File:Logo of the Church of England.svg
[edit]I'm not sure I see any purpose in "localizing" that image -- if it was translated into another language, it wouldn't be the official logo of the Church of England any more... AnonMoos (talk) 15:09, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- The official Urdu name is "کلیسیائے انگلستان" (Kalisiya-e-Inglistaaan) but i am not sure about logo. — Bukhari (Talk!) 15:18, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
File:Status_iucn3.1_VU.svg
[edit]With respect to file File:Status_iucn3.1_VU.svg, do you mean translating the "Extinct", "Threatened", and "Least Concern" text? (I'm not sure I see much point in translating the two-letter labels.) Remember that I basically have just the one font for making graphics of this type (the one seen in File:Shield-Trinity-Urdu.svg), and my browser doesn't join Urdu-specific letters correctly, so it can be hard for me to see what's needed... AnonMoos (talk) 06:45, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- @AnonMoos, Pengo, and Reda Kerbouche: translations are:
- Least concern = کم تشویش ناک
- Threatened = خطرہ زدہ
- Extinct = معدوم
- EX = مع
- LC = کت
- EW = جم
- CR = سخ
- EN = خط
- VU = غم
- NT = قخ
- I have mentioned translations, kindly localize File:Status_iucn3.1_VU.svg in Urdu. Please use Alvi Nastaleeq fonts. — Bukhari (Talk!) 07:14, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- You may be misunderstanding what the limitations of my abilities in this area are. I don't have any workflow that would automatically convert cut-and-pasted Unicode Arabic/Urdu text into SVG shapes. I don't use Unicode-encoded fonts at all, but old 8-bit encoded Postscript fonts. I have a little scripting that allows me to avoid having to manually pick out initial, medial, and final forms for Arabic, but this doesn't apply to Urdu-specific letters. My particular technique has allowed me to make a few basic images, such as File:Turs-ul-Iman_Shi'ar-uth-Thaluth.svg, File:Shield-Trinity-Separ-Iman-Farsi.svg, File:Anti Muslim Brotherhood slogan.svg, File:Shiism arabic blue.svg, File:Houthis emblem.svg, and File:Coat of arms of Palestine.svg, but it does not allow me to quickly toss off images, and if I don't see or know the correct joining, then I can't start at all (though that doesn't seem to be a problem with the translations above). You should ask someone who uses Unicode-encoded fonts within Inkscape, who could fulfill your requests more easily and more probably to your satisfaction than I could... (You never say سلام عليكم?) That image uses highly-customized letter shapes (not any standard fonts), and would require major rejiggering if any of the words was changed. If you just want امن and שלום in standard fonts, then that would be easy... AnonMoos (talk)
- @AnonMoos: سلام علیکم used by All pakistanis (including Christians, Hindus & etc.) But in Urdu we use mainly "امن" instead of "سلام" for word Peace. So can you make same image with minor change by replacing "سلام"? — Bukhari (Talk!) 08:10, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
- BukhariSaeed -- any significant change to File:ShalomSalaamPeace.svg would require major artistic effort to re-design -- not just typesetting with standard fonts... AnonMoos (talk) 13:40, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Copyright status: File:Israel - Location Map (2012) - ISR - UNOCHA-ur.svg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Israel - Location Map (2012) - ISR - UNOCHA-ur.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
File tagging File:HussainHaqqani.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:HussainHaqqani.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:HussainHaqqani.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!
[edit]Dear Veritasphere,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.
In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.
Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India: Feedback survey
[edit]Greetings,
Many thanks for participating in the SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India. It had been quite a successful campaign—194 users from 19 Indic languages took part in the campaign for 38 days, and have created more than 2,500 SVG files, all of them having labels in native Indian languages. You may read the complete report of the campaign at https://w.wiki/3yn.
We would like to thank you again for translating SVG files as a part of this campaign, your contributions have given thousands of people the knowledge that they need the most. Now we would like to have your feedback about the overall campaign, how effective were the training sessions, the resources provided, the support etc.
Please fill the feedback survey at https://forms.gle/4TCicfYzjAGVvKTy6
Your responses are extremely valuable to us, and will be of immense help to understand further training needs or plan future activities in this area. Let us know if you have any questions.
Please note that 4 August 2019 is the last date to complete the survey. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 05:40, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
