About the Business
Established in 1924. The Broadway Theatre is one of only five playhouses that front on the street named Broadway. It opened in 1924 as B. S. Moss's Colony, a premiere film house. The most notable film that played there in the early years was Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie which opened in 1928, and introduced American audiences to an adorable rodent named Mickey Mouse. The theatre went "legit" from 1930 to 1934, when it was re-christened the Broadway. From 1934 to 1940, the house was once again dedicated to motion picture exhibition, and offered the premiere of Disney's Fantasia in 1939. In 1940, however, it returned to legitimate stage production and, except for a brief stint as a Cinerama movie theatre in the 1950s, has remained in the business of showcasing live theatre ever since. B. S. Moss commissioned architect Eugene DeRosa to design the Colony as part of his chain of movie theatres, many of which also housed vaudeville. The large size of the theatre made it ideal for musical comedies.

Q:
Anyone know if they have parking, co$t?
A:
There's lots of icon parking lots through out the area within walking distance. Prices are varied, and also depends on how long you stay. There is also valet parking at the Marriott Marquis hotel this is a little more expensive

I came with my school to see the great Gatsby today and the show was amazing. The reason i had to give 3 stars was because of the unreasonable attitude of the people assisting the seating within the theatre and during the show. They were incredibly rude and disrespectful saying "absolutely not" to simple questions. saying "i work here so i know" to a question about seating and even during the show a woman came up to us while we were seated with out teacher and rudely told us to stop talking even though we weren't even talking and our teacher even confirmed with us we were not speaking. this is so unexpected and rude.

Returned to the iconic Broadway Theatre, in order to enjoy another performance of The Great Gatsby.
Once again, this theatre is stunning. The chandeliers add to the opulence and I enjoy the massive stage. I cannot commend the staff and ushers, enough. They keep everyone moving, hydrated, and behaving.
The Great Gatsby is an incredible production. The stage sets are award winning and the singing is emotional. If you haven't seen this musical, please make time to take in a spellbinding Broadway stage show.Helpful 17Thanks 9Love this 14Oh no 0Aug 15, 2024Previous reviewReturned to the beautiful Broadway Theater, in order to enjoy The Great Gatsby, again!
This musical has class, elegance, opulence, award winning singing, renowned performers, and an amazing production. I'll never get enough of it and WILL experience it, over and over!
If you enjoyed the 2013 movie, the musical will add to the greatness of this story and masterful adaptation.Jul 4, 2024Previous reviewCame to the Broadway Theater to enjoy The Great Gatsby and it was AMAZING! The theater is majestic, the Ushers go above and beyond with their attentiveness, the seats are comfortable, and the stage is massive.
We were privileged to watch award winning performances by Jeremy Jordan (Jay Gatsby) and Eva Noblezada (Daisy Buchanan). They were both moving, superlative, and the entire cast put on a memorable experience. The opulence of the stage sets are breath taking and the singing stirs emotions. I can see this musical over and over and can't wait to see it, again.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Great Gatsby and enjoy it in one of Broadway's superb playhouses. - Arlene W.Manhattan, NY665145531Mar 12, 2025
I saw Great Gatsby last Saturday for their 8pm show. I did rush tickets from the theater the day of (got in line at 9:30am for the box office to open at 10am). We got decent upper mezzanine seats for $40 each. Security was fast, seats were spacious enough.
As it relates to the show, the Great Gatsby on Broadway was a visual spectacle-stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and an immersive 1920s vibe. Sarah Hyland was charming as Daisy, but overall, the show lacked the emotional depth of the book. While entertaining, it didn't capture the heart and deeper elements of the story. Although it's been awhile since I read the book in high school, I'm reminded of the exploration of the American dream, class/social status, gender roles, and hedonistic culture of the roaring 20s. It was still a good experience for $40 a ticket, but I would just manage expectationsHelpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 2675121200Mar 8, 20251 check-in
Just watched Great Gatsby here. It's a smaller theater than most, but it's very clean and comfortable inside. Spacious bathrooms that weren't too crowded. Small merch purchasing areas and food vendors (both stationary and mobile) are available.
They strangely don't have security checks here. Staff weren't as friendly as other theaters though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicole D.Tempe, AZ28102161Feb 13, 2025
Went to my first show on Broadway and it was well worth the money!
We had pretty good seats for a Saturday night show and the show was great. I always thought the theatres on Browadway would be super big and grandiose but this felt like a local Theater. Nothing wrong with that but just my expectations were different. It was way more cozy!
The singers were good but Mr. Gatsby aka Ryan McCarya was outstanding. Who knew Diggy could sing like that?!? It was honestly such a great show. Once in a lifetime experience for sure.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Nov 25, 2024
Came to this theater for the first time last night to see the great gatsby. The show itself was amazing. Highly recommend seeing it if you enjoyed the book or movie. Lots of singing, lots of dancing and beautiful sets. Our tickets were $200 each and in a pretty decent section.
The theater itself was nice. I felt like the workers there kept everything as organized as possible. Bathrooms were downstairs as well as as bar for drinks and snacks. Another bar was on the main level. There was an area for souvenirs and gifts from the show too. Be aware as 2 drinks can be $68 - but least you get a memorial cup to take home lol.
Overall it was a great evening for a wonderful show.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - L F.Dallas, TX031Apr 9, 2025

Came recently at Broadway Theatre for The Great Gatsby. A beautiful performance but the theater experience left a bit to be desired.
I can't quite remember if I've ever been to this theater before for other musicals or plays. People were taking photos on the stairs and it did look beautifully designed. (To me, while I appreciate the beauty and detail, all theaters are pretty similar in that type of architecture and atmosphere.)
The people at the door couldn't crack a smile for their lives. We came in a bit early and asked which side of the theater we would need to go through to get to our Orchestra seats. One of the ushers ended up guiding us to the wrong door (not a huge deal, as it was just one door over to the left).
The seats are standard Broadway theater seats - SMALL-ish, but reasonably comfortable. I did very much appreciate the proper downslope of the theater floor that truly does allow you to see the stage very clearly and properly from virtually (more or less) any row.
During intermission, for the restroom, the staff turned into drill sergeants ordering / guiding people around in a lineup that moves quite quickly, so I appreciated that as well.
Now... let's talk about the theater concession stand, particularly the drinks. I'm not entirely sure just how many ounces they were, but my sister got one of the mixed drinks and I got a wine. She paid a whopping EIGHTY DOLLARS. For TWO drinks.
Dude. I BEG YOUR PARDON?!?!?! What in the Thespian heck is going on with such prices???
I was SHOOKETH. Again, they definitely were LARGE, bigger than the usual (smaller) cup, which to me, would be the equivalent of a small deli cup of coffee. So I would say MEDIUM size (see photo).
Still, that put me off almost entirely. But it at least was enjoyable FWIW. Again, the show was a delight and this isn't a reflection on the cast and crew at all. (There wasn't ever a Broadway show I did not love.)
And I will never bitch about the price of the tickets; but the price of their drinks / merch?! Absolutely outrageous!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 1 - Oct 26, 2024
Got the pleasure of seeing The Great Gatsby here. The cast did a phenomenal job. The theatre is beautiful. The staff were friendly but very strict which kept things running in an organized fashion.
The tickets are worth the prices because it's a lovely experience however the snacks and drinks are priced outrageously. .Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 4531278889Oct 26, 2024
A good theater. It was definitely the right stage for the great Gatsby play bill. I did have box seats in the upper row, and I was kind of upset that it wasn't sectioned off. It really took away from the experience. But there's only so much they can do to alter these old theaters. The least they could've done was put a rope in front of our chairs to make us feel extra special.
Snack options were pretty scarce at this location. I definitely wanted a couple more salty options, but it is what it was.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
