Today we’d like to introduce you to Haiden Henderson.
Hi Haiden, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up constantly searching for ways to get attention from people, picking up hobbies and dropping them when I was bored. Music wasn’t really any different and I taught myself to play the guitar in middle school before promptly trading it in for a failed attempt at getting popular haha. It wasn’t till my first year of college that I had the desire to pick it back up. At the time, I was living in my car so I essentially taped the thing to my side and played any chance I got. With the money I saved in that year, I moved to LA and started school at USC. Side note: at this point, I was studying to be an Aerospace Engineer and staring down the barrel of an internship at Spacex. In my head however, I couldn’t wait for classes to end so that I could race home and lock myself in my room with a guitar. After a few months of this routine, I re-developed a hand condition that I had surgery for as a kid called ‘stenosing tenosynovitis.’ Also known as “chronic trigger finger,” it basically means that the tendons in my hands were swollen from overuse and I physically wasn’t able to open them without severe pain. My doctor told me I had to stop playing guitar… which SUCKED! The void that I felt in no longer being able to play guitar was nauseating and I began to write songs to fill it. Fast forward and I just graduated college last month, still writing songs and now releasing them as an artist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the road has been meandering to say the least. Even explaining my journey to people is daunting because there’s so many irregularities throughout. Honestly, those irregularities are my favorite parts of the story now though. Me living in my car, my hand condition, the career path I thought I was going to take… They all add to the way I view music and give me a perspective that I’m just now starting to appreciate.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At heart, I’m a pop lover and am always looking for infectious melodies but I think what makes me a little bit different than other artists, is the amount of effort I put into my storytelling. As of right now, I love writing songs that use specific stories as a vehicle for emotion. I hate the idea of compromising for the sake of commercial digestion and believe that you don’t need to dilute the lyrics to make room for melody. I also find that by telling these kinds of stories, I’m weaving my personality into the DNA of even my biggest songs so that fans get to know me better with each listen.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Just hit me up! I typically write alone for my own stuff or bring in a close friend to help me bring it across the finish line but I’m always open to collaborating and trying new things.
