Essential Functions * Knowledge and implementation of all athletic policies approved by the Ysleta ISD Board of Trustees, and University Interscholastic League (UIL). * Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, and facilities following district safety protocols and emergency procedures. * Knowledge and implementation of coaching techniques and procedures. * Instruct and supervise student athletes. * Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Dress in appropriate professional attire while conducting coaching duties. * Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. * Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes. * Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport. * Work cooperatively with district and campus administration to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and tournaments. * Coordinate with campus and district transportation department for travel arrangements in assigned sport(s). * Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. * Follow required guidelines for addressing student injuries as found in District Athletic Handbook, board policy, UIL Safety Training program, and district procedures. * Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based upon findings. * Ensure compliance of all UIL rules. * Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sport at both home and away contests. * Instruct and advise students on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. * Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. * Demonstrate and teach good sportsmanship in all phases of athletic participation. * Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, teachers, administration and officials. * Oversee the purchase, inventory and maintenance of athletic equipment. * Maintain sport(s) budget and fund-raising accounts in accordance with district policy and regulation. * Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. * Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Other Responsibilities * Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. * Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. * Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; Valid Texas Teachers Certificate with the required endorsements for the subject and level assigned, one (1) year student teaching or approved internship, ability to organize and supervise a total sports program; previous successful coaching or participant experience at the high school level or higher.
