'ZDNET Recommends': What exactly does it mean?
ZDNET's recommendations are based on many hours of testing, research, and comparison shopping. We gather data from the best available sources, including vendor and retailer listings as well as other relevant and independent reviews sites. And we pore over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the products and services we’re assessing.
When you click through from our site to a retailer and buy a product or service, we may earn affiliate commissions. This helps support our work, but does not affect what we cover or how, and it does not affect the price you pay. Neither ZDNET nor the author are compensated for these independent reviews. Indeed, we follow strict guidelines that ensure our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers.
ZDNET's editorial team writes on behalf of you, our reader. Our goal is to deliver the most accurate information and the most knowledgeable advice possible in order to help you make smarter buying decisions on tech gear and a wide array of products and services. Our editors thoroughly review and fact-check every article to ensure that our content meets the highest standards. Apple's AirPods Pro 2 are $80 off during October Prime Day
Apple recently unveiled new AirPods, and while you might be considering buying the brand's latest headphones, you shouldn't forget about the sweet, sweet discounts that activate on earlier models once Apple releases new hardware -- especially during deals events like Amazon Prime Day.

If you aren't interested in the new products, consider the deal you can get on a competitive pair of older AirPods, like the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro (second generation), which are some of our favorite earbuds and our top pick out of the AirPods lineup, are on sale at Amazon for $80 off, bringing the price down to $170. The discount comes during the first day of Amazon's October Prime Day event that takes place on Oct. 8 and 9, when the retail giant slashes prices on many everyday tech products.

These are the AirPods that are also getting a major free software update that will turn them into clinical-grade hearing aids sometime this fall. If you're interested, this is a great time to pick up a pair -- and I doubt the deal will be around for long.
The AirPods Pro (second generation) tops ZDNET's best AirPods list because they offer impressive sound quality, immersive noise cancellation, all-day comfort, and a wireless charging case. With six hours of battery life and Apple's latest H2 chip, you're getting the most modern tech in these Apple earbuds.

And, because the case can utilize wireless charging, you can plunk it down on a MagSafe charger, an Apple Watch charger, or a Qi-compatible charging mat for non-Apple tech products.
ZDNET editor-in-chief Jason Hiner says the pair are the most easily recommendable of the four AirPod models. "That's because they fit almost every type of ear, they are very comfortable to wear, and they include all of the best and latest features that Apple has to offer in headphones. Plus, they get a bonus set of new features as part of the iOS 17 update, which won't come to any of the other AirPods," he writes.

If you're ready to replace that old pair of wired earbuds with one of our favorite wireless earbuds, you might as well hop on this second-generation AirPods Pro deal. But act fast -- the discount won't last long.
