was a really hot day and there wasn't much shade to be found at the boat ramp and the bus was practically swampy with heat and sweat. Much less comfortable than cruising down the river in a jet boat. Needless to say, I wasn't in the best mood when we finally did get back to the Canyonlands by Night building. I know that mechanical failures happen and, all things considered, we were lucky to be able to contact them to come get us. I did not expect a refund or anything, but I did sort of expect an apology. I mean, we did have to rush through everything else we wanted to do that day and we weren't able to get to the place we wanted to watch sunset. After my husband filled out a questionnaire from the Moab Adventure Center asking how the trip was, Canyonlands by Night sent him an e-mail explaining that they didn't really know what was going on and why a bus had to come get us. They didn't get the full story until later so they apologized for not apologizing. Truthfully, looking back on it, we had a great time and got some amazing pictures. Andrew was a great guide and I am really glad that he was able to get us back to some sort of civilization so he could contact his company to send the bus. Obviously what happened to our boat was an anomoly, but it made a good story when we got home. -
Alicia’s 3-star review: Stopped here for a quick bite after our stop at the Adventure Center. A pretty typical diner except for the super friendly waitstaff and the green chili. I ordered the smothered roast beef, just with the green chili on the side so I could dip (didn't want to load up on chili before a hike). Unfortunately, it didn't come out on the side, which I could have lived with, but the waitress was very attentive and had them make a new one. The prices were the lowest we found for lunch in Moab. The food tasted good, but I had a pretty bad tummy ache for the rest of the day, probably from eating diner food before a hike. Overall, pretty good but it may not agree with your stomach. -
Alicia’s 2-star review: We had gotten back from our hike pretty late so a lot of places were closing for the night. We popped into Zax, which looked decent. Husband got the all you can eat pizza buffet and I got the chicken parm. As soon as the chicken parm came out, I thought "what the heck was I thinking?!?!" This place seemed more like a bar than a restaurant, probably best for ordering appetizers or pizza with beer. The chicken parm was blah at best and I instantly regretted ordering it. Tommy enjoyed the pizza, especially the honey chicken. The homemade root beer was pretty good, but not really worth the $12 they charge you. Kind of bummed that this is what we ended up eating on our last night in Moab.
