[编辑]grutch的變體 (15世紀中期,比begrudge年輕),來自中古英語 grucchen (“喃喃自語,抱怨,怨恨,嫉妒”),來自古法語 grouchier、groucier (“喃喃自語,抱怨”),[1]起源自日耳曼語族,可能是仿譯。
與中古高地德語 grogezen (“嚎叫,哀號”)、德語 grocken (“發牢騷”)同族。對照古諾爾斯語 krytja (“喃喃自語”)、古高地德語 grunzen (“咕噥”)。
