International Day of Yoga 2020

 

This year, Yoga in Daily Life centres around Australia are offering a day of FREE YOGA programs to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. See the schedule below.

 

The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, on 27 September 2014, He stated:

 

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day."

This proposal was unanimously adopted and the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015.

 

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of this beautiful and bountiful land, sea and sky. We pay tribute to the Elders from all nations past, present and future and we also respect the collective ancestry that has brought us all here today. It is a privilege to be present on Country and we hope that our work supports land, water, air and spirit; healing and understanding.

You can attend any or all sessions online via zoom video conferencing. By joining the online sessions you have agreed to the conditions of our waiver. Some locations you can attend in person, but as numbers are limited due to physical distancing please book in with the local centre.
