2018 Mega-Tins: Rev It Up!
With the release of the 2018 Mega-Tins comes new support from some of the most popular strategies of all time! Yusei Fudo is known for accelerating monsters to the field so he can take Synchro Summoning to the limit. The brand-new Junk Speeder is the perfect thematic card for his Deck, so let’s check out what it can do!
Junk Speeder is a Level 5 Synchro that requires a “Synchron” Tuner along with one or more non-Tuner monsters. When it’s Synchro Summoned, you can Special Summon as many “Synchron” Tuners as possible with different levels from your Deck! You won’t be able to Special Summon monsters from your Extra Deck that aren’t Synchros for that turn, but the payoff is well worth it.
When a Synchro Summoned monster battles another monster, Junk Speeder’s second effect kicks into gear doubling its original ATK! While it only stands at 1800 normally, 3600 ATK is more than enough to clear even the most powerful monster’s ATK. However, while having this effect is a nice bonus, you’re really in it for this first effect.
Traditionally any card that can Summon three or more monsters has seen competitive success, and Junk Speeder goes way over the top Summoning up to five total! However, you don’t really need to get five to see a big payoff. The possibilities with Junk Speeder are practically endless, especially if you factor in having a bunch of tools at your disposal, but let’s take a look at what just having two cards to Summon it will net you.
To get super basic, let’s start at a Level 3 non-Tuner such as Junk Forward along with Fleur Synchron. Synchro Summon Junk Speeder and activate its effect, Special Summoning Road Synchron, Steam Synchron, Fleur Synchron, and Jet Synchron from your Deck. Send Junk Speeder along with Jet Synchron to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Stardust Charge Warrior, netting you a free draw from its effect. After that you can take a page out of Jack Atlas’s book and use Stardust Charge Warrior along with Road Synchron to Synchro Summon Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend. Activate the effect of Jet Synchron next, discarding any card from your hand, to Special Summon itself back to the field. You can end your turn here, and once your opponent enters their Main Phase 1, this is when Steam Synchron can activate its effect! Send your Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend along with Steam Synchron and Jet Synchron to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity!
As soon as it’s Summoned, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity’s effect will kick in preventing your opponent from activating cards or card effects of cards they control. Your opponent will get to play a single card if they choose hold onto their turn player priority before you can use Steam Synchron, but even then preventing them from doing just about anything else for a whole turn is huge. Not only that, but you get a 4000 ATK Synchro with even more effects to help you make sure you can end the Duel on the following turn! You even have a Fleur Synchron sticking around in case you need more materials the following turn.
If you want to dive even deeper into a two card combo, pairing A Hero Lives along with Jet Synchron can also do some crazy things. Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from A Hero Lives and Normal Summon your Jet Synchron, using both as Synchro Materials for Junk Speeder. Both Speeder and Shadow Mist will trigger, the latter grabbing Destiny HERO – Malicious while the former Special Summons Road Synchron, Steam Synchron, Fleur Synchron, and Unknown Synchron. Use the Junk Speeder along with Steam Synchron to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega, then use its effect to banish itself and free up your Extra Monster Zone while banishing a card from your opponent’s hand. Next up is discarding that Destiny HERO – Malicious with the effect of Jet Synchron so you can get it in the Graveyard, and banishing it to Special Summon a Malicious from your Deck. Synchro Summon another PSY-Framelord Omega by using Destiny HERO – Malicious and Road Synchron, and banish away that Omega to get rid of another card. Finally, banish Malicious again to get the last one from your Deck, and Synchro Summon the third Omega by using Malicious along with Fleur Synchron.
You can wait to use the effect of your last PSY-Framelord Omega until your opponent’s Main Phase, so you can make sure to take one of your opponent’s banished cards and send it to the Graveyard so they can’t get it back when one of the previous Omegas returns. Summoning Destiny HERO – Malicious that many times is so powerful that it would even make professional Duelist Aster Phoenix proud.
These are just two things you can do with Junk Speeder, but there are a ton more if you’re trying to rev it up! Get your copy in the 2018 Mega-Tin featuring Yusei Fudo, available now!
