G3X AUTOPILOT

Do you want to add Garmin's autopilot?

Developed specifically for experimental aircraft, the Garmin autopilot for G3X features advanced features like flight director, coupled approaches and auto-trim. All it takes is the addition of an affordable GSA 28 "smart" servo units to give your G3X a range of autopilot capabilities similar to those provided by Garmin's top-end flight control technology.

How many servos do you want?

You have the option of purchasing 1, 2 or 3 servos, to add the level of capability you want. Even better, the Garmin servo provides a built-in interface to drive a customer supplied trim servo at no extra cost. When the autopilot is off, the servo provides speed scheduling for the manual trim commands. When the autopilot is on, the servo adjusts to constantly keep the aircraft trimmed. It also features a gear train with engagement clutch and the ability to back drive the brushless DC motor, providing multiple levels of safety without the use of a shear pin. Plus, servo software updates are done over the CAN bus using the G3X SD card, eliminating the need to send the servo back to the manufacturer for updates.

Do you want an Autopilot Control Panel?

The optional GMC 305 or GMC 507 is a dedicated interface unit that provides advanced autopilot modes like indicated airspeed hold, independent flight director, and third axis yaw damper (when installed with appropriate servos). An integrated control wheel makes for easier pitch, vertical speed and airspeed adjustments. Plus, for added safety, the panel's advanced LVL mode button commands the autopilot to help restore your aircraft to straight-and-level flight. The GMC 305 and GMC 507 also provide redundant control of the G3X autopilot for LVL mode, pitch/roll hold modes, altitude hold mode and control wheel steering (CWS).

Garmin's GMC 305 can be ordered with or without control for the third axis yaw damper (when installed with appropriate servos). The GMC 507 only comes in one version that includes the button for YD control.

Expanding upon the popular GMC 305, the new GMC 507 autopilot control panel gives pilots additional features most-requested by customers. The addition of heading and altitude select knobs combines all of the autopilot controls into one efficient control panel to reduce pilot workload.

The angle of attack probe is available with unheated pitot, with pilot-controllable heated pitot, or with automatic temperature regulating pitot that helps protect against inflight icing, helps save power and maintains a lower surface temperature when operating in stagnant air.

Designed to fit within the equipment budget and operating requirements of most experimental/amateur-built and light sport (LSA) aircraft owners, the GPS 20A provides a simple, self-contained WAAS position source that works with most 1090 ES transponders to meet the latest FAA rules for ADS-B Out compliance. Garmin also offers the GTX 45R w/GPS which utilizes its built-in WAAS GPS for ADS-B position source information.

The GTX 345 and GTX 45R transponders include a dual-link ADS-B 'In' receiver, so it "hears" both frequencies (978 MHz and 1090 MHz) authorized for ADS-B operations in the U.S. Not only does this provide the most complete traffic picture from aircraft transmitting on either frequency, but it also enhances your aircraft's ability to access ADS-B ground station transmissions and services from virtually anywhere. In addition to traffic, the GTX 345 and GTX 45R also make available subscription-free weather that can be overlaid on your flight display.
