photo licenses

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for the streetcar photos. Could you please add the appropriate license tag? I think GFDL-self is what you're looking for.

Thanks - Tempshill 14:42, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:DeutchBahn-ACloco.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use article name or fairuse. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much.

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yonge-Buildings.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Admrboltz (T | C) 18:29, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging

[edit]

You need to tag all your images, or reviewers less nice than myself :-) will delete them all preemptorily. I just add a "GFDL-presumed" at Image:T1-SubwayCarINSIDE.jpg, but your contribution list [1] shows a bunch more that need them, so please tag them as soon as possible. Thanks! Hey there! From reading through your page above it seems you have failed to add appropriate copyright tags onto a number of images which you have uploaded to Wikipedia. That's a real shame, since images such as Image:BC-QuadSnow.jpg, taken by yourself, would make a good contribution to the encyclopedia, and risk being deleted (indeed, some of the images listed above now have been). All you need to do is to add one of the appropriate tags from Wikipedia:Image copyright tags to the image description page. If it is an image you have created yourself, and you are happy for anyone to use it, then I would suggest PD-self or GFDL would be appropriate. Feel free to ask any questions by posting on my talk page if I can help. Thanks, UkPaolo/talk 16:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Valkenburg26.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. Image formatting

[edit]

Hello there, after leaving the last message, I proceeded to check through some of your contributions. My, it seems like you've been a busy shutter bug. However, I am coming to express a concern for the formatting of your images when you place them in an article. Since you appear to be new-ish here, let me explain:

Usually when there is only one image in a section, we place it at the start of the header, for example:

Blah Blah
When there are two or more images, please do this:
Blah Blah
It is also standard to wiki link within the images, since many people look at the images before they read the content, thus:

Also, please make sure that horizontal images are at the standard 250px while vertical images are somewhere around 220px. A period after the text in the image descriptor is also great!

Thanks so much, and keep up the great image contributions! Páll (Die pienk olifant) 09:10, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:NJT-Arrow-Pantographs.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:NJT-Arrow-Pantographs.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit]

Hi there! Well, the thing is that I don't live in the US anymore. I moved back to Moscow almost a year ago and have no regrets about it whatsoever. Here in Russia, life is so rich with events, relaxed and enjoyable, unlike in NY, which I couldn't stand (my last year there especially). I miss Boston though and all the fun I had there with international students (mostly Ukrainian). I'd like to visit it again someday. Ask whatever questions you have about Boston or NY or Wikipedia :). Happy editing! KNewman 12:49, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure you link to them from the Tramways in Saint Petersburg page once those articles are complete; maybe I could help you out as well. As you see, my article on tramway service in SPb is still a work in progress, and a lot needs to be done, so you're welcome to help out. I'll try to finish the history section soon, if I have time. - Canwolf 21:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add it to Wikiversity? Hmmmmm... I don't know. I thought there was lots of good encyclopedia-type info on your page. It seems to me the better solution is make it all read like an encyclopedia article, and then add enough links to it on other pages so that they will take off that tag. Wikipedia has a policy against including "original" materials, so it will require some work to make sure that all available citations are included in the right places. As far as Wikiversity goes, I don't know anything at all about their standards, policies and aims. Maybe you should copy the content over there and see what happens. But don't delete it from Wikipedia.

Good luck on your final.

Photos of Lomená Street

[edit]

Hi, GK tramrunner! According to your wish I've taken some fifty photos and three very short (and poor) videos of Lomená Street. The weather wasn't much favourable on the last Sunday here, mostly overcast, but better than nothing. Now I ask, what to do with those images? It's about 60 MB total, which is not very comfortable for a man with a low-speed GPRS connection like me. :-) What do you need it for? I would also need your e-mail address. Пока! --Miaow Miaow 23:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Thank you for the message. Unfortunately, I never went to New Utrecht High School. I started the article after writing one about Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, who was a student there in the 1950s. I knew that a lot of famous people had gone to the school, so I was surprised that it didn't have an article already. I grew up in West Virginia, which is very different from New York!

I hope you get to visit London one day. It's a very interesting city. I have not been to Aachen, but I have visited Berlin and Munich. I would like to visit more of central and eastern Europe -- so far I have only made one brief trip to Poland. I'm part Ukrainian myself; my great-grandmother was an ethnic Ukrainian from Przemyśl.

I did make a few of the userboxes on my page myself (the spaghetti, Aubrey-Maturin and environmentalist boxes, for example), but I'm afraid most of the stuff on there is copied from other people!

Your photographs of Brooklyn are very good. I hope you plan to contribute more to Wikipedia in future.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:HudsonLine10.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HudsonLine10.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Welcome! We are glad to see another user take park in our project. As we are still working hard after 2+ years, yet, we are glad to see more people helping us. Remember to try to engage in discussions we hold to reach a consensus, which is a form of agreement via discussion. It helps, and it is for the best for the project and us. Hello, GK tramrunner. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:RetroCompSmall.jpg) was found at the following location: User:GK tramrunner. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 08:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. An image you had previously uploaded, Image:Aachen-ElegantStreet.JPG, did not have a licensing tag. Another editor has tagged the image as GFDL-presumed. You may wish to visit the image page and provide the correct license. You can view a list of all the image licensing tags at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All. The image risks being nominated for deletion as failing to have a license. Many of these GFDL-presumed image are used on User pages. --User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 00:41, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In cleaning up the articles, most of the pictures that were on that page were moved to a Wikimedia Commons link. If possible, please move the pictures on that page that you uploaded to the Commons. They will then be included in the Wikimedia Commons link. Thanks. --AEMoreira042281 01:30, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New userboxes

[edit]

I might be wrong, I've never made one myself, but I think you're going to need to move the pages for your recently created userboxers.
From WP:UBX:

"In the user namespace, you may create a subpage of your own user page or User:UBX."

The way they are created now, they look like the userpages of editors who don't exist.
Again, maybe I'm just reading the guideline incorrectly. I just noticed them while new page patrolling and thought it looked odd. --OnoremDil 16:06, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, if you need to ask me anything that's not suitable to be asked here on my talk page (perhaps because it is not really Wikipedia-related), you are more than welcome to email me. You didn't happen to be a member of клуб электронных игр for MK-61 & 52 in the beginning of the 1990s by any chance? Editing suggestions

[edit]

Thanks for your edits to the NYC subway pages, especially bus connections. There are a few things you could do to make your edits more productive.

When linking, you need to check two things:

 1. There actually is a Wikipedia article by that name;
 2. The article is the place or thing you intended

Here are some examples:

 • Several of your edits included a link to Williamsburgh. What you actually needed was Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In the article text, you would put Williamsburg
 • Several of your edits included a link to Ocean Avenue, which is a rock album. What you actually needed was Ocean Avenue (Brooklyn). In the article text you would put Ocean Avenue.
 • Several of your edits included a link to Prospect Park. There are many Prospect Parks, so this link goes to a disambiguation page. What you actually needed was Prospect Park, Brooklyn. In the article text, you would put Prospect Park.

These are only examples. Unfortunately, there is no substitute for checking every link.

When you're finished editing, if a link is colored red, it means that Wikipedia has no article by that title. In many cases, you'll find the article under another name. One of your edits included a link to Hil Hodges Memorial Bridge. This was a misspelling for Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, but Wikipedia doesn't have that either. The correct link was to Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge.

I know it can be tedious, but these links do need to be checked. Thanks, and Happy Editing! Marc Shepherd (talk) 15:39, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

General circuit theory

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article General circuit theory, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add db-author to the top of General circuit theory. — BillC talk 23:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:ParkSlope-street.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 16:55, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Removing Speedy at Ghent Tram

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created, as you did with Ghent Tram. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

 1. Place hangon on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
 2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 15:47, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to create a sandbox page to create articles. Once you are finished, you can then copy and paste the entire article at once and avoid speedy delete tags that get placed in blank (as in my case) or short articles. Note that a speedy delete tag can be placed by anyone, but only an administrator can delete an article. I am not an administrator. --Quartermaster (talk) 15:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article is looking good. Keep up the good work! --Quartermaster (talk) 16:11, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Railway switching networks, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

This article duplicates better-written articles elsewhere.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:23rdStreetMidtown.JPG

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:23rdStreetMidtown.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. New York University affiliation

[edit]

In 1973, New York University’s School of Engineering and Science was merged into the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn to form the Polytechnic Institute of New York.[27] The 2008 affiliation between Poly and NYU re-established a formal relationship between New York University and the former Polytechnic Institute of New York after nearly 35 years of separation.[28] The Institute is now an interim entity while it aligns itself to become NYU's dedicated resource for applied sciences and engineering.[29]

On August 7, 2007, Polytechnic and New York University (NYU) announced that the two institutions were engaged in merger discussions.[30][31] In October 2007, NYU’s and Polytechnic's Boards of Trustees both approved continuation of talks on a merger of NYU and Polytechnic. Both institutions decided to continue drafting a Definitive Agreement to more fully define the relationship between the universities.[32][33]

On March 6, 2008, Polytechnic’s Board of Trustees voted to approve the "Definitive Agreement" to affiliate with New York University, with the goal that Polytechnic would become NYU's engineering, applied science, and technology school. On June 24, 2008, the New York State Regents approved an affiliation between Polytechnic and NYU by a change of charter which made NYU the sole member of the Polytechnic, effective July 1, 2008.[32][32][34]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Odessa Railway Station, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mainline and Dead end (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:PAPprotocol.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:PAPprotocol.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 13:20, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
