One of the most challenging but rewarding projects I have worked on at HowToLou! I go through the detailed process of constructing an outdoor brick fireplace, step-by-step from start to finish. In this video, Part 1 of 5, I will show you how I created the foundation for the fireplace. Overview of process we followed: Dig a hole to the frost line Fill that hole with a few inches of pea gravel and concrete Stack cinder blocks on top of that, making sure to keep the lines leveled. After the foundation is created, we start adding the bricks on top of the cinder blocks! Materials: -I don't remember exact cost. It was 150 concrete blocks, 1,300 house bricks, 50 firebricks, 75 bags or mortar, and 3 ceramic flu pipes. A hardware store should be able to give your a cost estimate on that stuff. Add 10% for the stuff I forgot, and you should be pretty close.
