Ropes appear in the "Underworld Connections" episode of The Legend of Zelda TV series. When Link opens a door in the Underworld to find a shard of the Triforce of Wisdom, various Ropes lunge towards him. After Link uses a Zap on a few of them with his Crissword, Princess Zelda tells him to stop, as Ganon will be able to discern their location.[5] Link, who is entangled by two Ropes, is set free by Princess Zelda when she gets out a Boomerang and uses it to defeat them,[6] allowing her and Link to proceed through the Underworld, though not before Link picks up a Bomb that was dropped by one of the Ropes.

Ropes are recurring Enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed]
Characteristics
Ropes are poisonous snakes that charge at any target posing a threat to their territory.[2][3] They are easily dispatched with most conventional weaponry like the Sword and Bow. Unlike most enemies throughout The Legend of Zelda series, Ropes have changed relatively little in attack pattern and appearance.
Some variations of Ropes do exist; Skullropes appear in A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and Tri Force Heroes, while Golden Ropes appear in The Minish Cap.
The Legend of Zelda
Ropes appear in red and flashing varieties in The Legend of Zelda. When defeated, they may drop either a Heart, one Rupee, five Rupees, or a Clock.[note 1]

Ropes appear in The Minish Cap as fast-moving green snakes, much like their appearance from Four Swords. They are common in Castor Wilds and the Wind Ruins, and appear less frequently in Caves across Hyrule.
Phantom Hourglass
A Link Between Worlds
Tri Force Heroes
Echoes of Wisdom
Ropes are set to reappear in Echoes of Wisdom, acting the same as in previous top-down The Legend of Zelda games. They have the same appearance as in the Link's Awakening Switch remake, but are colored green.
Other Appearances
The Legend of Zelda TV Series
The Legend of Zelda (Valiant Comics)
Although Ropes do not appear directly in the The Legend of Zelda comics by Valiant Comics, they are mentioned in the Day of the Triforce story. When Princess Zelda and Cassiopia arrive at the Saria Town, Cassiopia's husband comes and brings their son, Rus, telling them that he has been bitten by a Rope when he was trying to escape the Lynels that had attacked him.[7] It is explained that a Rope's bite is lethal and cannot be cured by normal healing;[8] as such, it requires a Fairy's magical powers to be properly cured.[9]
The Crystal Trap
Zelda can encounter a Rope in The Crystal Trap if she does not have the Large Brass Key necessary to open the Iron Door. Although she will try to attack it with her Bow, the Rope will swiftly attack her, leading the book to a Game Over as Zelda screams for help.[10]
BS The Legend of Zelda
Zelda's Adventure
Cadence of Hyrule
Trivia
- Aneru from The Adventure of Link are commonly mistaken for Ropes, but their behavior and appearance are notably different.
- The snake-like Whips from Spirit Tracks have the same color as Ropes from The Legend of Zelda.

Notes
- ↑ If Link defeats 10 enemies without getting hit or teleporting with the Flute, then the 10th enemy defeated will drop five Rupees. However, if the 10th enemy is defeated with a Bomb, then it will drop four Bombs. If Link defeats 16 enemies without getting hit or teleporting, then the 16th enemy will drop a Fairy. After the 16th enemy, Link must get hit and reset the counter to zero in order to achieve this effect again. Defeating Armos, Like Likes, Keese, or Gels will not be counted.[4]

Zelda turns just as a huge snake-like neck rises up from a hole in the ground. 'A rope snake!' she cries. The giant serpent slithers forward, its cold eyes flashing and its great, forked tongue whipping out between its fangs. Zelda grabs for her bow, but before she can get it, the monstrous snake throws a coil around her arms. 'Help!' she screams.
