We tried getting the porchetta sandwich the afternoon before around 3pm and they were sold out so we came back the next day when they opened around 11am.
The sandwich was so good. The Porchetta was nice and fresh. The sauce they use is so good. The cracklin was so satisfying. Definitely coming back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 8, 2025
20 min to grab lunch and run means handheld is the answer. High quality sandwiches with featured menu items. Porchetta is the OG and definitely the place to start. Sauces are extra but worth spicing up your life fast service and friendly staff make the ambiance perfect for a Gastown work week visit.

It was years ago that we first tried a sandwich at a different location and the family had such good memories we had to try again.
Inside was a little empty around noon but the restaurant was quite spacious and modern. Last time the lines were so long so was this a sign?
We ordered the porchetta sandwich and watched the staff prepare it. The porchetta sandwich we originally ate had left such a great first impression from long ago that it was the only choice for us even though it seemed a bit pricey now.
Initial impressions were that the sandwich seemed smaller than before and there wasn't much stuffed inside. The bread to meat ratio was definitely skewed towards the bread. Nothing like the website photos. The porchetta and crackling mixture was quite savory but definitely could be a lot more including the salsa verde.
A definite let down for us. Glad we also had other food to fill our stomachs that day.
Not sure if we will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 7, 2024
I love meat and bread so this place is perfection! I love the rustic vibes of the Gastown location and they played excellent music when we were there!
I got the porchetta sandwich - I wish they gave more crackling and/or the salsa verde. The sauce brought a hint of freshness that helps cut through the richness/fatness of the meat. My bf enjoyed his food. They may look small but the sandwiches kept us full for hours walking in the heat!
I enjoyed their homemade sambal and mustard sauces! If I had room in my bag, I definitely would've bought a few mustard jars!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 21, 2024
Is it worth the hype? You tell me...
In my opinion, yes and no. There are long line ups at times and food runs out at other times especially for their more popular sandwiches. The bread is tougher than I'd like it to be but the fillings are quite other worldly. These sandwiches are reasonably priced which is not something that is easy to find in Vancouver when it comes to this standard of quality. I go for the porchetta which is sandwich lover's dream with the perfect bite of crispiness on the outside and the juicy tenderness of the inside of the meat. Make sure you order this item at this popular and busy sandwich shop!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nina T.Houma, United StatesJan 4, 2025
Ordered 2 sandwiches to share. Of course had to get the porchetta and also ordered the roasted lamb. Both very flavorful!!

Shrinkflation lives!!!
I'd eaten at Meat & Bread a few years ago and was blown away by the quality and quantity. I remember the meat falling out there was so much
A few years later and the Meat and the Bread are much much smaller. I don't remember the price a few years ago but I'm sure it was the same or more this time.
To recap. Smaller bread and even smaller amount of meat. Not sure I'd go againHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Omar M.Los Angeles, United States250Feb 21, 2025
Simply the best. Never had a meatball sandwich that tasted so good. Only thing was the pancetta was out of:( guess we have to come back again!

My first Canadian sandwich... Wow! I got the Porchetta, which was amazing. I absolutely love the crispy skin mixed with the chunks of meat and salsa verde. It gave it a nice crunchy taste to it.

Amazing service and BOMB sandwiches. The atmosphere resembles an old school Brooklyn deli and combined with a fresh hot meal with quality ingredients you get a whirlwind of comfort and satisfaction. If you are in Downtown Vancouver, you have to stop by especially during the winter. The grilled cheese + chicken and tomato soup is the ultimate combo.
