アンドルー・ラング(Andrew Lang、1844年3月31日 - 1912年7月20日)はイギリスの詩人、小説家、評論家、民俗学者。民話と妖精物語の収集家としても知られる。セント・アンドルーズ大学には彼の名を冠したアンドルー・ラング講座がある。

略伝

スコットランドのセルカーク(Selkirk)で生まれる。ロレット校(Loretto School)、エディンバラ・アカデミー(Edinburgh Academy)、セント・アンドルーズ大学をへてベリオール・カレッジで教育を受ける。1868年に卒業後、オクスフォードのマートン・カレッジのフェローとなる[1]

詩は主としてフランスのバラードなどの古詩を学び、"Helen of Troy"(1882年)その他の著書がある。民俗学では"Myth, Ritual, and Religion"(1887年)、歴史的研究にはスコットランドに関するものが多い。またギリシア語学者としてテオクリトスの英訳を完成し、他にホメロスの『イリアス』『オデュッセイアー』を英訳し古典に数えられる。小説・童話・随筆をあわせると60余種となり、その趣味は神話・伝説・心霊学にわたり、1911年から心霊現象研究協会の理事を務めている。『ロングマン叢書 Longman's Magazine』の編輯に携わっていたこともあり、多能の学者として世界中に愛読者がいた[注釈 1]
