From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
The Big Bluff Cavern (Japanese: 断崖の大空洞 Great Cliff Hollow) is a type of hideaway seen in the Grand Underground. It can only be accessed after the player obtains the Explorer Kit in Eterna City from the Underground Man, and features Pokémon that roam the cave freely, instead of being found in tall grass.
Geography
Big Bluff Cavern is a large, arid, sand and rock filled cavern, with scattered ruins. Some rocks are taller than the player, and must be navigated around.

After the player fulfills a particular objective during their adventure, another group of Pokémon are added to the pool of possible encounters. The spawn rates for certain types are influenced by the active "Statue Effect" applied by a player's Secret Base Statues.
Rare Spawns
Rare Spawns run concurrently to the existing encounter table, and use independent percentages for their rates.
