The Kansas City Royals could be considered something of a good luck charm for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Consider, the Chiefs were 1-5 when they played the Pittsburgh Steelers back on Oct. 26. The Royals stopped by the game to show off their ALCS trophy, which they had won three days earlier.

The Chiefs went on to beat the Steelers and have not lost since. They are on a 10-game winning streak heading into their wild-card game at the Houston Texans on Saturday.

And the Royals? They won the World Series. Royals outfielder Alex Gordon said the whole town is excited about winning a pair of titles.

"I can't wait for Saturday,” Gordon said. “It's been a special year for us and now to see what they're doing, I can't really put into words what that means for Kansas City. You saw what the fans did for us as far as a celebration, and I feel like it'd probably be even better with the Chiefs."

It's the first time the Royals and Chiefs have made the playoffs in the same year. The Chiefs will begin the playoffs in the same city where the Royals nearly saw their season end. The Royals faced elimination, trailing the Houston Astros 6-2, in the eighth inning of Game 4. They came back and, eventually, beat the New York Mets to win their first World Series in 30 years.

The Chiefs won their final 10 games of the regular season after the Royals clinched the ALCS on Oct. 23. Now the Chiefs also start their playoff run in Houston, which happens to be the site of their most-recent playoff win, over the Oilers in 1993. A victory would end the Chiefs’ eight-game playoff losing streak, which is tied for the longest in NFL history.

“It’s the talk of the town right now,” Gordon said. “To do what they've done this year has been pretty amazing -- to go from losing five games straight and then turning it around and probably being the best team in the NFL right now, just winning 10 games in a row and playing great and taking that momentum into the playoffs.

“It's very exciting, and it's been pretty special to watch."
