Quality function deployment analysis of smartphones

Dr. Tanmoy De

Teknomekanik, 2022

To utilize the concept of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and apply it appropriately to address design decisions concerning the quality of cellular phones, a simplified version of the House of Quality (HoQ) will be built. Real customer requirements (CRs) are easier to collect when QFD is employed because it puts the emphasis on the customer and their demands where it should be. After gathering various users' opinions on different smartphone brands and conducting an online survey with mobile users in Taichung, Taiwan, the study highlights the items preferred by most users, such as long-lasting battery life, high-quality camera, reliability, wide screen, ease of use, and lightweight. This aids businesses in translating CRs into primary Design Requirements (DRs) so that they can create superior goods that align with consumer demands.

Soft Computing, 2020

Fuzzy quality function deployment (QFD) approach has been extensively implemented to transform customer requirements (CRs) into products or services because fuzzy numbers provide to obtain more accurately the judgments of experts in vagueness environment. This study proposes to use interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) numbers in the improving of fuzzy QFD method. The developed IT2F number-based QFD approach utilizes IT2F sets to define the correlations among CRs; the relations between CRs and design requirements (DRs); the correlations among DRs; the weights of DRs. There is no paper about integrating QFD approach and IT2F set in the literature. IT2F numbers include more accurately the judgments of the experts to express the vagueness of the applications. In addition, TOPSIS (technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution) approach based on interval type-2 trapezoidal fuzzy (IT2TrF) is utilized to select the best mobile phone. Finally, mobile phone selection implementation is handled to indicate the efficiency of the proposed method. A Quality Function Deployment Methodology for Product Development

WARSE The World Academy of Research in Science and Engineering

A constant challenge for any fast paced industry, such as consumer electronics, is the very short technology life span needed to successfully take a product from conception to market while staying competitive with other industry leaders. There are also a wide variety of customers and market segments. Incorporating these factors into a single product design while maintaining a competitive development cycle is both challenging and time consuming. Customer input is gathered through marketing surveys, market research and previous product feedback. Implementing this paper adds to the overall product lead time due to the difficulty of gathering and analyzing the data. This lead time can be reduced by creating a method to process the voice of the customer for direct use in the development cycle. In the consumer electronics industry (similar to other fast paced industries), there are 3 basic types of customers: "early technology adopter", "general consumer", and "last to market" [20]. Currently corporations target either a single customer type with their product family, or choose to make a range of products to meet, hopefully, the needs of each of these types. In a survey of the literature, there are no documented end to- end methods for interpreting and applying marketing survey data (that is generalized and not targeted towards a specific group) and producing product/feature sets that reflect the needs of each customer group that can be input directly into the quality function deployment process. This paper will present an end-to-end process that can take a product concept, gather and analyze customer marketing data, create a product profile/feature set, and use input from the cross functional teams to maximize the end quality, and customer satisfaction. This tool would be extendable to any "fast paced" industry, such as the consumer electronics industry, and reduce development costs lead time, reduce internal decision time, turn qualitative into quantitative reasoning. The following literature review will show the previous research in areas of product development and quality function deployment related to the goal of this paper.

An application of quality function deployment to functional modeling in a knowledge intensive design environment

Tetsuo Tomiyama

Springer eBooks, 1996

Knowledge intensive design environments should assist designers with clear understanding of designers' intention. Therefore, relating functional information of a design object with the designer's intention is a crucial issue. We have already proposed the FBS (Function-Behavior-State) diagram as a framework for modeling function. An FBS diagram represents the information on function, behavior, and state of one design solution, but it cannot deal with design alternatives that are considered in a design process. This results in the FBS diagram being lacking the representation of the reasons why the designer selected one solution from alternatives. QFD (Quality Function Deployment) is a method for design review and allows the designer to evaluate a design object from view point of quality. This paper proposes an application of the QFD method to the FBS diagram to represent the designers' intention for decision making during design. We also describe a prototype system and illustrate an example design of a photocopier to demonstrate how a knowledge intensive design environment can contribute to guaranteeing and improving design quality.
