Chicken Egg

[edit]

Which do you think cae first the chicken or the egg? Why?

Pro-Chicken

[edit]

Pro-Egg

[edit]

I'm pro-egg because the genetic material doesn'tchange from egg to its older form. Therefore the first chicken as we know it would have come from an egg (some pre-chicken bird layed the egg with a mutation in it that later turned into the our chicken). Randfan 00:32, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How to design the box

[edit]

There are a number of box types to select from when deciding to make a userbox. The most commonly used design is the "Standard box". It has one square shaped area on the left ("id") and a rectangular area on the right ("info").

For ease of use, userboxes are made using maker-templates that have a number of parameters. Once the maker-template is saved, it is automatically transformed to HTML.

Template Parameters Meaning Value type
border-c The border colour of the userbox CSS colour value (#hex or colour name)
border-s The border size of the userbox Width in pixels
id-c The background colour of the id box CSS colour value
id-s The font size of the id box Size in PostScript points
id-fc The font colour of the id box text CSS colour value
info-c The background colour of info box CSS colour value
info-s The font size of info box Size in PostScript points
info-fc The font colour of info box CSS colour value
id This is the content of the id box Text
info This is the content of info box Text

A random story to take up space

[edit]

Again we halted, once we neared it, and the guide elucidated that this was Jump Rock. It was the only place in the entire river where one could jump from such a high height and not get seriously injured at any given time (the other was Old Bridge, but that was only one day a year and one needed to wear a bungee cord because it was so high). I soon noticed that a small trail existed between the smaller rocks arranged haphazardly across the surface of the much larger rock and that it led to the twenty plus foot high summit. This was the path we were to take to the top so we could jump off. However, if you ‘’did’’ choose to jump off, then once you set foot on the trail, there was no turning back because it was more dangerous to try going back down instead of launching your body over it into the near sub-zero waters below. It was quite daunting, I must say. Billy (a kid from another Boy Scout Troop but who visits our occasionally) immediately volunteered and before we could say “Look out below!” he had already scrambled to the top and was about to leap off. Pausing before the plunge, he yelled “Bombs away!” and he dove over the edge, hovering in midair for a moment, and then cannon-balled into the tranquil water below. Logan and Keith quickly followed and I was going to until my father convinced me otherwise. Looking back, this was probably one of my greatest regrets.

Soon after leaving Jump Rock, we once again laughed in the face of danger. A loud roaring reached our ears just before “Old Ben the Guttwister” (our only Class Five rapid and last true rapid) came into sight from around the bend.

It was then that I heard something I thought (and hoped) I would never hear from anyone, especially our captain, and it came with a grin: “Do you want to do it backwards? I’ve never tried it that way before…”!

“Sure!” we responded, “What have we got to lose؟ Our lives

Thus came the words “Right ½ back!” and we spun around. By now, the tremendous roaring filled us utterly and completely and it would have been totally fruitless to try to block it out, and with a sudden lurching feeling in or around our navels, we raced backwards through the rocks and our sure doom. We twisted and turned a myriad times and flew into the air at least thrice. Paddles hit water, air, rock, each other, us, and everything you can imagine being in this rapid and many shattered and/or were lost. People fell out of there seats into the raft or into the water (luckily in placid areas and they were carried down into calm waters with only a few bruises). All hell broke lose but fortunately we made- relatively in one piece. Then we did anther thing that startled me, we paddled back into the rapid. However, the reasoning behind it was (mostly) sound- it was to keep track of the younger scouts and to have experience “surfing”. They got out okay but we nearly drowned four of our members and flooded our the raft as we surfed (surfing, for those who do not know is when one puts a raft into a rapid where it stalls and goes neither frontward, nor backward, nor right, nor left and just sits there, slowly filling with water until everyone puts in a colossal effort into getting out of the rapid).

One more daring stunt was to be made by us as we began to conclude our memorable rafting experience. Hazel told us to paddle at “ramming speed” toward another raft and, with startled realization, I figured out what we were going to do just before we made contact. We were going to throw a party. A boarding part, that is! Our companions were enjoying being alive and victorious over the rapids as we hit them (meaning our peers, not our younger scouts) and had only just enough time to comprehend what was happening as we launched ourselves onto their raft. I grabbed some kid (probably fifteen or so) with curly black hair but was pushed off instantaneously. I toppled over the side as I grabbed for ‘’anything’’ to hold onto. I got hold of something but it broke free from what it was attached to and I plummeted into the water with a great splash. My hat fell over my eyes and I scrambled for the raft but couldn’t find it for a seemingly long tie and was thoroughly frozen to the bone as I was pulled on board. By this time we ceased our assault and were steering for shore.

As we debarked I heard a kid that looked kind of familiar complaining about losing his helmet. I quickly turned away to hide the smile that was trying to peak out from beneath it’s oppressive cover. Now, I knew what I had grabbed as I fell over the other raft and I knew that it would be a long time before anyone found it- I let it go as I swam back to our raft.

Subsequent to our “little” trip on the Lower Gully (that’s the name of all the rivers of that intensity in that area), I learned just how wet I was by peeling off the wetsuit and took a unpleasantly cold shower, and then loaded my stuff into Mr. Sicree’s car and swiftly fell asleep. I had thought our adventure over until, with a quake, our car shuddered into a reststop. This is when we learned to change a tire (well, I already knew how but we did it any way) for it had a large road nail jabbed into it. The cold of the air outside evaporated all the warmth I had gained in the car and I was chilled to the marrow for the rest of the car ride home. Needless to say, I took a nice, warm shower once we (barely) made it to my house.

As my Scout Master, Mr. Boour, always says (especially if Mr. Chadelle wasn’t on the trip he is talking about) , it was the best trip. Ever. I’m absolutely sure that when I’m crooked-backed and well beyond graying, I will be able to tell my grandchildren vividly my breath-taking adventure in the white.

freelance writer

[edit]

I apologize for editing your user page, but your Talk Page was taking forever to load because of a very large flash animation. I am a freelance writer working on an article about the wide array of people who make Wikipedia their life, their passion, their pastime. Wikipedia “addicts” if you will. I’m looking for people just willing to tell their story of how they got sucked into the intellectual whirlwind that is Wikipedia; how you got started editing, how the obsession grew, and what you spend your time focusing on these days? Do you write articles from scratch? Is your main push toward one particular type of article? Do you patrol for typos and errors, or spend your time diligently fixing vandalism? Do you take part in the “social aspects” of Wikipedia; engaging in animated discussions or decorating your user page with all sorts of internet memes? Have you ever forced yourself to take a “Wikipedia break”? If so, what’s your 20/20 hindsight on the obsession? Basically I’m just trying to get an idea of what it’s like for various Wikipedia “addicts.” I am particuarly interested in talking to you to discuss the Wikipedia Kindness project which you are apparently a part of. If you are interested in participating, please email me at brianwrites@gmail.com
