This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.
I'm retained by Duncan for online work, primarily his website. This has not to date included any paid Wikipedia updates, however the financial relationship means that the Connected Contributor tag is insufficient.
As the bulk of this page has not been updated for a decade and is increasingly outdated, Duncan has asked me to liaise with Wiki editors to see if it can be brought up to date. We very much want to make sure we operate entirely within BLP and COI guidelines on this. There are three areas where we would like to request updates.
Could we request the removal of the 'Superleague Formula career' section? Although SLF did have a taskforce on Wikipedia during its active years, this championship is long-gone. In the 10 years since, Duncan has competed in several other championships and it's increasingly out of place in such a prominent position.
The 'Previous Series' section ends in 2009. We have no specific request on how this should be addressed, as the list current to 2021 would be very long, but it would be good to have it updated in some way that is consistent with general practice for active sportspeople. If needed, information to create a full list can be found on my sandbox as part of the career table (link follows).
The bio is current only up to 2009. I have drafted a suggested replacement which obviously needs careful review for COI issues. It can be found in the highlighted box of my sandbox page at user:Rand0m_Merryman/sandbox.
When drafting it, I have heavily cut the existing text as continuing with that level of detail would produce an excessively long piece. Where information also appears on other Wikipedia pages I have not provided separate references as I take the other content to be evidence that the information is considered reliable - this includes championship results and awards such as the Autosport Awards, where Duncan is mentioned by name on pages elsewhere on the site. Please let me know if this is not correct and I will research other citations for the information.
The existing entry contains some references to Duncan's own website, which the BLP guidelines say doesn't count as a reliable source. I wasn't quite sure what to do about that, as they have sat there unchallenged for many years - I have supplied an alternate source for one of them but, again, please say if further work is needed. I should also say that the Q&A in the 'external links' section of the existing page is from a website I own and is therefore not available to me to use as a source - though other editors might feel it is acceptable after review, as the site does appear as a source on other racing driver pages.
This stops in 2011 and it would be good to bring it up to date. I have compiled a version of the table current to this season, again on my sandbox page at user:Rand0m_Merryman/sandbox. All information in it was sourced from driverdb.com, which is linked to in the 'external links' section of the existing page. It is an extremely long table, so (as with the info box) we're open to whatever update is deemed appropriate.
As I said, it's important to us that we do this in a way consistent with Wikipedia's policies so please do say if anything about this edit request needs amendment or clarification. Many thanks. Rand0m Merryman (talk) 09:00, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that a comprehensive update to the article is desperately needed. I will review the draft to see what things can go to it. Quetstar (talk) 17:57, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done: With the exception of the infobox, which is so outdated that it needs a complete overhaul. I don't have the technical skills necessary to do so, so I will refer you to WikiProject Motorsport so that they can assist you on this. Quetstar (talk) 06:00, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've replaced the Superleague Formula with European Le Mans (this is supposed to be the current series). The previous series list should be updated to only inlcude the most major series (as an infobox it should be a summary of the major points of the article, complitmenting the lead). I want to balance the inclusion of major series without having major series in which he just did one stand in-drive. I've also chopped Le Mans Series from this, as it is the old name of European Le Mans (based on the wikilink) SSSB (talk) 12:06, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
