Jayme’s 4-star review:
Friends and I decided to take advantage of the warm spring day with happy hour! We arrived with about twenty minutes to spare before the happy hour specials expired for the day. Phewwww, we made it just in time (happy hour is Monday through Friday three to seven)! The have specials on drinks, apps, and small bites, which is a pretty stellar deal. We also scored major by snagging a table on the patio. Overall, the evening started out as a major win!
After sitting at our table for a good fifteen minutes, our server finally came over to take our drink order. We ended up ordering two drinks at once since by this point there was only two minutes of happy hour left. No worries though because they were totally cool with us double fisting so we could take advantage of the specials. Everyone at the table ordered Moscow mules. They were really refreshing and certainly didn't skimp on the alcohol. Two thumbs up! For starters we ordered the roasted cauliflower and the goat cheese board. Both of them were delicious! The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and the pimento dip that lined the plate was super tasty. The goat cheese board was absolutely divine. It included fired and whipped goat cheese with honey, pickled blackberries, some sort of jam, and candied walnuts. Oh my goodness, the fried goat cheese balls were out of this world, especially with a smear of the.
After my friends and I chatted and finished our first drink, we decided to order entrees. I went with the veggie black bean burger and truffle fries. Both of my friends got the regular burger. Our food didn't take long to prepare and came out piping hot. My truffle fries were fantastic even without a dipping sauce. I found myself eating the fries more than the black been burger. The burger simply wasn't my favorite. It comes with mixed greens as opposed to a solid lettuce so they got really soggy and icky after the hot patty was laid on top of them. The cheese was a pimento spread and while the spread itself was good, I would have preferred a normal slice of melted cheese. I also didn't like the caramelized onions. The entire burger just felt soggy. There wasn't enough texture for me. That's something I'm pretty peculiar about so maybe it's just me.
Overall, I would definitely come back to The Crest Gastropub... Maybe not for the veggie burger, but for everything else, YES! Without a doubt. The happy hour specials were on point, everyone was friendly, our starters were delish and there were several other items on the menu that looked good. Major thanks to The Crest for making the first legitimate day of spring a fantastic one!
