Black & White has a decent selection. But a liquor store that doesn't carry ice? Pathetic! Walked here because of the convenient location and left sadly empty handed.

I've been coming here my entire life (20+ years) and it hasn't changed, it's still the best liquor store to go to in south berkeley. Daniel is always there making me laugh and making sure I got what I need. There's a wide selection of products that gives black & white the convenience in convenient store. Be sure to stop by if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Grab some popcorn and read all of the yelp reviews. You'll notice some patterns. You can avoid being a victim of terrible customer service or worse by not going into the store. I only went in once and I can honestly say i'll never be back. I'm curious if the good reviews are personal friends of the guy who works there. I'm shocked it remains in business.

I have had several bad experiences with this liquor store. Yes, they are the most conveniently located liquor store for me, as they are right off Ashby BART, but I will never go back despite the location.
The first awful experience I had was about a month ago. I was paying for my beer (Anchorsteam Summer Brew), and I handed the clerk--who I believe is the owner--a $20 bill. He mumbled a question about $1 bills, and I told him that he could give me back my change however he wanted. He then looked at me with a grimace, and very rudely yelled, "No. Do you HAVE any one dollar bills." I said, "No, I don't have any one dollar bills," and then he mocked me by repeating what I said in a very high-pitched, offensive tone. It was completely uncalled for, especially since I was a patron of his store.
My second terrible experience was not my own. I was with my friend who was purchasing beer, and the same man--I believe the owner--rang us up. I watched him put in the correct price, and then I watched him put in the tax. This is normal. But then, for no reason at all, he punched in another 30 cents into the register, after he had already tacked on the tax. It was really seedy.
Bottom line: This liquor store is terribly run by very shady business practitioners. Take the extra time to find another establishment. You'll be glad you did.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nadim K.San Francisco, United States050Feb 11, 2017
Walked in to buy some wine, cashier asks for ID then returns it to me. I give him my credit card and he asks for my ID again to which I jokingly reply that I just handed it to him.
He gets irritated very quickly goes on a rant:
Would you like me to remember your name?
Would you you like me to remember your f*cking ID number?
Would you like me to remember your birthday?
Are you f*cking retarded? Do you have Down syndrome?
I found the person to be abrasive & rude, I would rather walk a couple of blocks to another store than go here again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kerina J.Oakland, United States111468Apr 22, 2013
I had a so-so experience here, but I probably would not return here. This liquor store is located right across from the Ashby Bart station.
They had a pretty good selection of chilled wine and I ended up with a bottle of Barefoot Moscato for $6.99, which is cheaper than Target. The cashier wasn't particularly friendly and some of the people can seem sketch.
They do accept credit cards for purchases greater than $10 and debit cards for anything less.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chris H.Newark, United States0110Oct 23, 2018
I don't know why everyone is hating on the guy that works here, from my experience he's a chill guy. Always remembers my face when I walk in and doesn't mind chatting up a bit. Other than that it's your local neighborhood liquor store.

I found a dusty bottle of 1997 Stag's Leap cab on their back shelf for $15. The regulars are not into unfortified wines.

this place sucks with customer service and the manager or owner is pretty big a- hole! I won't be back.
