Serious error
[edit]As it stands, this article has a serious, basic error: the pilots, drivers and signallers were all Royal Artillery personnel (i.e. Army) whilst the adjutants, technical staff and equipment officers came from the RAF.
"By August 1942, three RAF Air OP squadrons, 651, 653 and 654, had been formed. Pilots, drivers, and signallers were Royal Artillery and squadron adjutants, technical staff and equipment officers came from the RAF. The squadrons started off with DH2 Tiger Moths, but were soon issued with the Taylorcraft Auster Mk I. The Auster had been very much a second choice, but the first batch of the preferred aircraft, the Stinson Vigilant, had arrived from the USA packed under several hundred tons of cheese, which squashed flat all but two or three. Tested against the surviving Vigilants, the Auster was found to be smaller, lighter, more manoeuvrable and generally better suited to the work of Air OP; ‘So’, as one historian commented, ‘it all ended happily’."
