I gave the waitress a star, because she is very nice. I ordered the patty melt sandwich, there may have been 2 ounces of beef, the rest was bread. I discarded
the bread, too much, couldn't taste anything but bread. I also ordered onion rings, they had a rancid oil taste. My boyfriend ordered the salad bar and was happy with it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 17, 2015
In my quest to try every restaurant along my path to work, I had to come here eventually. I'm sure it has been 25 years since I was at a Big Boy, and I'm also sure there is a reason for that. We went occasionally when I was a kid, but I've avoided it since. Perhaps unfairly, because my recent visit wasn't awful, as I had feared.
It's a big chain, sort of like Bob Evans or Denny's but cheaper. The decor was nice, the place was clean, service was great, and prices- wow. $3.60 for a double burger (the actual Big Boy.)
And the burger was: fair. The patties themselves were thin and a little crispy; not bad. The bun was forgettable, the special sauce was meh, and on the whole I wish I'd gotten something else. So, their signature item was not a hit. Still, for the price, it's not awful. I added on the salad bar, and that almost made up for it. Not quite as fresh and bountiful as I had hoped, but there was a decent selection, most of which was fresh. The usual lettuce and toppings, a few prepared salads, a couple of soups, some fruit and desserts.
I don't know... it's not my thing. I'm giving it two stars because I probably won't be back, but if you like generic chain food then it's decent food at a low price. Of course, there are many options even in a town the size of Marysville, so being average really isn't good enough.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Troy C.Washington, DC12163Dec 20, 2018
This never happens but the food was so bad that I simply couldn't eat it :( The burger tasted like a dirty grill. The cilli tots only had 3 tater tots that were buried in a sea of chilly mush. My recommendation, go across the street to Wendys. I did.

This place is pretty dirty inside the floors don't look like that have ever been swept. I got a mushroom & Swiss burger with chilli cheese tots. The chilli cheese tots were ok but the mushroom and Swiss was by far the most disgusting thing i have ever eaten. My stomach was immediately upset. The whole entire sandwich was gross, every part. It almost tasted as though it had gotten cleaning supplies on it. Absolutely horrible.

This place needs to do everyone a big favor and burn down. I've never eaten such disgusting garbage in my life. They took some old piece of freezer-burned fish substance and deep fried it to a hard crisp and placed it on a stale bun. That was supposed to be my dinner? The lettuce in my salad was brown and limp...didn't touch it. There were only two cars in the lot which should have been my first clue. Never again.

Went here with my family on a Saturday evening. There was no wait, and only about 5 tables occupied. Now I know why. Server was polite and apologetic for the DISASTEROUS wait for our food. Took FOREVER. And you know there's something wrong when it takes an hour and 15 minutes to eat at a Big Boy. Fish sandwich was luke warm, fries and onion rings were cold. Went to the front to pay our bill, and the manager didn't even ask how everything was, because I sure wanted to tell him! Skip this place that time and good service forgot, and go to Bob Evan's instead! Never again...

Here with my family and my father went to use the restroom before we ordered drinks and the waitress that went by G**ger waited at the table for my fathers drink order. She then proceeds to say "you made a noise coming out of the bathroom." Then we order and then go to the salad bar and I'm the only one at the table still and she says "you know what that means when somebody makes a noise when leaving the bathroom... it means they went in there and dropped a large load." This is the most foul thing I have ever witnessed at a restaurant. I enjoy Frisch's and I enjoy comedy but there is a time and place for everything and when we are getting ready to eat is not the time. I would give 0 stars if I could. And yes I made a yelp account just to leave a review. Unacceptable

First of all I love Frisch's and always have, nothing better than a Big Boy. Their breakfast bar is ok except for the eggs. The eggs are awful because they switched a few years ago from a fresh liquid mix to a frozen mix and after freezing eggs in any way makes them taste awful. If I go for breakfast most times I order from the menu because of the terrible eggs. Occasionally I get a great server who just brings me eggs as I order the breakfast bar. That doesn't happen often. I usually go somewhere else for breakfast if I am really Hungry. If they upped the quality of the eggs I would go there probably every weekend.
The service is usually very good and food comes out quickly. Actually too quick sometimes. If you get the salad bar and order something from the grill you actually have to wolf it down so that your hot food doesn't get cold. Could be that you'll eat less salad but its the same if you order a salad or cole slaw with the meal. My wife loves the vegetable soup and when they have bean soup (which isn't often) it's usually good as well.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Emily O.Dublin, OH113792Jul 28, 2013
This place was not at all what I had expected. I've been driving by the Marysville big boy for months thinking it was yet another fast food joint. When my husband informed me that it is actually a sit down restaurant with waitresses, I was shocked. Always up to dine somewhere new, we decided to try this place.
The atmosphere is more like a steak and shake, but with a self serve salad bar (which I did not attempt to try. Those things always gross me out). It has a very retro, black white and red checkered board kind of feel/decor. Our waitress was great. She was timely and friendly.
I got a pork and fries. Hubs got a burger and onion rings. Everything is al a carte. So you pay like $5 or $6 for your burger or sandwich and then fries or side are an additional $2 or so. Making an average of $8 a person. Not bad. But oh, it WAS bad.
The pork was gross, like really really gross. Inedible. The meat inside was a weird ground up texture and a funky dark brown color, and the outside breading of the actual pork was stale. The bun was hard and the outsides of the pork (circumference) were very hard, like burnt hard, like not even chewable. It tasted like freezer burn Schwann man porks that were way too old to be eaten safely. My fries were good though.
Hubs' burger was just okay, according to him. He got onion rings that were completely undercooked and tasted disgusting. The human garbage disposal deemed them not edible. He did complain of stomach issues the next morning. I can't say for sure if it was related to the food, but I know what my guess would be.
There are few choices in the Ville that have good food, a nice atmosphere, and timely service. I was really hoping Big Boy would fit the bill. But, uh, not so much :(Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Toby B.Delaware, OH3068349Jul 19, 2011First to Review
Sometimes the restaurant isn't about the food but about the atmosphere and the memories. My wife is a huge fan of Frisch's Big Boy Restaurant in large part because of the time she spent with her aunt and grandmother at the Tiffin location.
However, the food is solid diner food. Nothing special, nothing bad. The classic Big Boy is a great choice and the salad bar and soup is a favorite of mine.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
